Between the bad box and the bad styro, this kills some of the resale..

The more posts I read on this forum, the more I keep seeing this sentiment. Is this really the mindset of a majority of collectors - the ultimate resale value of pieces? :dunno

I feel bad that you got multiple defective pieces and had to wait so long for a 3rd replacement, that certainly sucks. Wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Damn, you're one picky collector, brother! I mean, it's not like you had to send it back 10 times, or anything. Sheesh. Kidding! :lol :wink1:

:lol:lol:lol

Not for me directly. I own about 40 Sideshow pieces and have never flipped a single one. However, I do like to know if I ever had a family emergency that I could sell something if I had no other choice. Said box and styro eliminates this piece as one of those options if something crazy ever happened in my life. I buy these collectibles for my personal enjoyment.

Not always, but you never know when you'll be ready to let a piece go to make room and $$$ for an incoming grail. :)

Makes sense.:clap

Gotcha. Though I do find it odd that the value of a piece would go down due to styrofoam damage and box damage. In the end it's the piece that will be displayed (I'd imagine) not the box/styrofoam, isn't the condition of the piece the end all, be all of resale value? :dunno

I would think so but in my short lived career as a collector, I have seen comments here and there on these forums and others, poeple wanting their 4c boxes to be mint. I personally don't care, but others do. I don't quite get it, but it's there nonetheless. I know a guy who owns a Hellboy statue and 2 different times he sold and bought another of the same piece, trying to get every component as mint as he could. Beats me!

I agree. But a giant chunky hole in the stryofoam is a completely different matter.

Just no pleasing some customers?
This is my THIRD replacement. First one had flickering lights and a broken shield, second had bad paint and a broken shield, third one took FOUR MONTHS for another replacement.
Sideshow emails us saying the boxes are damaged from them inspecting them and offer us 10% back or we can cancel our orders, getting a new minty box was not an option. Between the bad box and the bad styro, this kills some of the resale. Add in 2 half hour trips to the ups store to send them back and I think I have every right to be frustrated, so your quip was not needed.

Calm down now, this is the internet and just like you feel you have the right to say what you said. I feel just the same to say what I said. You don't have to like it, but it is what I said...deal with it.

Wow that's OCD even for me! :lol

Yep you have your rights, but I'm still justified in being aggravated.

I'd say if they had to cut a hole in the styro to get it to you in one piece. I'd be happy with that method of shipping. I would probably put something over the shield to protect it from rubbing off the paint. Other than that as long as it got to me in one piece. I'd be a happy camper.

Just received this email from Sideshow today. Why don't I get a warm fuzzy feeling from this?

Thank you for your patience while you await the fulfillment of your Thanos order. We wanted to share with you updated information about your item prior to its shipment.

Some of our customers reported that for a portion of the statues received the shield section was loose or detached. Therefore, our in-house production and design staff have carefully inspected every remaining Thanos item prior to shipment. Our artists repaired any loose fitting shields and replaced any shields that may have been unattached. They also inspected the overall figures prior to re-boxing to make sure there were no other factory flaws.

However during this process, some packing materials, shipping boxes and colored graphic boxes have received handling wear and tear and should not be expected to be in mint condition. As such we would like to offer a 10% discount on your order to compensate for any distressed packaging. Even with this discount, you will continue receive full Reward Point earnings on your order.

Many of the Thanos collectors have let us know that they would rather receive the piece with slight box issues than not at all. However, we understand if this inconvenience affects your decision to maintain your Thanos order with us. If you would prefer to cancel your order, please contact our customer service department by Tuesday, the 10th of May. If we do not hear from you we will assume that you are satisfied with this offer and your order will process on May 11th as scheduled.

We appreciate your business and look forward to assisting you!

thanks to funny, are loose and detached is now the new words for smashed to hell :dunno

I don't regret cancelling this in the least :exactly:

you'll always regret it. it's a great piece, but yeah it would suck to deal with all the BS of the loose and detached (smashed to hell) shields.

i lucked out and got a good one the first try and never regretted it.:lecture

Shipped my second ex today. Hope the shield is not damage.....

If you go a few pages back and take a peek at the pics of mine I received yesterday, you will see how they handled the issue. Most likely yours will arrive just fine, just be prepared for the big hole in the styrofoam.

I have to say, I got this piece for less than $120 with a broken shield at the Seattle Comicon. Even with the cracked shield this is one of my favorite pieces.

My wife glued it back together and repainted the shield so you can't really tell it was ever damaged. I know that this dio probably won't make huge leaps in value, but I really feel that it is a masterpiece.

If you have the chance to get a cheap one on the secondary market, I would not hesitate.
