I like to think/hope most men of that age will identify with "******" Garfield when it comes to something like sneaking into their girlfriend's room late at night and being quiet so they don't alert the angry Dennis Leary father figure and get yelled at. As opposed to making **** eyes at your neighbor while she takes out the trash but never making a move.

That, and at least Garfield can change the tone of his voice. Listening to Maguire speak is like being in a 4 hour college seminar listening to Al Gore ramble on. Zzzz

THIS. I felt he wasn't a convincing Peter Parker and everytime he talked thru the mask was just....

And i think this Spidey is much more modern take to it, reflecting society how it is now. To me it more relatable for Spidey to sneak in, its just how times are now. Granted I'm a huge fan of Bendis's Ultimate Spiderman it just makes sense.

LOLOLOL One of your best posts! :lol

Reasons like this are why I like Garfield better than Maguire!

uh....whut? That's one of the bigger glaring issues with Garfield, is that he's so monotone, he sounds a LOT like Hayden Christensen. :lol

Its hard to compare the two both from different eras magiure was more old school Garfield is more modern.

Garfield also puts on a nice New York accent as Spidey.Love the way he saids “You’re my eyes and ears out here” in the time square stand off.

At least when this version of Peter runs out of web fluid, it isn't all a big metaphor for his sexual shortcomings and uncertainty if he should even be Spiderman. The whole unable to get it up plot really weakened SM2 for me combined with a Peter so completely inept he can't ride a bike down a street or ever, ever have sex. Ever. "I'm Spidervirgin no more!" I identify more with a guy that actually has fun being Spiderman and ya know, likes women.

Lol I never thought of it like that. It's like he just got sick of looking at **** and wanted a real woman.

I could never see Tobey as Peter Parker, not even after 3 movies.

But, Tobey had the suit, a great Doc Ock, and JJJ. Garfield is getting a great suit update, but there still seems to be no sign of JJJ and none of the villains shown so far give me the Spidey feel.

Yeah, I agree to an extent. Tobey didn't 'sell' Parker for me, but in the suit - & his silly voice, it worked in that context. Raimi's classic approach with a lot of things obviously contributed to his films feeling more in keeping with Spidey traditon (JJJ being the big one as you mentioned) - but yeah, I dig Garfield as Parker.

It's just a shame we got a Mario Bros inspired lizard guy, & now we're getting dinobot Giamatti, coupled with Magic Wand-a, & wtf Harry. :lol

The key is getting the essence right. And there are different comic Spideys you could channel. Toby seemed, to me, to be the Stan Lee/Ditko Spider-Man, which makes sense considering that Raimi was a classic Spidey fan. And I thought he did a fine job, but I can appreciate that not a lot of fans nowadays are familiar with that version of Spidey, and would prefer to see something more like the cartoons, or stuff from the '80s and '90s, where he became less of a nerd. Even when Romita started drawing him, he looked more attractive and traditional, but that was nearly 50 issues in. As for how he physically looked, I'm not sure of another well known actor who could look much more like the early Ditko Parker off-hand. Maybe Kirk Cameron?

Kirk Cameron - circa late 80s? Maybe trim a little off the back of that wild mullet for starters. :lol

Anton Yelchin would've been just about the perfect Ditko Parker, 5 or so years ago.
