Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Apparently the Raimi films were lacking a lame suit and bigger doofus playing Parker. Finally that's been remedied! :yess: :clap

Raimi is SO overrated as a film director. His movies are always corny and lack any visual flair. In fact the ONLY cool visuals in his Spiderman movies are the CGI that he probably barely directed.

Webb seems to have a much better filmmaker's eye.

I'll give you that he can be corny and campy, but lacking visual flair is one criticism I would never imagine being levelled at Sam Raimi.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

I know the webshooters are in some comics. But why?

To create webbing.

What is the point of getting bit by a spider? What powers does he gain?

He gains Spider-sense, agility, the knowledge of the compound of spiderwebbing (but he lacked spinnerets to do it) which is why he relies on his science background to create a contraption to mimic the actions of spinnerets.

Does he need suction cup gloves to climb walls?

No, in the comics, Peter gains the ability to stick to things using the same basic principles of a spider but nothing was really explained past that. In the Raimi films they use the idea of the small "talons" that extend in his hands and his toes, although how they work when he is clothed was pretty much ignored.

Does he need contacts to not need glasses?

His vision as well as his loss of a few quirks like asthma were detailed to the chemical change that occurred basically rebuilding him. Raimi kept that idea for the most part.

That wasn't in any comics before those films came out?

No, organic webshooters didn't appear until 2007 and were detailed as a further mutation of what occurred to him originally.

I agree, MJ could've been hotter, but other then that, no complaints from me on the first 2. People are already proclaiming this to be the better film before even seeing it :cuckoo:

I complained about Tobey Maguire all the time, as did many the thing is that he also has his share of fans. For me Peter's transformation from nerd to "jock" was so severe in the books, his classmates refer to him as being night and day with it. Tobey never had that, he was the same dorky Peter Parker just sans glasses. Garfield doesn't seem to be channeling that either but the time with nerd was so short, I'll accept it as the post transformation Parker is closer to what I expected.

The removal of Peter as a science nerd was criminal as it's a huge part of his appeal, that he is naturally that intelligent. It's like removing the detective portion from Batman (*cough cough Nolan). The built webshooters glorify that, making him able to replicate a natural compound artificially. In the books it's also one of the reasons he has to work because the stuff to make it is expensive. Organic webshooters remove that element.

I like the portrayal of Spider-Man at least what we've seen far better than anything Tobey has given in three films. This IS Spidey, wise cracking, moving quickly, having to keep himself in check. That is definitely early Spider-Man. I thought Tobey's Spider-Man portrayal was rather plain outside of the special effects which in both films were awesome.

I won't get into the Kirsten Dunst stuff which was ploy at the time to capitalize on her success in female movies and draw that crowd not that she was good or even looked or acted the part.

Doc Ock was a fantastically played and written villain, so far Curt Conners looks to follow in that vein.

If the film is horrible I'll be the first to admit it but looking back at the original Raimi trailer and then this one, I have to agree that I like it better than what I've seen and the potential is far greater so far.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Lizard reminds me of the Goombas from Super Mario. I'm sure it will be a good movie, but the trailer doesn't give me goosebumps like Avengers and TDKR, and I'm not sold on the Spidey suit.

A goomba? Really? They had little heads and huge trenchcoats with no tail. Plus they were brown.

TDKR trailer? You mean the one with the batwing that looks like a lobster?

You may not be sold on the Spiderman suit, but its far superior to "Mini" Bane, Batman, and Catwomans :lol Now the Batman Begins suit? That was Badass.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Thanks for the info. I am not a hardcore Spidey fan. Perhaps if I was a bigger fan of the character, I'd be as excited as some of you. But as an average movie goer, I loved the Raimi movies and hate to see them go. I never realized the organic webshooting was such a new thing. I still like that idea but whatever. This is more faithful to the comics so why would that be a bad thing?

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

Watch them go the Nolan route: Fresh villain in the reboot (The Lizard,) before pairing up Doc Ock and Green Goblin in the sequel. I really hope we see some new villains before Webb goes back and redoes Raimi's.

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

New trailer was far better then I would have expected... Avengers and Dark Knight Rises are still higher on my most see list though...

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

I'm sure I'll end up seeing TASM but I just don't see it beating out Avengers and TDKR. It will give Ghost Rider a run for its money for third though. :)

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man

TDKR:
"Mini" Bane

AMZ:
Lizard

There's no competition in the villian department.

PLUS, I can understand everything Spiderman and The Lizard will say. Bane and Batman? I'll laugh at their ridiculous voices even if there's a slight chance they can be understood.

Nolan still can't make a decent 1 on 1 fight scene in the first place.

Let me know when they make a Batman who can actually do some impressive fighting, cuz "elbow/neck chop man" isn't cutting it anymore. Give me The Batman from The Comics/Arkham City.

Heck I couldn't even understand *Gordon* in that first teaser where he's lying in the hospital. **coughgrumblemumblecoughbatmancoughmumblestillneedmumble**

Audience: "Huh? Hey buildings collapse, cool!"
