I wasn't expecting anything differant except maybe Bruce actually dying, but I just didn't care for it. It honestly felt to me more like Nolan had a great non Batman idea he wanted to make and made it work within the context of Batman. Yea he got his ass kicked, but his body wasn't wrecked until this one, or we didn't learn about it, he could have always turned it around and became more motivated then ever. Ended with him in the suit overlooking his city. And if they aren't in any real danger anymore it makes Blake's ending pointless.

yep, this would have been much better.

One other thing that has me thinking is, why would he tell Catwoman there is no autopilot on the bat? It's not like he has to fool her into thinking he dies, is it? He got with her straight after! Unless i'm missing something?

Also, if I found out my son in all but name wasn't dead, i'd have had a bit more of a reaction than Alfred did in the cafe? Did he know he wasn't dead before he got to the cafe but Bruce actually being there was the surprise?

not sure about the auto pilot thing. With Alfred, we assume some time had passed since the funeral and seeing as they didn't find a body, Alfred prolly suspected Bruce was still alive some how, so I don't think he was all that surprised when his cafe fantasy came true.

With all the continuity changes over the years in comics, with all the storylines, with all the one shots, you'd think people would be able to accept another artists take on the character. An arc that has a begninning and an end, something that print will never be able to achieve. Do you guys act like this everytime the story changes in comics?

The thing is, I can't think of many comics where he completely gives up except TDKR and then of course hes back again in TDKSA. My gripe is at no point in the comics was he Batman for under 2 years total with a decades break and then said, I'm done thanks. I get Nolan wanted out and wanted a trilogy but didn't have to make it end the way he did. It felt more like him saying "There it is, now its this way so I can't come back to do another, it's done" rather then, "this is the way we will leave it, Batman lives on, we just don't get to watch anymore."

I loved how Blake was looking on in awe, watching Batman kick those thugs asses, you know, when Blake nearly gets shot. You could see he was inspired by Batman, then again when he was stood on the bridge with the bus full of kids and Batman was flying the bomb out.

Blake stole the show for me!

He's not even alive anymore in Year 100 and that's one of the best Batman stories in recent memory.

Picture it, Blake is all pumped and ready to go out on his first night of ass-kicking. Gets to the city, no one left there after the radiation cloud hit Gotham:lol Could make for some interesting mutated villians though...

:lol Thats right I forgot that everyone in Gotham gets cancer babies.

Crane trying to contaminate the water supply paled in comparison to Batman's sucess.

No offense buddy, but you wanted it to end like Burton's 89' bat film? Sure it couldve worked well too but this ending wouldn't have blended into the trilogy imo.

Personally I think most of Wayne's decision to fake his death and retire somewhere other than Gotham was because of Alfred's reasoning. He finally got through to him. The fact that he made sure Blake took over as Batman proved he didn't "abandon" Gotham.

Loved those scenes :clap :clap :clap

He was the heart of the film - Bruce was the soul, that's how I look at it right now

Basically yes I wouldn't have had all that much of a problem with something similar, have Blake find the cave goto open the cabinet only to find the suit missing, cut to a far off sillouette of the city at night where we can make out the shape of Batman on top of one of the buildings. Cut to black.

I just really hated the overall reveal that Bruce was still alive, like I said it felt like a Perrier commerical to me. Maybe if it was handled differantly but it's just tough to imagine him with Selina, abandoning Alfred, and he can't be Bruce anymore running the company, donating to Gotham, he's just a regular guy that takes out the garbage, does the dishes, it's too weird for me.

I admit I haven't read it, will see what its all about, but it sounds like its a bit EU to me, where as I prefer Bruce stories.

Completely gives up? I can't find a scan on the internet, but I think you need to check out the last panel again.

Unless you meant gives up being Batman. Yeah, he's not wearing the costume anymore, but he's still fighting the fight.

Yeah they were amazing!

That's a great way of looking at it. To bring someone in to take over as Batman, he needed a good build up and needed to be likeable, I think they achieved in both!

I also like how it looks he will adopt the same no killing rule as Bruce. When he accidentally shot that truck driver, you could see it on his face.

Thats exactly what I mean, but how is he fighting, no one can know Bruce is alive, he can't run his father's company, a new board will probably take over like they almost did in every movie so far we saw, only to be stopped by Bruce's return. He's a regular guy, it kinda reminds me alot and I mean alot of the end of Goodfellas. Seriously just watch this, I can totally imagine that as Bruce word for word.

Over the 8 years he wasnt Batman it made him miserable, now hes just all the sudden ok with it because crime is cured yay! That didn't work with the Harvey Dent act why is going to work now?

I'm not saying you didn't like the movie. I'm just talking about the bias of a Marvel fan when seeing a DC film's review. You say it yourself. You "hoped it could reach the Avengers." That means you're watching this film as a Marvel fan who's in love with the Avengers and comparing the two films the entire time with that in the back of your mind. I'm going to guess that you probably have Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and The Avengers all ranked higher don't you?

You're acting like I'm not a dc fan. I actually like dc as well. I have a comic subscription to batman so I'm not some fanboy just picking sides. Yeah, I did hope it could reach that. I was really looking forward to this movie and hoping it could be that good meant I had high expectations for batman. Yes, I compared the two and I think that's more than fair when you have to of the years mega films. Yes, I do. I thought all of them were better made, better stories, better characters, and more true to the characters. As I said earlier thus batman movie isn't even the best of the series for me. I enjoyed TDK more than TDKR. I enjoy these movies for the movies not because ones marvel and ones dc. I don't fall into that categorie really.

It's a great story that essentially deals with some themes from this film. Batman as a legend and a symbol. Everyone knows Bruce can't live forever, but what about the image he created and what does that mean for a city? No matter what happens in comics you know Bruce is always going to be around so I like a departure story that tackles what happens with what he created.

Well the thing is (and especially with Batman Begins) Nolan really focuses on both the development of the character (Wayne, not Batman) and the events that take place. In the end (TDKR) he should expect to see something of a happy ending imo. I totally knew it was coming cuz from day one I cared to see Wayne live a normal life. Batman was his obsession. Again I will fault Nolan for maybe not following a solid comic source but it is what it is, Wayne lived happily ever after. That's all that matters. And again, he didn't abandon Gotham either. Wayne too was an inexperienced Blake.

In Dark Knight Rises, yeah. But in Dark Knight Returns, he's leading the Batz.

I never said you don't like DC. In fact I said earlier that even if we like both we still pick a side. I'm willing to bet you like Marvel more than DC even if you have a Batman subscription and enjoy the character. I'm also willing to bet that Batman isn't your favorite comic character, which is also probably reserved for a Marvel character. I wouldn't bet, but I'd assume that you probably like all those Marvel films I mentioned more than any of the Nolan Bat films? All these things just naturally create bias in us, conscious or not. You seem to be taking this as an insult though which it's not. My favorite character is Batman, I've enjoyed all three Nolan Bat films more than everything Marvel has put out, I have a bias towards my favorite character. I do enjoy Iron Man and The Avengers, but I don't think they're as good as the weakest of the Batman films because of this bias. You better get on board with this whole bias thing now that Mizzu is in the SEC. Come bowl season you have to be a fan of all teams in the conference as a result.:lol
