Re: The Amazing Spider-Man
I know the webshooters are in some comics. But why?
To create webbing.
What is the point of getting bit by a spider? What powers does he gain?
He gains Spider-sense, agility, the knowledge of the compound of spiderwebbing (but he lacked spinnerets to do it) which is why he relies on his science background to create a contraption to mimic the actions of spinnerets.
Does he need suction cup gloves to climb walls?
No, in the comics, Peter gains the ability to stick to things using the same basic principles of a spider but nothing was really explained past that. In the Raimi films they use the idea of the small "talons" that extend in his hands and his toes, although how they work when he is clothed was pretty much ignored.
Does he need contacts to not need glasses?
His vision as well as his loss of a few quirks like asthma were detailed to the chemical change that occurred basically rebuilding him. Raimi kept that idea for the most part.
That wasn't in any comics before those films came out?
No, organic webshooters didn't appear until 2007 and were detailed as a further mutation of what occurred to him originally.
I agree, MJ could've been hotter, but other then that, no complaints from me on the first 2. People are already proclaiming this to be the better film before even seeing it
I complained about Tobey Maguire all the time, as did many the thing is that he also has his share of fans. For me Peter's transformation from nerd to "jock" was so severe in the books, his classmates refer to him as being night and day with it. Tobey never had that, he was the same dorky Peter Parker just sans glasses. Garfield doesn't seem to be channeling that either but the time with nerd was so short, I'll accept it as the post transformation Parker is closer to what I expected.
The removal of Peter as a science nerd was criminal as it's a huge part of his appeal, that he is naturally that intelligent. It's like removing the detective portion from Batman (*cough cough Nolan). The built webshooters glorify that, making him able to replicate a natural compound artificially. In the books it's also one of the reasons he has to work because the stuff to make it is expensive. Organic webshooters remove that element.
I like the portrayal of Spider-Man at least what we've seen far better than anything Tobey has given in three films. This IS Spidey, wise cracking, moving quickly, having to keep himself in check. That is definitely early Spider-Man. I thought Tobey's Spider-Man portrayal was rather plain outside of the special effects which in both films were awesome.
I won't get into the Kirsten Dunst stuff which was ploy at the time to capitalize on her success in female movies and draw that crowd not that she was good or even looked or acted the part.
Doc Ock was a fantastically played and written villain, so far Curt Conners looks to follow in that vein.
If the film is horrible I'll be the first to admit it but looking back at the original Raimi trailer and then this one, I have to agree that I like it better than what I've seen and the potential is far greater so far.
