Whether real or fake, that would have been great and could have been done without Ledger. A shame Nolan was such sap and completely avoided even a simple mention of the character. That will always be a huge flaw in this film to me.

Agree to disagree. This was a fail of a move by Nolan IMO.

No, I agree with you. But I understand the reason, hence why it doesn't bug me.

Yes, he should've. But didn't because he was a friend. We all deal with grief differently. Some sweep it under the rug, some embrace it, some stay there, some move on.

Nolan is a human being. And while I wish there was something....I understand.

The fail move in my opinion, was to ever make a third movie after Heath died. :dunno

Not making a third would have been a fail. For me this wasn't the best film it could be but not doing it would have been worse.

Agreed. But a third movie should have had Heath's Joker in it as a main character but that's impossible. So then what, just mention him without showing him so to explain his absence?

For me, the story ends here with this beautiful shot,

An unknown future with Batman battling the Joker (we're destined to do this forever) and continuing his war on crime with other freakish rogues. A world that would exist had Ledger not died.

The Dark Knight Rises is a nice "what if" story. What if the Dent conspiracy between Batman and Gordon worked? What if Bruce Wayne decided to retire and become a hermit for 8 years? What if Alfred had actually went to Italy once a year when Bruce was gone 7 years in Batman Begins, looking to see if Wayne was happy? What if Ra's Al Ghul had a daughter? What if the League of Shadows didn't die with Ra's Al Ghul and a terrorist known as Bane and came to destroy Gotham with a sustainable energy orb invested by Wayne? What if a random kid known as John Blake saw Bruce at an orphanage and picked up immediately on the fact that Bruce was Batman?

What if Alfred told Bruce about Rachel's letter? What if he found happiness?

That's how I feel about it.

I'm so glad I just let the movie be what it wanted to be, instead of wanting what I wanted the movie to be.

Such a shame he lost a friend, and felt distraught about him. ____ HIM FOR HAVING EMOTIONS! :lol

While his intentions were honorable, fearing any mention might somehow tarnish the performance in TDK, it comes off as almost the opposite though, as if he was so embarrassed by it, or Ledger's death, he obliterated any mention from the follow-up. I can only wonder what those who don't follow and don't know the "why" think about the Joker's exclusion.

Yeah, same here. I think it was the first swing and miss for this movie for me by pretending the joker didn't happen. He set the events in motion that had batman go into retirement and you don't even give the character that little nod.

Don't get me wrong heaths job as the joker was fresking amazing but he doesn't own the role it's ok to use the character again.

I know right. They kept bringing up Harvey Dent and his death 8 years ago, over and over again. And not even a single mention, that part of the reason he even flipped out was because of the crap going on in the city at the time, which was a result of the Joker messing with things, AND the Joker even manipulating Dent in a way to create some anarchy.

I think the Joker's absence didn't hurt TDKR the movie but it did hurt the trilogy a bit. Kind of like Sarumon being a no-show in the theatrical cut of ROTK.

This is what I feel. TDK story ended with Heath's death.

Well, I look at it like this if you're not gonna recast mention him at least.

Fixed :wink1:

Just seemed so odd to me to not use his character at all.

I agree with you 100%.

I just understand it....so it doesn't bother me.

And TDK's story ended with JGL in the batcave rising. :lecture

Well who knows. As far as TDKR is concerned, perhaps Dent was scarred by the mob (Maroni specifically) and drove mad when they kill Rachel. Just take the events of Batman Begins and the information that we know of Dent and the mob (Batman, Gordon, and Dent trying to fight them) and viola, you have TDKR.

The Joker is a middle man that was easy to conveniently cut out.

Though it is a bit troubling that Jonathan Crane is a recurring gag character in each film and yet the Joker is not.
