It's a shame that the Sideshow AOD sculpt lacks so much compared to the Evil Ash one. EA is a fantastic figure considering the age, and the weathering looks great! :rock

Yeah... they were going for a pretty cool look on Ash, but fell way short. Even with a repaint it's still awful and oversized :lol

But, the Evil Ash is really solid and being a bit large isn't much of an issues since the original make up and helmet would have made it a bit bigger to begin with.

This is a great thread! That Mumm-Ra looks awesome! :clap Funny how just the body alone tends to run you a good $50 these days.

Freddy Krueger:

$30 SSC Freddy, repainted/modded head, hands, hat
Minus $15 (sold stock shirt/pants)
$6 sweater, X'ed out
$4 pants, weathered
$5 boots
$40 body

My first ever attempt at a sculpt. Hopefully he'll be my Ash head. WIP obviously.

Shout out to Turdferguson for helping me along.

Good start Hunter... each time you do it they get better and you learn more about what works and doesnt. I can't sculpt a decent human likeness to save my life, but I've had some success with the non-human ones.

Cool thread, MummRa rocks:rock

Thanks... and I know you've got some under $100 customs in your catalog :lecture

Man, those are both badass! Really love the Freddy and Ghostface is classic. I had considered going the custom route on GF, but then Asmus one was on sale for $50 shipped so I took the cowards way :lol

And it is funny how just one accessory or item can be the bulk of a figures cost. I'm glad we finally have some affordable alternatives to the TT.

I just realised I had two figures that I can post here:

River:
Head from Trevor $35
Dress from D-art studios $30
Triad Toys boots about $10
Body from HT Alice, which I decided to take off display and use for customs so it was sort of free

Wash is an old custom so only estimated prices:
Head $35
Clothing from ebay - no more than $30
Vest I got for free from one of the members here.
Sideshow's Pro body from one of my ex display figures so again cost me nothing.

Scream/Ghostface:

$30 Scream robe set from D-Art Studios
$15 head (mask sculpted on top)
$30 old school "broad shoulder" Trype
Boots, jeans, hands, knife = parts tub (maybe $15 total)

I want that Ghostface bad!!!

Great threads this and the original.
Glad to see I’m not the only "tramp collecter":pfft:
I will pay if I want something in particular but love a bargain and diy.
Not many of my figures suprisingly are under 50 dollars (I wish).
I’ll post a few cheapies;)

Great thread idea! :clap

Really like this one: :yess:

Mando, where did you get this awesome freddy sweater for $6??? It's a top notch figure, congratulations!

It owes nothing to Beto's version, I'm amazed... really want to make my Freddy right, but the Sideshow sweater I'm using is too big.

Really great stuff in the thread. Gives me hope for customs that I can throw together!

Parts list and cost:
$55 Head by Caine, painted by me
$15 Soldier Story body and hand
$20 Approximate cost of Ash pieces from a full figure
$5 SS Indiana Jones pants and 2 better belts from parts bin
$95 Total

I really wanted to do this version when Caine released his head... but the Sideshow shirt is too big, and the cape too long, did you retailor to make it look this way?

I did retailor it... I just turned the shirt inside out and took created a thinner sleeve by sewing a new seam and cutting off the excess and then I moved the black snaps on the right side of the shirt over a bit. Since they're just a straight line I hand stitched, which is the extent of my ability. Doing both of those made the shirt fit way better. I didn't actually do anything to the cape... but I did water treat it which makes it hang nicer.

If you use the original pants for Ash you'll want to resew the in seam a bit higher in order to get rid of the tall waist.

Thanks! The sweater actually came like this:

That about sums it up for me too. But taking things in is definitely a useful trick to making certain parts work better (or at all).

Wow Mando... unrecognizable change to the sweater. I'm strongly considering tackling Freddy now :rock

Now I don't know if this is cheating or not... but here's "technically" an under $100 custom. However, it was done through strategic buying and selling.
