Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Apparently Mary Jane is not in the movie and might never have been in it to begin with...

Maybe focusing on just the one love interest will make her eventual demise more poignant in the next film (assuming they actually give us the Gwen/Goblin storyline this time)?

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

I have a feeling that this film will be like the Batman reboot where they establish the character before establishing the arch-rival. I fully expect Green Goblin to appear in the sequel.

That's my feeling as well. Also, great sig! Minka Kelly is... :drool

What were we talking about again?

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

I have a good feeling about the movie, but I really don't want another origin story, and I really don't feel like we need a flashback to Uncle Ben's death. I'm all for other Uncle Ben flashbacks though.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

The first Spider-Man is a classic. And IMO one of the best superhero films.

Do not get the hate.

John Slattery and Sam Elliott in Consideration to Play J. Jonah Jameson in Upcoming SPIDER-MAN Reboot

With big news regarding The Hobbit, the Avatar sequels, and Christopher Nolan’s now titled Batman film today, it’s only fair that there’s a bit of Spider-Man news as well. Director Marc Webb is currently busy rounding out the cast for his 3D reboot of the Spider-Man franchise, set to start filming in December. With Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) and Emma Stone (Easy A) set to play Peter Parker and Gwen Stacey, and the recent news that Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill) has been chosen for The Lizard, the producers are now turning towards casting Daily Bugle Editor-in-Chief J. Jonah Jameson. Among the names being considered for the part (previously played by J.K. Simmons in the Sam Raimi films) are John Slattery (Mad Men) and Sam Elliott (The Big Lebowski).

What’s Playing reports that a dozen or so actors are under consideration, being brought into the studio under the guise that they’re reading for an “Untitled Teen Action Adventure Movie”. The 3D film is set to hit theaters July 30, 2012. Hit the jump for a bit more, including what we know so far about the secretive project.

Personally, I think John Slattery would be a fine choice for Jameson. He nails zinger after zinger on Mad Men and seems like he’d be ripe to tackle the stubborn and pompous head of the Daily Bugle. Nevertheless, whoever takes the character on is going to have some major shoes to fill. Simmons was damn near perfect in the previous three films, and it’s gonna be tough for the new actor to put his own stamp on the character with Simmons’ iteration so securely engrained in the fans’ minds.

Understandably, Sony’s being rather tight on information regarding the project, but that doesn’t mean we’re devoid of information. We know that Mary Jane will not be the love interest for Peter Parker, and the story is rumored to be set around the high school or college years of the web-slinger’s life. The budget is reported to be around $80 million and the James Vanderbilt (Zodiac)-scripted film will be shot in 3D with the help of James Cameron and Avatar producer Jon Landau.

Sam Elliott has already said he hasn't personally heard his name up for contention but if this is true then it proves that Marvel Studios and their counterparts at Marvel Films which handles all of the outsourced characters are a bunch of in-breeding ____s. Seriously? You are casting J.J. Jameson and so you think of Thunderbolt Ross and Howard Stark as possibilities? Why the ____ do all Marvel actors have to be previously other Marvel characters? Is there an actor shortage or some ____? /rant.

Zooey Deschanel To Play Betty Brant In Spider-Man?

Apparently, Marc Webb has big plans for J. Jonah Jameson's secretary at The Daily Bugle and wants to reteam with (500) Days of Summerstar Zooey Deschanel in the role...The character (played by Elizabeth Banks) didnt really have too much screentime in the last three movies, but according to Showbiz Spy, a "movie insider" has told them that she'll have a much larger role and that Marc Webb already has an actress in mind for who should play her!

"Betty was a minor character in the previous Spidey movies but Marc has big plans for her. He wants a strong performer to carry the role and Zooey fits the bill perfectly. The role is hers if she wants it."

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Considering Betty's tie to Peter, Flash, the Bugle and of course Ned Leeds, maybe Webb is foreshadowing using the Hobgoblin in future films.

:thud:

....Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, now possibly Zooey! I am LOVING the casting of this film tbh.

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Well Hobgoblin would be a way to still get the kind of character in the films without introducing Harry or Norman and not having a direct comparision to the first Raimi film. I mean if we could except that Green Goblin threw Mary Jane off of the bridge why couldn't we accept that Hobbie is the one who snaps Gwen's neck (if they go that route.)

Re: Spider-Man: The Reboot!

Denis Leary is the latest name to join the cast of the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Leary is said to be in negotiations to play Police Captain George Stacy, father to Peter Parker's love interest, Gwen Stacy (to be played in the film by Emma Stone).

Captain Stacy was played in 2007's Spider-Man 3 by James Cromwell. In the comic book continuity, Stacy loses his life during a battle between Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus. Not knowing that he and Peter are the same person, Gwen blames Spider-Man for the tragedy.

Leary also joins Andrew Garfield as Peter, Martin Sheen as Ben Parker and Rhys Ifans in an unspecified villian role.

Spider-Man is slated to hit theaters on July 3, 2012.
