So...the film has been on HBO HD for the past couple of days and I've watched the entire film in back-to-back days. I can't help it, it's just so AWESOME !!!!!

Yea, but what happens to Joker?
It ends with him hanging from a rope?
And two-face trips and dies.
The ending of this movie always left me a little uneasy, like there was no lasting impact

it makes sense when you consider that Nolan planned for the Joker to return in 'Batman 3'

Yeah, that ending is kind of a bummer. I figure Joker was planned for 3 so thats why he ended like he did but I always thought that Two-Face's story ended too quick. It would have been nice to see Harvy just become TF at the end of 2 and then be the major thorn in 3.... oh well.

Yup, it's one of those movies you HAVE to stop and watch it, even if you switched over in the middle of the film. Like most everyone else I have the film (on Blu-Ray) but have stopped several times this weekend and last night to watch it playing on HBO HD.

It was never confirmed, just a rumor. Just like the whole "two-face" is still alive ordeal. Speaking of which...

I still didn't like how "two-face" came to be in that movie.

Joker would just go to Arkam where he always goes when he gets caught. That's where all batman villains go when they get caught.

Not Ras.

I believe Goyer confirmed that The Joker was planned for the third in the original treatments to complete the story there and so was Two Face but after Heath's passing they obviously had to go back to the drawing board. Nolan effectively rewrites a lot of Goyer's treatments and his brother revises after that but Goyer said that the third film was going to be radically changed than what originally thought...

I think everyone has to remember that "Two-Face" was a fairly novel interpretation in this movie. This particular Two-Face wouldnt work as an ongoing crime lord. TDK was for all intents and purposes a giant metaphore with smaller metaphores mixed into the pot.

The overall metaphore is the inconsistancy and volitility of the individual which causes instability in society. Batman was obviously a metaphore for good exemplifying virtue, honor, morality and justice. Joker was a metaphore for evil exemplifying immorality and injustice. Harvey Dent/Two-Face was a little more complicated and reflected the more real duality that exists in the common man. Harvey was essentially a metaphor for society as a whole showing the scales can easily tip in either direction. Batman (good) and joker (evil) pulling Harvey in different directions was in its most basic of forms the old devil on one shoulder and angel on the other.

The ending of TDK is fine IMO, you can still make mention of Joker in 3 and how hes in Arkham.

Two-Face could have been drawn out, but in reality his story wrapped up nicely with Rachels and the other characters so his end was kinda fitting.

As far as if a sequel can do as well as TDK. It can at very least come close. If theres still people who want to say Heath's death had something to do with this opening being so big, then you could argue that for that same reason, a 3rd would do well, people would be interested if it really could do as well without him.

Plus the Riddler or whoever else can be just as menacing, dangerous and destructive as the Joker, even more so when the Joker or Two-Face aren't present to detract from there presence.

Because even if they put Riddler in 3 and he were the main villain, if they did a 30 second clip with Heath in Arkham, that would be what everyone was talking about. This gives the new villain room to prove himself without being overshadowed or lessened.

Yup, the Joker was going to be prominently featured in the third film.

Some sad news for us fans, if true:

Is Christopher Nolan Giving Up On Batman 3?

The man that brought back fear and respect to the tarnished cape and cowl might be stepping back from the third Batman installment. It's almost hard to imagine a Bale Batman flick without Christopher Nolan.

Batman-on-Film is quoting its Batman film source — who is often spot-on about these things — claiming Nolan is ready to part with the WB on the next Batman movie, and there isn't much we can do about it, other than maybe threaten to blow up some hospitals.

"The death of Heath Ledger in January of 2008 rocked Mr. Nolan hard. So hard that Chris was convinced that TDK was going to be it for him and Batman on film."

They're also saying that the loss not only impacted the director emotionally, but it also completely changed the story for the third film, which was set to feature the Joker heavily. The film now stands devoid of a main villain, and the writers [Goyer and Jonathan Nolan] are at "square one."

I hope they can get it together. Nolan did so much for the bat, I want to see him finish it out strong and as he always envisioned. He hasn't steered us wrong yet.
