Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

I'm still expecting this film to be more entertaining than FF and I look forward to participating in this thread after it opens. :lol
Strangely, based on the tone of the FF trailer, I'm thinking that guy may be capable of doing a Terminator movie that would be worth seeing.

I don't want Michael Caine in it. I don't want preachy dialogue. I don't want Hans Zimmer music. I don't want bland, sterile designs.

A Ridley Scott Terminator film, there'd be a cool symmetry to that in a way what with Cameron having done an Alien film.

Actually, assuming nothing more from Cameron on the Terminator front, I'd be interested in seeing Nolan do one. Much as I've jumped on the anti-Nolan bandwagon of late because I hate the direction he pushed Man of Steel, I think he could do a decent Terminator.

To be fair, Nolan didn't want the necksnapping ending. That was all Snyder and Goyer. His entire contribution was a story outline, that was about it. Goyer's the one you should really blame.

To all the people complaining about Nolan: after seeing Interstellar recently and rewatching The Dark Knight, I've had to revise my opinion of him. I used to be quite negative about the man (probably because 'hurr not muh batman durr'), but as mainstream Hollywood films have become more and more bloated, excessive, CG-heavy, plotless, witless extended videogame cutscenes, I have to give respect to a man who at least tries to tackle big ideas and meaningful themes in his films, with a relentless devotion to practical effects (all the spaceships in Interstellar were models on six-axis gimbals filmed against 4k rear-projected star fields, they only used CGI for the black hole) and the ability to lock a camera down for the duration of a scene, who can still use locations, sets, props, lighting and other real, existing things to create scenes that look like moving works of art tonally and compositionally.

Honestly, thank god for Christopher Nolan. Even if his films aren't perfect, there's still the beating heart of an artist behind them.

But he can't shoot a good Batman fight scene to save his life. :lol

Ice sword fight in BB that only cool fight.

I thought the fights in Dark Knight were good. Tight, claustrophobic and brief - not overly-choreographed impossible displays of balletic precision like we get in most modern films.

Dark Knight Rises is where it really fell apart for me on that level. The fight scenes in that are just a terrible, atrocious mess.

Honestly I think some of the best Batman fight scenes ever came from the animated adaptation of Dark Knight Returns. They were really bloody and visceral, almost like watching a boxing match or street fight. Makes me dread whatever Snyder's cooking up for Batman Vs Superman, especially after having seen Man Of Steel.

I agree with that. Bat's would take out an opponent as quick as possible. Power blows and elbows to faces. No flashy kung fu required.

So you're saying he fought like a younger man, nothing held back?

I hear Snyder is changing Batman's origin, now the Gotham Hills Arena killed his parents :monkey3

If Marvel really wanted to rub some salt in the wound of people disliking MoS Superman's predilection for property damage, they should announce a Damage Control movie.

Remember in Dragonball Z when Goku would lure his enemies out to a desert somewhere to ensure bystanders didn't get hurt? Goku was able to think of that, and as much as I love the character he's got the mental capacity of a pebble.

What's Necksnapper's excuse?

Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

It's in the script. Also in the comics. Also in the cartoons. Reeve also fights the 3 villains in the crowded streets of Metropolis in Superman II.

Superman just doesn't give a bother.

Well, how do you lure the world engine? When their goal was to destroy the planet, not to mention there were a bunch of Kryptonians, with space ships too, so even if Superman can lure a few of them away from the city, you still have all the other ones and the world engine. Also, there's this...

It was Superman's first day...and it wasn't a bank robbery, it was a global invasion by powerful beings. He had never even used his powers in a fight or any other of his abilities ...in combat :lol As far the killing goes, he kills in SP2 and in the comics...even all the Marvel guys kill, including their boy scout Capt America. Also, Goku is the most unreliable hero ever. He's never around when you need him, and his friends always have to get hurt or killed while they wait for him to show up, and in the end, he still needs their help, and somehow he still gets all the credit. Also by the time Goku finally shows up to "save the day", the enemies have been lured away from the city already. Not to mention, DBZ villains seem to have some sort of honor code and they just want to fight and prove their skills or something in a fair fight. Come on, Goku is not dumb, he's just immature.:monkey3

Reeve Superman also wipes Lois's memory with a kiss (after ****ing her) and got revenge on a bully by throwing him into a pinball machine (which knocked him out and gave him a concussion).

But apparently MoS Superman stealing some clothes from the trunk of a car (when he's half naked with torn pants out in the cold) and destroying a bully's truck (rather than breaking his bones) is much worse. :lol
