Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Bane used Riddler to test Batman and that Bane had Riddler gunned down. Bane is a lot smarter than you give him credit for. He tested Batman out in every way possible for a year and used your guy Riddler like a chunk of meat and with smarts. Then had him gunned down leaving Batman to rescue him and then have Riddler in a long recovery.

I think Nolan has a good idea picking Bane as a villain. He has a lot of depth to him other than venom and brute strength.
:lecture
Bane isnt just some brainless steroid junkie which several people seem to view him as. He's brilliant and can easily take batman to his limits. I have no doubts that Nolan/Hardy will make him an extremely compelling character.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Yeah...scarecrow deserved better than to be defeated by katie holmes.

I know right. I still laugh when I get to that part of Begins. Granted he was a pawn being used by Ra's, but I was seriously ready for him to start making his way around Gotham terrorizing people forcing Batman to have to find him once he dealt with Ra's.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

nygma, your riddler fetish is getting old real fast. that guy is a loser alright? no one likes him and you need to move on.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

coming from a batfan i rather have bane everytime i see ridder it reminds me of jim carrey and i hated that performance

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I didn't mind Jim Carrey's Riddler... I really hated Tommy Lee Jones's Two Face. UGH that sucked.

All the more reason to have a decent portrayal to think of instead. :D I think it is kinda funny because I remember alot of people being excited about the possibility of Riddler at the end of TDK.

Can somoene please tell me what the appeal of Bane is? He orchestrated an "asylum break" wore Bats down by throwing a dozen villains at him (all while he has a cold mind you) and then steps in and breaks his back. Whoopdeedoo.

The only reason I'm excited about Bane is I think that Nolan will make him a much better character than he is in comics and I think Nolan could do the same for Riddler.

The appeal is that Bane is the complete match for Batman. He orchestrated that break to study him and his moves and wear him down in the process. He didnt just go to wear him down. He went to study Batman like a lab rat. He did crack down to finding out Batman's identity through his process. Not only that but establish who he was in the running for Gotham. Bane hasn't been explored and in Nolans world it makes sense to now give Batman someone with the brute strength and the brains to take down Batman. Im not going to try and guess how Nolan will utilize him or adapt the character for the films he has set up.

Im more surprised that you and Nygma are stuck with the Riddler as your point of interest when there is so much more in the Batman rouges gallery.

I think the key is that Nolan hasn't failed with his last 2 Batman films and as a Batman fan he has brought the characters back to a lot of ground roots within reasonable reality. Why dock this choice? It is what it is and this is the character we have to look forward too.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I guess my thing is that with the way Bane is drawn it detracts from his intellect. I would be much more impressed if he was drawn as a character who in no way could ever take down Bats without doing all he did. When I read Knightfall and got to the part when Bane defeated Batman I was really disappointed. It seemed much more like a lion swooping in to deliver the killing blow to a gazelle that a pack of hyenas had pretty much already killed.

I'm actually not stuck with the riddler. He's not the character I wanted to see. I was hoping for a gang war between Two-Face and either Penguin or Black Mask. I just don't think people are being fair in putting down Riddler. It's like you said, Nolan has done well with the last two movies and I think he could make Riddler an excellent character, had he chosen to do so.

In regards to Bane, I'm not at all unhappy with that choice. I'm actually looking forward to it because I think Nolan will improve the character in my viewpoint. Personally, I hope he plays up the aspects of Bane you mentioned. That's why the size of the actor doesn't bother me at all. They can put him on screen exactly as he is, make him shorter than Batman, and use his wits to wear Bats down to go in for the kill and I'd love it. By that same token if Nolan does go for a more comic book approach, I think its still going to be a very interesting portrayal.

For me it doesn't matter who the villain is or what the plot is going to be, I think Nolan will do a good job. He may not. He's not infallible, but I'm familiar with three of his movies and I love all three, (and I've only heard good things about Inception) so that's not a bad record.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I think that Bane is an awesome character with a lot more to him as with the way he was written and brought out into the Batman world. But then Batman did get Bane in another round with Vengeance of Bane. Which I thought was a pretty damn good 2 part story. I do get your thoughts more clearly :duff

This sums it up for me - end of the day, had he chosen Riddler or even Killer Croc or Mr Freeze, ANYONE, I would have simply been excited to see his take on it
