Do that many people actually watch these movies in 3d at home? I avoid 3d like the plague when I'm at the theater. I don't know anyone who actually uses a 3d tv at home.

I'd much much rather prefer they drop the 3d discs in favor of all the bonus content/commentaries/deleted scenes.

I have a 3D setup at home and a little over fifty 3D Blu-rays. The active glasses used in home 3D are battery powered to sync up with your TV and in my opinion the end result looks great and in many cases better than what you get in the theater.

The majority of the movies available for home 3D are family/animated titles and so that is going to limit the appeal to certain people. But now that I've gotten used to seeing things in 3D at home, that is how I prefer it and I'm always happy when a film gets a 3D Blu-ray release for those who want it.

After watching something like Hugo in 3D, there is just no way that I would ever want to see it in 2D. Watching Pixar/Dreamworks movies is like looking out a window and seeing an animated world come to life with depth and realism. When 3D is done properly, it is (visually) immersive and involving in ways that 2D can't match. I respect the opinion of those who can't stand 3D or find it to be a gimmick, but personally I disagree. I think it's great fun.

It's like comparing a pop-up book to a regular picture book. Yes, a pop-up book can be seen as a gimmick. If the story is strong enough, it should be able to stand up on its own merits without stuff popping off the page. But pop-up books look cool and are really fun and involving for a kid to read and explore. That's the point. It's a more interactive and visually engaging way of telling a story. Do I want to see 3D Schindler's List? No way. But a comic book action movie like Avengers? Of course.

:goodpost::clap:goodpost:

Damn that was well said.

I wish Hustler had pop out books :(

No chance of it catching Avatar

It'll remain #3 all time, probably end up near $1.5bn total (which was the upper range of my estimate the day after I saw it open here in the UK :lol )

Maybe they will have a re-release of the Avengers in a year or so. Isn't that how the #1 and 2 movies got so far?

I'd be willing to try and watch a 3d movie at home, but I'm not sure it would change my mind on 3d in general. My main problem with it isn't so much that I think it's a gimmick (even though it is a lot of times), it's the consistent headache that always occurs because of it. I'm basically paying extra to ruin the movie experience. :lol

I'm glad the set is including 3d copies of the films for those that will enjoy them, but I still wish we were getting the bonus features instead.

When is the bluray out again, I still have time. :yess:

But wife wants to see Snow White Got The Hots For Thor though :(

Wait, that's still kinda of an Avengers movie, just minus the other Avengers, Loki, Shield, Helicarrier, NYC, Alien invasion, Thanos, Pepper Potts and Stan Lee cameo.

:nono You will grow a mangina from seeing it. If she has the hots for Thor, take her to see Thor. :lecture:lecture:lecture

My mother has the same problem. I don't blame you for not going then. I have astigmatism, so sometimes I have trouble actually focusing on it.
