For all the crap the Transformers films get they're just fun rides for the most part. You can totally leave everything mental at the door. The Avengers while not Schindler's List does have a solid story to go with the beauty that is the ride. I'm sorry but the folks I notice hammering the film are tending to be Nolan fanboys who I think are concerned their film won't be drooled over the most.

PS: I like the Nolan batman films and plan on seeing TDKR at midnight. :)

But the only reasons why these films are being compared is:

  • DC vs Marvel
  • "superhero"/"comic book" movies
  • Made a lot of money
  • Oh, and "BEST SUPER HERO/COMIC BOOK MOVIE EVEH" quotes

I don't watch The Avengers because I want to see something like The Dark Knight and vice versa. They are actually very different when compared to each other as films (which threads like this have shown). TF3 and TA have more in common in that regard (*cough*final battle*cough*). But TA vs TDK is just much more controversial. :wink1:

That doesn't mean I think TA is a crap movie like I think TF3 is. I think The Avengers did a much better job at what it was going for and I enjoyed it more because of that. Part of which is what you said.

The Avengers/Whedon fanboys have been hammering on TDK/TDKR/Nolan, too. :huh

That's the reason why someone made this thread in the first place and somehow it has been allowed to stay open. :monkey1

My point is this whole feud is really stupid.

But you're a joke. :dunno
So are you. :hi5:

Any chance this might take down avatar. it hit the billion mark.

As someone who loves both TF3, and the Avengers....they're just not the same.

One is closer to VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER, the other is HOUSE ON A HILL OF ____ING GOLD.

So. Psh.

And, yes, Donner and Burton created the old school hero genre, but
Raimi, Nolan, ect...created the modern day superhero flicks.

Maybe even add Bryan Singer to the list.

As for James Gunn? Super, dude. Movie is awesome, and is the most realistic superhero flick to date. I like it more then Kick-Ass.

I actually have never even heard of Super or James Gunn :lol

Just looked it up on IMDB

So not sure why Whedon mentioned it :dunno, guess i'll check it out

What this guy said.

I dunno. Didn't see that one.

But Rainn Wilson is great in Super. It's a really, really dark comedy.

Super was better than Defendor, but both were great. Rainn Wilson was fantastic in Super.

These are the type of superhero movies I prefer. Realistic, gritty and with conflicted characters. Like the Watchmen. Boy do I love the Watchmen. Batman also get's a thumbs up for at least being gritty and having conflicted characters.

I also like it when the bad guys are succeeding. Like in TDK, Joker manages to corrupt innocent minds and turn Batman into the villain. At no time in the Avengers did I think that the baddies would win. There was very little suspense, edge of the seat moments. Felt like nothing was at stake.

Both are equally good, I can't choose a favorite.

I loved Super but really really hated Defendor, defendor was really awful, i hated it so much i didnt even really pay attention at the end, it was just awful,

you cant compare TDK to this turd. TDK is one of the best action films ever with the greatest villain of all time. And avengers has a [EDIT] villain, stupid story, cgi action, really cheesy dialogue, and is just really really ____ing [EDIT].
