Oh well, I'm sure there's now a generation of young fans who believe this is the definitive Terminator.

Sadly, this is probably all too true. They're the same kids that love the new Star Trek and think The Wrath of Khan is "more boringer" because there aren't enough 'splosions. The same kids that love Man of Steel because they made Superman just like Batman. It's a sad state of affairs. I'm becoming more like my dad every year. Goddamn kids.

It's not just kids though. I grew up with the Reeve films and as exciting as it was watching Superman rescue cats from trees and smiling at the camera, I thought MOS was overall a better Superman film, and not because he's like Batman, because he's not, even though both have a tragic origin.

As far as TG, I doubt kinds think that a film with Jay Courtney and an old Arnold is the definitive Terminator. T2 is still as good as it was back in 91, and Arnold never looked cooler than he did in that movie. Then again, I know people who prefer T1 because they grew up with that one, and they criticize those who prefer T2...so who knows?

We'll have to agree to disagree on MOS. :)

T1 and T2 are both great, for different reasons. T1 had such a good story that every other movie in the series (except Salvation, but that's another can of worms) did a copy/variation of it. T2 had incredible effects, especially for 1991. I personally prefer the first because I love Arnold as the bad guy. He's an absolute beast in that movie and you believe, from the first frame you see him, that he could kill everyone and everything in his way. The second one is really good too, just a bit too long.

Look, everyone has their likes and dislikes. There shouldn't be any way another person's opinion should change yours unless you look at the movie again and decide for yourself that it's better or worse than you originally thought. I've had movies that I loved at one time that I can't stand now and vice versa. As long as everyone can enjoy what they like is the most important thing. If Genisys is someone's favorite film, that's great. Just as long as they don't expect me to agree with it. :p

Why is this sad? Who cares if there is a "generation" of kids who think this is the definitive Terminator? Just make sure *your* kids know what's what and don't worry about what the mindless rabble is into. :)

Luckily, I haven't had the misfortune to have any kids, but my friends do, and believe me, I'm trying to learn them good. :rotfl

I watched it for the first time tonight and really enjoyed it. Just a casual fan of the series, but I thought it was my favorite yet. I haven't watched the others in years though, so I don't quite remember all details of them.

Also, what is up with all the parents on these boards forcing opinions of movies on there kids? Been seeing these same comments in multiple threads across the movie section. Pretty messed up if you ask me saying what your kid should like and shouldn't.

Why does everyone hate this?

I didn't hate it personally, but from what I gather from all the people who did:

Unnecessary fan service, negative opinions of the acting (especially Jai Courteney), erasing of the T1 and T2 timelines, over the top action etc. The usual complaints about remakes or reboots of beloved 80's/90's action films.
