Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Well, it's safe to assume Nolan WANTS to shoot everything in IMAX, whether it's feasible or not. He loves it and already knows how to refit IMAX Cameras to do just this.

My Guess is MOST of the Film will be shot in IMAX.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I was remarking the other day, I feel bad for Nolan, he's going to be all excited to unveil and premier Inception and I guarantee half the reporter comments will be prodding him about the next Batman. I just hope he sticks it out for a 3rd and doesn't back out not wanting to be in Batman's shadow forever.

Sad but true (on the reporters).

I think he has grand plans to close out the Nolan trilogy, i hope i'm right:D

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I think he has big plans to, but a large part of that being wrapping up his involvement with Batman. I think he's enjoyed the Batman films, but I don't think he wants that to be all he's known for, rightly so, and I would hate to see him not finish a well rounded trilogy just because the press puts too much emphasis on him for that. When he put out The Prestige, sure Begins did well, but it wasn't anywhere near the hype machine of TDK. This is a test of how well he can move on from Batman in the public eye.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Well the true test will be how good Inception is - I think if it is as good as The Prestige, and I think it is likely to be as Nolan's movies are almost always incredibly good, then it will do a lot better financially than The Prestige did, simply because Nolan's profile is now that much greater after the beast that was TDK. And if Inception does well critically as well as financially, then it should get its due in terms of press recognizing Nolan as more than just the Batman guy.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Well I'm hoping the third movie goes back to focusing on Batman, and that the Villain does not steal the show.

Well inception also has Leo going for it, I'm not sure how much Hugh and Bale being in Prestige really helped given the nature of the story with magic and all, but I think with Inception's concept and a marketable name, it should do fine. I want to see it, looks promising.

I too want to see more Batman/Bruce Wayne focus in the 3rd act, like Begins. I'm not sure what you mean by steal the show though. I use that term when a person wasn't meant to be a focal point ends up getting people's attention more than the focal point, but Dark Knight was focused intentionally on Harvey Dent and the Joker. Bruce Wayne and Batman almost took on a Ra's Al Ghul screen presence in TDK, which was my only dissappointment with that movie, but, if the 3rd act returns focus to Batman, then TDK taking a longer look at the rest of Gotham's people works better as a bridging point in the story arc.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I don't mind a villain stealing the show if the performance is going to be anywhere near Heath's Joker

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

My thing is, I really enjoyed the exploration of Bruce Wayne in Begins, i thought it was a really interesting and engaging story. TDK was entertaining, but lacked that character exploration Begins had, and I really want more of that.

I had hopes before seeing TDK that moment like Rachel's death would have more emotional weight to them, but other than the brief mourning shots, it's almost as if it didn't happen, by the time it came to rescuing Reese, he was functioning again. I like that Batman is a get it done, no time to mourn type of hero, but there are also moment where he has humanity to see into. I like watching him come to terms with things.

Now, with the plot that he's now a criminal in the eyes of Gotham, there's a lot that could be explored there, continuing to do the duty despite those feelings towards him.

Whatever Nolan does, it'll be good, I think he's got the formula for how to make great Batman movies, I just have things I hope for him to do with the next one.

I also have a feeling the notion of Avatar style 3D effects being used will be on the table for this next installment, Nolan went with the IMAX camera on TDK to do something interesting visually, it wouldn't surprise me if he considered 3D effects, which if used like Avatar, could really be something, especially if they had more large panning shots like Begins of Batman on rooftops and ledges.

Yeah, that was a bad turn phrase by me. I basically want what you want

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I would have liked to see more depth about the Joker as a character in TDK. I dont feel like we got any kind of understanding to how he became the physcho that he was. I would still like to see some kind of transition from the Joker to whatever criminal we get in the next film. I have a feeling Nolan will at least have some small part of the Joker just to tribute Heath.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I enjoyed the Joker's background being a mystery, i think it made things more interesting, like not knowing how he got the scars and wondering just which story was true, if any. With evil characters, I find them more frightening and disturbing when you don't explain why they do things and they just do them.

Yes! This I agree with what is worse when the first movie creates this badass villain who has a big mystery around his past. Then they do a prequel which explains it all and usually in a crappy manner. I don't think they would do it with this series but you get the idea.

Not knowing where the Joker came from was essential to the character in the film, and in the comics as well.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

One thing I'm confident in too, is that Nolan won't pull a Spiderman 3 and try cramming the classic villains we haven't seen yet into the movie.

In fact, I think any nemesis is open game for being the villain(s) of a 3rd film. I think the choice will be based on how that character(s) lend to the overall story. Ra's Al Ghul and Scarecrow aren'y your mainstream Batman villains, but their characters fit for the story being told. I don't think Nolan and his team feel a sense of being slave to gratifying fanboys by using certain characters in their movies, but rather just go with ones they think make an interesting story, regardless of it being well known or not. Sure the Joker is the most well known Batman nemesis ever, but I still think the nature of the character was necessary for the type of story TDK was, you needed the anarchist to just take Batman's world and totally screw it up.
