Yeah the climax of TDK could’ve been a lot better, but the same can be said for the Batman. I found the Riddlers master plan to be “awesome” too up until the flooding of Gotham bit at the end. That felt really forced. He finally got what he wanted and exposed the deep corruption in Gotham and then instead of targetting the corrupt he tries to kill everyone…? The entire third act fell flat for me. I still enjoyed the movie as a whole.

I agree with this. The entire climax/Act 3 felt very forced and tacked on. For me, in my personal head-canon, the movie ends when Batman confronts Riddler in Arkham and learns that Nashton doesn't really know Batman IS Bruce Wayne (or so we think).

I just can't cling to cartoons like some of you.
There's a lot I like about BTAS but I don't have the attachment to it some fans do, and never found the performances could transcend the kids' cartoon medium. But to each their own. Maybe I was too old for it when it came out or something. I remember being excited when it premiered and then I don't remember it at all, which makes me think I abandoned it for girls.

Yeah, I think Star Wars is as childish as my movie tastes remain.

But I think new generations need to compartmentalize reality and accept animation in the same way they accept live-action, and certainly their children will, in order to truly live in the metaverse. People will have two very distinctive lives one day. Like day and night -- one natural, one digital.

Actually ... I was 19 when it came out. So I probably vibed with the music and art, and was still high on Batman Returns which would have come out a few months prior ... and then lost interest.

I'd abandoned comics and other nerdy stuff except for movies when I turned 15, so it's no surprise I didn't follow the show. Revisited it later in life and enjoyed it, but more for the look then the actual scripts and performances. I quite liked the art style.

I watched the first year of BTAS with enthusiasm. The retro style was cool. Loved the Freeze episode like many others. I never cared for their rendition of the Joker. Hated Harley. I think when those two started taking over, I quickly dropped the show. It got real toony to me.

I can't remember the last cartoon I truly really loved. Movies took over for me at a very early age. Cartoons for me were for comedy like Bugs Bunny.

Even if you don't care for the Animated Series, have you watched Batman: Mask of the Phantasm? It was the best theatrical Batman movie until The Batman came along. When I mention Hamill's portrayal of the Joker as being better than Ledger's, it is Mask of the Phantasm that I am largely referring to rather than the Animated Series as a whole (as I thought we were comparing Batman movies).

I appreciate that is still animation, so may not be your vibe!

I’m glad I’m not the only one crazy about btas joker. The voice is iconic and so is the laugh but I never liked him alll to much. He never had a compelling arc I guess. All the other villains did. He was just the crazy mad man.

Have any of you watched The Dark Knight Returns animated movie? It was initially a two parter, but you can probably just find it as a combined movie. Batman is voiced by Peter Weller and really that is all you need to know. TDKR is arguably the best Batman comic of all-time and the animation team kept the gory violence and didn't change plot or characters like some of the other adaptions have. I cannot recommend it enough. It is still the best complete Batman movie for me.

The Dark Knight Returns movie is great! You can get it on Blu Ray as one single movie with Part 1 & 2 seamlessly joined (I own this and it works really well as a single movie);

However, technically it's not a theatrical movie as it didn't get a cinematic release. Unlike Batman: Mask of the Phantasm which was in cinemas in '93.

Yeah I waited for the deluxe release. No point in owning separate parts, which they did at first. I got the steelbook one at Best Buy.

This is one of my favorites! And the music is fantastic also.

I watched the animated adaptation of Year One and became bored with it and felt my time would have been better spent reading the comic again with it's more interesting artwork and atmosphere.

Hamill did a great job with the voice of Joker, but that's all it was.

Who are the villains in Dark Knight Returns?
The police, Joker, Two-Face, mutant gang, mutant leader (essentially Bane) and Superman.

I feel like the rest of the animated movies missed their marks. Hush was terrible with the villain swap. I thought the Long Halloween and Year One were much better in graphic novel form. The Killing Joke was just dumb with Joker on a killing spree and ends with Batman and Joker sharing a laugh. Wtf?
It might be ban worthy. :lol
Better be a whole month and none of this two weeks garbage. :lol

So did small screen viewing hold up to the Imax experience? Or did the 3 hour feel 3 hours now?
