Let's just take a minute to appreciate that. To all those people at the beginning of this thread who crapped on Joss for getting the job.

And big hugs to those of us who knew it would be brilliant.

Uh yeah. When he was abusing the punching bag, he looked...goooood. And I loved his figure in the Cap suit. I thought it was pretty sexy.

You must have watched a different movie than I did, because I thought Hulk had plenty of screen time and amazing sequences... and no way, is Lee's Hulk better than this one...

Agreed. If there had been more Hulk, there would have been less Banner and I don't think I would have enjoyed that.

the only thing I didn't get is the transformation of hulk. On the carrier he turned into a mindless monster destroyed everything and almost killed bw. Yet in the final battle bruce banner has full control of him and hulk followed orders and rescued his teammates instead of acting like a mindless monster.

I thought it was due to Loki's presence. All the rage he was starting between the group. That was my take on it. He knew the way to messing up the group was through Hulk, and it was working, at first.

He didn't pick it up initially because he was contemplating how sh.it things were, and how he couldn't save Coulson...no doubt thinking it was his fault (hence him clenching his fist).

That's how I understood it anyway.

I thought yeah, he was taking a moment to reflect. If he picked it up again, it better mean something. It better mean he's ready to fight. Fight his brother, take him down, save Earth.
Etc.

I'll be the first to admit, I was skeptical when he got the gig. Up until now, nothing he'd ever done was anywhere even remotely as big as THE AVENGERS in scope and scale. As much as some of you guys love Buffy, Angel, Firefly, etc. and as good as some of that is it pales in comparison to the absolute beheamoth job that was AVENGERS.

So, yeah, I was initially skeptical and ultimately cautiously optimistic. I knew he could write a good script, but there was absolutely nothing in his career to suggest he could direct something this mammoth. But he pulled it off, with gusto. Good on him. He's now earned every benefit of the doubt as a filmmaker from me.

And, by the way, I don't think this was a case of the diehard Whedonites being vindicated. Of course that faction was going to put all faith in him regardless. But this film is on another level. This isn't the cult fandom stuff he dabbled in before. It's the big leagues. And he did it. Major kudos.

We saw it again last night and man, it was so damn good, second viewing and all.

There were a couple scenes that I noted to Jenn that stood out to me, that may not have to others.

When Tony is telling Steve that he's not a hero, or what have you. That he was pumped full of stuff. That bothered me. Steve was always a hero. He was puny and yet he still wanted to fight for his country for the people. Maybe this is stuff Tony doesn't know about Steve. I realize it's just a movie. But I was like...YOU!! How dare you!

And for those of us who believe in God (for the rest of you, please move on) I loved the scene where the older gentlemen stands up to Loki. We're told not to kneel before anyone but God. And just as the guy was about to be pulverized by Loki, Cap shows up. Saved! Loved it.

So many moments that I was able to pay more attention to this time around. The dialogue was so great and I just cannot wait to see it a few more times to note more stuff.

I like to analyze a lot. But I have total A.D.D. and I have a hard time remembering things I want to talk about unless I write them down right away.

It's time for something new and a move for the Infinity Gauntlet is just that.

i dont know how they going to tie thanos into the next movie(s). Since in thor we already see the infinity gauntlet has been assembled, that means a large part of thanos' story was done. So they have to skip all the way towards the major battle of thanos killing all the superheroes.

Also i dont remember the story exactly in the comic, how did the infinity gauntlet ended up on asgard guarded by the destroyer? that means thanos was defeated already? The appearance of thanos really raised a lot of questions.

I have a feeling marvel didnt think the story through...hope i am wrong though.

I want to say the same thing but I also want this to continue making the big bucks in the theater. Can you imagine how much this is going to make in sales once it's released on dvd/bluray? I wonder if it will pre-sell out for a while.

At that point, they were in the lab and being influenced by Loki's scepter. That is also why Cap was acting out of character and being a bully belittling Stark by asking what he was without his suit and then trying to pick a fight with Stark telling him to get in the suit so they could fight.

Emotions were high period. Coulson had died. It was truly affecting Tony. It was his first man down.

What made me have absolute faith in him is ability to write for an ensemble cast. Whedon's probably one of the best character writers out there, and I knew going in that the characters would be done justice and the writing for them would strong.

Special effects, crazy action.....that's all great, but the thing that makes this movie so damn good is that you're invested in the people. The action is elevated because of the characters. The movie fully engages you and makes you give a damn. When you're watching the crazy action, it's the characters you're paying attention to in the end. The things they're saying and doing.

There's drama. There's humor. There's a little bit of everything and the strength of the group dynamic is what made this film truly work. And that's all Whedon.

As others have said already, that's the huge difference between something like this and something like Transformers - both have really sick action, but Transformers feels a hell of a lot more empty because the writing and characters have never been strong enough, and are especially lacking once Bay is let loose on the sequels.

As much as I loved War Machine, I'm glad he didn't show up in the Avengers movie. There was enough going on.
