Obviously time will tell who's going to be the box office champ. I think Avengers makes the most sense because it's got a built in fan base for every hero vs. just Batman or the Hobbit. The Avengers did have a steep drop off for this week so far. It's under performed what TDK did so it may end up like the Twilight films and just have a heavy front end without the legs that TDK had. TDKR doesn't seem to have the hype that TDK did and it certainly doesn't have the curiousity of a star dying attached to it so it to me has the most fascinating storyline to follow, which is of course wether or not TDK was just lightning striking. The Hobbit is a real wild card which I could see being huge and can also see just falling in line with the Harry Potter's of recent. No matter who the winner is Hollywood should be sucking the dicks of all involved with these three films.

:lol

Serious write up, then the ending. :lol

Avengers seems to be doing great, 744 million!

Has Avengers dropped, seemed to be doing great, 744 million!

He's talking about that it made 18 million Monday and 17 million Tuesday compared to TDK making a bit more when it opened. The amount of money The Avengers has made so far is nuts. Its over $500 million at the foreign bo and I do think has a real chance to crack a billion this weekend.

I will say this: I am a manager at a movie theater, therefore I haven't paid to see a movie unless it's one we don't get (example Tinker Tailor and Young Adult). I saw The Avengers and LOVED IT. It was fun and I am so glad Joss Whedon finally has a big hit (to put the big mildly). But to support Nolan and Batman, I will find the nearest IMAX and pay to see it there also. Probably several times. While I loved The Avengers, I have to support financially WB and their decision to let Nolan make a serious Batman trilogy. I fear after The Avengers, movie studios will want to cash in by only making "fun" comic book films. I am not saying all comic book films have to be serious and dark, but let the source material determine the type of film made. Avengers had just the right tone for it's material, Nolan's Batman trilogy has the right tone for Batman IMO. I just hope TDKR does great and WB won't want to make the next version of Batman lighthearted.

Yeah the pace of Avengers is frenetic at the moment, key will be the dropoffs from here on. If 2nd weekend is 50% drop, it still makes $100MM at the US weekend and nears $1bn worldwide... a greater than 50% drop would hurt though

Avengers all the way for me. I like my super hero movies to have some fun in them and I find TDK to be overly dark, boring and just void of any fun.

Exactly, Avengers is getting both IMAX and 3D boost

TDKR will only get IMAX boost.

Therefore, Avengers boost > TDKR boost, the difference being 3D premiums

Yes, but it's not like the option wasn't available to him. He turned it down. So any gain Avengers would have over TDKR as far as 3D goes, becomes negated.

Wanna bet?

I don't take Monopoly money. Sorry. :wave
