Oh god, Ive proved my point a thousand times, besides its near impossible to argue with you considering you think the Amazing Spiderman is the best movie of all time. And where does Batman play into this?
You said Spider-Man wasn't original or unique. Well It was the only one of the top 3 this year to have an original villain.
TDKR reused Carwoman and Bane, Avengers reused Loki and Spider-man had the only original villain of The Lizard.
I never said it was the best movie of all time, simply that it's a great movie.
Too many get all hung up on comparing it to raimi's one and saying it's not different enough. They don't do that for Batman 89 to BB even though the level of differences are very similar.
Batman had Michael Keaton as Batman, a Batsuit, a Batmobile, Vicki Vale as the love interest, Alfred as the family, a villain.
Spider-man had Tobey as Spider-Man, a Spidersuit, organic webs for webswinging, MJ as the leading lady, Aunt May & Uncle Ben as the family, a villain
Batman begins had a different actor as Batman, a different batsuit, a different batmobile, a different leading lady, Alfred as the family, different villain, Lucious Fox as the friend/mentor.
Amazing Spider-Man had a Different actor as Spider-Man, a different spidersuit, a different method for webswinging, a different leading lady, Aunt May & Unlce Ben as the family, different villain, Doc Connors as the friend/mentor
Same amount of differences from the originals.
Hell Nolan's Batman reused Joker and Bane and Catwoman in the sequels and nobody accuses that of being un-original
People are fine to not like the film, that is there right, Guinessfan made his points as to why he didn't like it and that's legimate points as it's 100% about the film. but to state it's not original or unique from the original Raimi attempt is bullcrap.
This was as different as you can get from the original.
After having this movie settle in a bit. I give it a solid 7.9. It was a great way to start the trilogy. (it wasn't needed, but it is what it is) I like it better than the Raimi attempt, and i expect big things from the sequel. (which is where this trilogy will live or die IMO) I liked it better than TDKR, but not quite as much as Avengers.
We're off to a good start, let's hope they will take it to another level. (i think it's in the cards)

I went in with an open mind, wanting to like the movie for what it is. But the fact is, TASM brought nothing new or amazing to the table. Mechanical webshooters, Gwen Stacey, The Lizard; these are all aesthetic differences that serve the same function the organics, Mary Jane and Goblin did in the original.
You can't even compare this film to BATMAN BEGINS. BB had a purpose since Batman's origin had never been told on film. BB and BATMAN '89 both work since one is an origin tale and the other is Batman vs. The Joker. When Nolan told that story in TDK, he at least made it compelling and fresh, and not a limp facsimile of Burton's original.
TASM tells a story that's been done to death, without any of the emotional resonance, chemistry, that made 1 and 2 work for me. It doesn't help that the villain's goal is the stupidest ____ I've seen in a comic book movie for some time.
Beat for beat it's the same plot as the original with a darker shade of paint and some inane differences to mix it up a bit. There's nothing compelling behind the creative choices and there's no legitimate reason for this movie to exist, other than Sony keeping the rights. It's not like the creators had the urge to tell this great new Spiderman story. The finished film is a strange mess that people either seem to love or hate. I thought it was meh when I saw it, but the more I think about it, the more I'd rank it with Spidey 3 for different reasons.
As good as Garfield is, it's too bad a better film wasn't built around him. And don't tell me the sequel will be better, because I have no interest in seeing it unless they get a new director and the reviews are up there with The Avengers.

IMO still a better start and more favorable over Rami's spidey. God i hated Rami's Spidey, I couldn't stand the fact that Peter was such a geek! so poor he lived like a bum and had to save mary jane in all three movies... cmon now. not to mention all the characters in the movie with the movie except Venom were outfitted horribly!! Green Goblin with that nasty arse alien ware, Doc Oc... dont get me started and sand man.. that was the cleanest green striped shirt i have ever seen!! no wear n tare, no holes... ugghhh glad thats all over

Amazing Spiderman did very little to distance itself from the 2001 version. It borrowed the exact same plot points from the original, same story just different villain. And your saying people dont compare Nolans Batman to Burtons? Have you been living under a rock? Comparing the ____ that Amazing Spiderman was to Nolans Batman films is just a huge fail on your part. Batmans origin had never been told on film before. The ASM was just a wasted rehash. It lacked the heart and emotion of the originals, and the soundtrack is straight up garbage and often misplaced.

SHYEAH THATS EXACTLY THE SAME... NOT!
Only similarities are the names, the places, three characters, the villains testing a serum on himself, the spider bite and that's it. People who say it's the same plot/film are so wrong it boggle the mind.
Nova is right guys, I think what everyone is hung up on is how he discovered his powers, yeah it might be the same but should not hang that up on the whole movie. Just wait for part two, I believe thats when the story takes a nice turn!
IMO still a better start and more favorable over Rami's spidey. God i hated Rami's Spidey, I couldn't stand the fact that Peter was such a geek! so poor he lived like a bum and had to save mary jane in all three movies... cmon now.
no different feeling towards both, I love the comics but the way he was portrayed in the movie, some things done in graphic novels/ comic books don't really transition well on the big screen, thats my point.
Just saw this a little while ago. Right now i judge it to be the best spider-man movie so far and amongst if not the best superhero movie yet.
To me it encaptulates everything a superhero movie should be and everything a perfect spider-man movie should have... pain, loss, heroism, love, courage, romance, suffering, comedy, action, a kick ass costume, friendship, responsibility & a badass villain.
i still like the previous films, and am a huge spidey fan, but this film does everthing those films did right and does everything right that those films did wrong. from webshooters, to the way Spidey moves, to his pain and loss, it handles all the elements in perfect balance.
i understand and agree with the AICN reviewew who said this film handles relationships better than all other superhero films as this is a film that has a superb supporting cast and the relationships and hardships touch you as they are more relatable.
Near enough everything is a PRO from me, there are one or two things that could've been different for the better, but very few.
STORY
I knew i loved this film before Spider-Man even showed up, as it handled the story of Peter Parker and his friends and loverones so brillaintly. "The Untold Story" remains untold but it's seeds have been planted and there is an air of mystery surround Peter, his powers (why he survived when others didn't) and his Father.
The surprise and struggle to understand and control his new abilites provided great comedic and strugglesome moments, those were definatley a highlight.
Three people knew his identity, one he told, one found out and one he told. This worked well, it's no les that some other superheroes and was very plausible how it all came about.
As for the mask coming off there was only one scene where it didn't feel right, that was where he was walking throough the High School as Spider-man without his mask looking for Lizard, any lingerin studen or teacher could've seen him. all other times where where people couldn't seee his face or that scene with the kid to help him
When Uncle Ben died i saw it coming, probably everyone familiar with Spider-Man saw it coming but even though it wasn't a surprise it still shocked, I was very saddened at the death of Captain Stacy too as i loved his character and wished him to remain for the sequel, in fact these are one of the best things about this film is delivers on the great contradiction of Spider-Man, being Spider-Man means personal loss and death for Peter's loved ones, it's the price he pays. one of the other key things that made this film so good and well made was the supporting cast and characters...
CHARACTERS
Andrew Garfield IS Peter Parker, where as Tobey played Peter as a throwback to the '60s gee-wiz aww-shucks Peter, Garfield is a modern more streetwise version of Peter.
Spider-Man is a different character to Peter, not just in costume but in attitude, handled excellently, the way he moves is like the train sequence from SM2 just all the time. He is not invincble, he takes his licks and carries on. THIS is what makes him a hero, the persisttance, Spider-Man didn't emerge in this film truly until after he saved that kid and realized that if he weren't there that kid would've died, This is the moment that Peter gave birth to a character and job that would change his life forever.
Lizard, Lizard to me has been the second best Spider-Man villain on the big screen after Doc Ock. his design was great, the only thing not amazing was his face, but i don't think it could've gone too much diffrent either way and still worked, i'd have like his voice to be deeper and more different than Connors. i LOVED his plan, ti's such a comic book villain plan, to transform everyone to a creatue like him could've and maybe was (not sure) lifted straight out of the comics.
Uncle Ben was very funny and Sheen played him brilliantly.
Aunt May's concern for Peter was another plus and Sally Field did a great Job with this role.
Gwen's burgeoning love for Peter as the film progressed was enjoyable and she wasn't just there to be captured and bait for Spider-Man, annother plus.
Rhys Ifans played the egotisical scientist turned mad scientist brilliantly.
Captain Stacy played the hard-nosed cop out to get Spider-man with ease and although this changed when Peter revealed himslef to be Spider-Man it made me love his character for the realism of the dramatic change one would have if they found out someone they knew or cared about was in the frame.
Even Flash was handled excellently as the bully turned friend with a Spidey fanboy emerging.
VERDICT:
10/10
Best Spider-Man film (to me) and my favourite superhero movie at this moment (i'm still hyped), near enough everything worked and fell into place with perfection, can't wait to see it again and the sequels
no different feeling towards both, I love the comics but the way he was portrayed in the movie, some things done in graphic novels/ comic books don't really transition well on the big screen, thats my point.
So you think seeing a Parker that was bio-engineered from a little kid to be the Amazing Spider-Man makes a better story? It didn't work for Ang Lee's Hulk and it's not gonna work for Spider-Man either.

Im not a big fan of Hulk, so I really didn't like that movie anyways, and no it didn't work but that was just a small portion of why the movie sucked so bad also because the movie was long and boring as hell. Im not sure where you got that he was bio-engineered from when he was a little kid, maybe i missed that whole part, ive only seen it once. I think the way its being told now is working, at least for me anyways.
