IMO there is NO definitive Batman.

Even BTAS or Arkham City to me is just another interpretation, if looked at through the lense of 70+ yrs of history.

Well, they're all interpretations... but I think both BTAS (and its related films) and the ARKHAM games cull a lot more of the key aspects of the Batman mythos than any live action film has come close to doing yet.

Having a few shots of Batman crouching on gargoyles does not negate the fact that Nolan discounted many key aspects of the character and his world.

The Arkham games were more in line with the Batman Animated series. Not so much with the comics though.

That's true. And that's why Batman fans should welcome a reboot (as long as the movies are GOOD and not Schumacheresque).

Schumacher's Batmans were a good exercise in showing exactly which aspects of the comic don't work well on the big screen. It's a very fine line. Along the same lines though, the overcompensation of Nolan's Batman in being Schu's polar opposite, misplaced several key aspects of the character/comics as well. :lol

Maybe not in regards to the supporting characters (and certainly not with many of the designs)... but tonally it was absolutely in line with a lot of the comics. And Batman himself was very much true to the source material, including showcasing ALL of his key talents (hand-to-hand combat, tech, tenacity, and most importantly, detective skills).

Yeah, pretty much. That is the exact opposite end of the spectrum from Nolan.

If someone embraces the comic book aspects but doesn't know how to properly temper it and put it in a respectable context, you get Schumacher. If someone wants to distance it from the comic books as much as possible, you get Nolan. What we need is a right balance in the middle. Something with the tone of BTAS or the Arkham games but translated for live action. This has yet to ever happen, sadly.

Added to the post. :nana: Basically saying what you did, that Schu and Nolan are opposite sides of the same coin.

My quick review.

Awesome perfect? NO.

Good movie and fitting end? YES.

All good except:
STILL couldn't understand 75% of what Bane was saying.

Perhaps the score cranked up to 11 didn't help either...just a tad loud and overwhelming at times when it didn't need to be.
I mean, I could barely understand and hear Gordon in this either lol

But for the first time, Batmans voice didn't bug me as much, and I could understand him. Go figure.

Bugged me a bit that after 3 big movies, we're still dealing with the same main family of bad guys and their agenda with Gotham, and it's now take two, minus Ra's.

Needed a bit more Batman still for me. Maybe a little more helpful gadgets would have helped instead of just walking into trouble with Bane with nothing but fists lol

Overall great movie! :clap

Well, I wouldn't say the SAME coin. Nolan actually made some good movies. :lol

Good movies yes. And while I still think BB is the best Batman movie to date, the series had it's own issues. Nolan did the exact opposite in TDK and TDKR that Schu did in Forever and B&R, by moving further away from the source material.

Agreed with all of that.
