Why can Rachel be recast in a heart beat but not Joker?

Just because he overdosed?

That's his problem, not ours, but now the fans have to deal with the makers of TDKR being forced to write a movie set 8 years after TDK just because Heath Ledger couldn't control himself and some misguided self righteous respect for the actor.

That's crap if you ask me.

I think many people are missing the point of the 8 yr gap

It serves to give real meaning to Batmans sacrifice at the end of TDK - him taking the fall did not go in vain, it worked, for a while - if the story just picked up right after and events led up to Batman faking his death and passing on the mantle if would really feel forced if you ask me.

They came up with the ending first (which is perfect for me) and filled the gaps after that. If you look at it with that lense it makes perfect sense

Besides why the hell would anyone want to see joker again within the Nolanverse when he's already been done more than justice? Sure I agree a mention would have been nice but no way I'd want to see him recast, leave that to the reboot

The batwing was way overused, I was wanting that thing shot down so he would be forced to actually do some creative thinking to save the day.

Tumbler is still my favourite I wish they had just refined it like the batsuit over the course of the films.

I think Nolan was just dead set on not bringing back the Tumbler for Batman after the way TDK ended, but your right, I would've at least liked to have seen a modded Lamborghini or something. The Bat was defn overused.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense.

Ok, I changed my mind. :lol

Its not that I don't get the gap, its that I have a hard time stomaching it as something Batman would do, he shouldnt want to give up, its running through TDK and TDKR and its a theme I really hate which is why I prefer BB. In BB he wants to be Batman, he doesn't want to goto parties or get drunk with women, he wants to be on the streets kicking ass. And when he loses things close to him, it drives him even more. THen all the sudden he loses Rachel (not even his woman) and he just quits? I don't and won't buy into it.

I didn't need to see more Joker, I wanted to know he's out there, he escaped and he's going to need to be caught again. It makes his conversation about doing it forever reign true and his overall performance more integral.

I like imagining based on the ending we did got, that Blakes first night out trying to be Batman, the Joker murders his ass with a pipe and Bruce has to come back. :lol

What was in my mind was I wanted this to kick ass. I wanted at worst this to be as good as TDK and hoped it could reach the avengers. What I didn't like about the movie had everything to do with Nolan's execution not me liking marvel.

I'm not saying you didn't like the movie. I'm just talking about the bias of a Marvel fan when seeing a DC film's review. You say it yourself. You "hoped it could reach the Avengers." That means you're watching this film as a Marvel fan who's in love with the Avengers and comparing the two films the entire time with that in the back of your mind. I'm going to guess that you probably have Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and The Avengers all ranked higher don't you?

Well you didn't get it because you think he gave up :lol

He didn't give up - his sacrifice worked - Gotham was at peace, Batman was no longer needed

Exactly, and Gotham was sunshine and Rainbows. I get it, its just a horrible ending for a Batman movie.

Batman no longer needed. Ew. I can barely even type that.

You can't make a movie based on a "realistic scenario" and continue making the hero bullet proof. He had the living ____ beat out of him and his spirit destroyed by the end of TDK. Sure in a comic book he's back and refreshed the very next day, in these movies he's not.

And therein is the fundamental difference between the comics and the Nolanverse

This Bruce Wayne doesn't want to be Batman forever, and Gotham isn't doomed to be perpetually bad so that Batman will always be needed

Anyway each his own, I'm just surprised some of you expected anything different - each and every aspect of Wayne's story in TDKR is seeded in BB and TDK

My first language is french, not my fault I dont make more than a couple sentences of my opinion, it would barely be readable for most of you...This is what happens when Dave choose a N00b as a mod, you dont even know the posters here except if they post in a Batman thread.I could also make you a dissertation in french about why I didnt like the movie though but not sure you could answer in my language with more than a one -liner...

Your English is so bad that you can't type more than a few coherent sentences? Hmm...what a cop out...you just contradicted yourself by typing a perfectly readable post...IN ENGLISH. But seriously, giving you the benefit of the doubt here---why did you avoid void's suggestion? If you have a real thought-out contribution to the discussion ("I could also make you a dissertation in french about why I didnt like the movie") that is too complicated for you to write in clear English...what is stopping you from posting the French version?

For a mod, Void, you really shouldn't be getting into back and forths between other members of the boards. Surely a mod's role is to set an example as well as maintain a purposeful and pleasant community.

I'm gonna step in here and defend void, because apparently to some of you, if he defends himself he is abusing his position as a mod. He said Shai is trolling his opinion with those repeated one-liner, "it sucked"-type, posts. Shai doesn't like getting called out and instead of actually defending his opinion with the reasoning behind it, he cries that void is picking on him as a mod and he's gonna run to tattle to Dave. Abuse as a mod would have been "I don't like your opinion--congratulations, you get an infraction". Saying "I don't like your opinion, I think you're trolling it--here's why" isn't abuse as a mod, you know what it is? It's contributing to the discussion as a fellow poster.

As for the :rotfl:rotfl:lol If you think freaking smilies are abuse, then there is nothing I can say to that except, grow thicker skin.

My .02

You turned it personal when you called him a troll for stating his opinion. Yes, he stated it over and over but just ignore it if you don't like it. This is a discussion thread. Not a TDKR love thread. If it was a TDKR love thread and he was making those type of posts there then yes it would be trolling, but not in an open discussion thread like this.

I get a kick out of the people who love this film having a problem with the people that didn't. I stand by my opinion that this movie is the weakest of the three. It is still a decent movie, but I can't see spending another three hours of my life watching this again.

This movie will not hold up over the test of time for repeated viewings like the first two, especially TDK do. :lecture

Yes void called him a troll...AND he backed up his opinion on why he felt that way. You are right...this IS a discussion thread. What exactly do repeated one-liner "it sucked" posts do to contribute to the discussion? You incorrectly assume that void and others who liked this movie are "having a problem with the people that didn't". There are countless examples of fans of this film engaging in discussion/debate with those that didn't like it. I wouldn't call that "having a problem"....back to your point that this is a discussion board: it is "having a discussion". If someone posts that they hated TDKR and they say why, and a TDKR fan responds to and challenges their points, is that "having a problem" in your opinion?

Agreed. It was overused a bit for me.

The batpod is my all time favourite Nolan vehicle, especially after this film.

One other thing that has me thinking is, why would he tell Catwoman there is no autopilot on the bat? It's not like he has to fool her into thinking he dies, is it? He got with her straight after! Unless i'm missing something?

Also, why did Catwoman double cross him? Because she underestimated Bane and thought Batman would kick his ass? I know she said it was so they wouldn't kill her. I know she was in the middle between Bane and Batman at that point. I also didn't like how easily Bruce forgave her.

Also, if I found out my son in all but name wasn't dead, i'd have had a bit more of a reaction than Alfred did in the cafe? Did he know he wasn't dead before he got to the cafe but Bruce actually being there was the surprise?

I don't know. I need to see it again. As of right now though it's not a patch on TDK. But I knew that before I went in. I still liked the film.

I woke up today feeling a bit underwhelmed by it. I think that's a mix of knowing some big spoilers before I went in and needing to see it again. And the massive hype we had all built up. Nothing lives up to the hype 99% of the time.

I would sadly have to agree.

I wanted to see some Batmobile vs Camo Tumbler action plus more Batman on his feet prowling.

There were some awesome uses of the Bat though.

I like when Batman and Catwoman escaped the rooftop onto the Bat.

In BB people were petrified of Batman - it was all about fear and the criminals being scared. Same was true at the start of TDK when the guys says 'nah man, not tonight'. I didn't get that feeling in this one - he didn't 'prowl' enough and he simply resorted to using the Bat waaaaay too much.

I wasn't expecting anything differant except maybe Bruce actually dying, but I just didn't care for it. It honestly felt to me more like Nolan had a great non Batman idea he wanted to make and made it work within the context of Batman. Yea he got his ass kicked, but his body wasn't wrecked until this one, or we didn't learn about it, he could have always turned it around and became more motivated then ever. Ended with him in the suit overlooking his city. And if they aren't in any real danger anymore it makes Blake's ending pointless.

With all the continuity changes over the years in comics, with all the storylines, with all the one shots, you'd think people would be able to accept another artists take on the character. An arc that has a begninning and an end, something that print will never be able to achieve. Do you guys act like this everytime the story changes in comics?

That's how I wanted it to end.

Picture it, Blake is all pumped and ready to go out on his first night of ass-kicking. Gets to the city, no one left there after the radiation cloud hit Gotham:lol Could make for some interesting mutated villians though...
