Because of the new actors and Arnie's age and most events taking place in the future, I personally see this movie as a stand alone story and not part of the lore, when I watch it I just take it at face value and it's enjoyable, not anything special but a nice escape forma few hours. I'll also take Jai Courtney over whiney Nick
Stahl.

I enjoyed AOU more on the second viewing at home. I suspect this will be true with Genisys as well.

Why does everyone hate this?

They made it really confusing. They tied a bunch of knots in the timelines and left everything for future sequels to sort out. Now the future of those sequels is in doubt...only one man can stop them!

Oh wait, they killed him. :slap

I want to apologize for previous comments made in this thread. As a casual fan of Terminator movies I clearly have no right to like this movie. I apologize for liking this film and actually commenting that I actually liked it. I see I was out of line in expressing a personal opinion that was not intended to insult anyone. Posting that I like it and not arguing with anyone is clearly viewed as wrong by many. This type of behavior will not happen again as I see I will comment with "no comment" in movie and tv threads where appropriate.

I liked it too. Who gives a **** what anyone else thinks. You shouldn't apologize for something you like, especially to strangers.

Don't do this. Everyone has a right to have an opinion. However, you've got to be prepared to back them up. Ryan Pliskin asked what it was you liked about the movie. That's your opportunity to talk about where the movie went right, what you think it did well, what it added to the story. It's not going to make anyone agree with you necessarily, but it will let them know where you're coming from when you make your case and it might get them to think about something you mention and take a look at it again. It's not arguing, it's having a discussion. You don't even need to have someone ask you for your opinion on a message board, you can just throw it out there. :)
Arguing is what happens when facts are involved. If I say a mile is 5,280 feet and you say it isn't, that's when it's a problem. But opinions? No one is right or wrong with those, it's what you think or feel. So who cares what someone else thinks?

This movie wasn't all terrible, the future war stuff was cool and it was interesting to see the alternate 1984 with the T-1000. Then it fell off the rails when it tried to tell its own story and got confusing.

So again, what did you like about the movie? What should someone else look at that you thought was good? Talk about it, don't "quit the internets". :wink1:

The movie stands weak for overall story, production and contribution to the franchise, but I find, if you can shut your mind off and ignore all the time travel details and plotholes and just watch it as a mindless action movie, it's got some real entertainment value. It's when you focus on the fine details that it unravels.

I didn't think it was as bad as some have said. It's no where near the quality of T1 and T2 but had some decent moments. Of course, Jai Courtney sucked, John Connor sucked, and erasing the other movies sucked, but maybe my expectations were so low going in that there was no way I'd be completely disappointed. I think I'll need repeat viewings to really get a solid opinion and see how the good parts hold up after awhile. I hope they continue making Terminator movies though. I'll take new mediocre Terminator films over zero Terminator films any day.

I will say this, Arnold is pretty much what made this movie likable for me. Emilia Clarke was fine, Jason Clark and Jai Courtney aren't bad but aren't anything special either.

I like Salvation and the big reasons are Bale and Worthington, I thought Bale was really good and Marcus Was an enjoyable new character. I think Genisys really shows though, if you try to carry on without Arnie you'd need to get a really stellar cast, take Arnie out and the movie would be just good enough to sit through a full first viewing and not walking out half way through, but definitely not repeat viewings. First time I watched it, I kept wondering when Arnie would
come back into the story.

Not really. There is no fact based evidence as to why so ething is "good" or "bad". It's all subjective and opinion. The problem comes in when the players haters ball convention comes in and does nothing, but post tons of GIFs, emoticons and rips anyone who doesn't hate everything ever made in the last 10 years. I have no problem with people who dislike a film because we aren't all going to have the same taste, but when the same crowd is in every thread doing the same tired act it gets tedious.

Arnold definitely made the movie more enjoyable. It helped that he didn't have a bunch of forced humor moments like "Talk to the hand". There were a couple but not overdone. If the film wouldn't have had Arnold in it I don't think my wife would have watched it. She loves Terminator but she wants to see Endoskeletons and Arnold. She actually said, "Awwww" out loud when his hand was shaking and he said "Old." :lol

It's a challenge to justify an old looking Terminator, but Arnold can still play the character at an old age. I'd even say this peformance was overall better than T3. If anything, old age seems to help him be more emotionless and robotic.

No, it's not factual, I said that. But I imagine there's a reason that people like something beyond "I just do, ok?" This isn't 3rd grade. Talk about what you like about the movie and be prepared that not everyone is going to feel the same way. It's called having a conversation. If anyone is ripping on a movie, I have no problem with that. If they're making fun of someone for liking it, then that is a problem. There are plenty of movies that I like that I'm sure people don't, but I'm willing to talk about why I like them and admit where there's also fault. You just might get someone to take another look at something. :)

I agree in general with your points, but sometimes a movie is just a fun ride ( Jurassic World ) and I'm not going to deconstruct half the scenes and debate believability, cinematography and score selection with someone who just hates everything. I'd rather watch paint dry than argue with someone's opinion on a movie these days. I just truly don't understand those who hate everything.
