Re: Terminator: Genisys (July 1st, 2015)

That was a good movie

In fairness, I've only seen that movie once, but I remember that movie being really solid. Between that and Executive Decision, I was in mediocre action Kurt Russel movies those 15-16 months in the mid 90's.

Sequel release dates announced.

May 19, 2017 and June 29, 2018

Supposedly the rights to the franchise revert to Cameron in 2019.

And besides, he probably doesn't even care.

OR

Instead of your mind going into a dopey 9 foot blue, alien monkey, avatar thing, your mind actually goes into a Endoskeleton robot avatar!

Yeah, I saw an online interview right after Avatar where he said he's done with Terminator because too many other people have "pissed on" the series now. Even if he did come back and finally give us our future war I don't really want to see humans battling robots in a PG-13, preachy future anyway.

The only sequel I'd really want to see anyway would be one that showcases the "original timeline" that me, DiFabio and a-dev were speculating about some months back.

Arnie or the franchise? :lol

The franchise. I'll always have time for Arnie even though his best days are behind.

The 'original' John Connor who Kyle Reese inadvertently wiped from existence?

That's the only story/film that I'd want to see.

Yep! :duff

Not that I think that Cameron subscribes to that theory (I'm sure he always intended future John without Reese's dad to be the same John conceived by Reese) but I'd still like to see it anyway.

If I remember correctly:

Skynet is developed by humans independently, evolves into future war, John Connor is the son of Sarah and some other guy, he's a total badass.

First T800 and Reese go back in time, Reese impregnates Sarah, destroys original John (and shockingly succeeds in Skynet's original mission.)

New John (Edward Furlong) is born and is a bit of a ******, Skynet is now formed by humans who reverse engineered the original T800's CPU.

Future war happens again, grown up Furlong Connor reprograms another T800, sends him back.

Second T800 goes back, saves young John and prevents alternate Skynet from being formed based on the first CPU.

Now Reese isn't sent back to impregnate Sarah (since there's no war), original John and original Skynet are restored, endless loop is created where John 1 and Skynet 1 are destroyed by John 2 and Skynet 2 only to have Skynet 2 destroyed so that the loop can begin again.

I thought a cool idea for a "Terminator 3" would be somehow, some way, a human (possibly original John) figures out that they are in this endless loop where no future for the human race is ever enjoyed, and tries to enter the circle with that knowledge so that they can defeat the machines AND have everyone live past the war. It would be a real brain teaser though because anyone who acts on any knowledge of "the loop" would undo that knowledge that allowed them to overcome it if they used that info to undo the loop that inspired them to act in the first place.

Let's write a script and try to sell it.

I thought we had decided that Original John is gone forever. That the new Connor (fathered by Reese) has to still send Kyle Reese back in time to 1984, so that he will be born but it will now always be him and not the John Connor who was fathered by some entirely different guy.

Essentially the paragraph I've put in bold. I don't remember us coming around to that conclusion but I suppose it makes sense.
