One of the most well executed endings I have ever seen.

It really leaves something for everyone.

For viewers who want a happy ending, you won't get a better happily ever after ending then that cafe scene. But if you want a more edgy interpretation, it is arguable that old man Alfred was merely day dreaming at the cafe as a way of mourning/dealing with the loss of Bruce Wayne. You can really have your cake and eat it too!

Interesting take on it. Has either/or been confirmed or denied?

It slays me whenever someone brings up the "Alfred is dreaming" interpretation as a valid one. It isn't. This is not Inception. There are numerous literal plot points in the final scenes that suggest that Bruce surviving at the end is the true, irrefutable ending.

As pointed out by Zach (with a bit from Nam):

1.Bat autopilot fixed
2.Bat signal fixed (after Wayne's funeral)
3.Why would Alfred dream of Selina, a person who he only saw briefly, and not someone like Talia, who he thought would be a good match for Wayne?
4.Pearl necklace Wayne's lawyers couldn't find is around selina's neck at the end.
5. Blake telling the woman his real name, getting the bag with the GPS, following it to the Batcave and being offered the position of the new Batman despite Alfred briefly having met the man, but knowing both his alibi and his real name.

Why would alfred dream of the pearl necklace?

That being said, I do think the final 10 minutes of the movie is well crafted.

Are you just choosing to ignore the fact that Bruce Wayne repaired the bat signal & left everything for Blake? There were a lot of things in the film that let us know that Bruce Wayne is in fact, alive.

This isn't Inception. Alfred was not 'day dreaming' - There is no mystery behind the ending. Bruce Wayne is alive. The end.

Can someone tell me what soundtrack is playing in the background when Batman first rolls up on his bat pod?

Its from the special edition; extra track number 16;

Risen from darkness is the music played when he is on the batpod/Catwoman breaking into daggets safe

Heres my two favourites;

Shadows Betray You. Has a real dark vibe to it! And ofcourse, its an epic BANE track! 3mins 39 it has an epic version of the 'im not a hero' violin bit which I adored.

Also, have this track playing on a predator map in AC. Its. Perfect.

And 'no stone unturned' this is the full suite of Bats/Cats chasing Talia and the tumblers all the way to Batman flying out to sea with the bomb and everyone watching;

I must say, why do people insist on questioning whether or not the end of TDKR was real. It's like "well, maybe Bruce is dead." WHY? WHY CAN'T YOU JUST BE HAPPY THAT HE GETS A HAPPY ENDING!?! What did Bruce Wayne do to make you want him to die so much!?! LEAVE BRUCE WAYNE ALONE!!!

I know right!? He fixes the auto pilot, lies about it so he could fake his death, leave the mantle to Blake, needed everyone to believe he was dead, lets Lucious know he is alive by the software patch, lets Gordon know he is alive by the bat signal being fixed, lets Blake know he is alive by the coordinates, lets alfread know he alive by sending him the message he always wished. They steal his mothers pearls for Selina to have as well.

Alfred wouldnt dream about Selina because Alfred never knew much of her except she stole the Pearls which Bruce got back.

Simple explanation.

The whole trilogy was Alfred's imaginary dream about some guy he was staring at from across the cafe.

The whole film turned out to be bruces dream after Falcone's men put him in a coma for insulting him by having no gun but a little bit of Spirit in him :rotfl

...while waiting for Steve Martin to turn up with an eyepatch and a cork on his fork.

May I go to the bathroom?..............................................................................................Thank you. :lol

I thought the movie needed a superior MacMuffin. Like a crystal skull or something. Batman would then need to use his extensive skills to fight off an alien horde.

But that's just me. :dunno

Batman swinging with greaser monkeys or fighting giant ants would have been so sweet in IMAX.

i think Alfred was the "tourist".
