Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I would too. Definitely a new Batcave and Batmobile. The script is being written now by John and David. Expect Casting news this Spring/Summer and a shooting Sched this Fall for a 2011 Release.

Superman is also gaining traction at the Studio with Chris acting as a Godfather to the Project.

Wow now i'm getting excited, some momentum building here - but I am quite skeptical that they could make a 2011 release with this? What do you guys think

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

And i'm talking about Batman 3 for 2011, not Superman 3.0 (Nolan involved in a Superman reboot is wonderful news and deserves its own thread)

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

It think July 2011 is easily doable. It's the start of February, if they have the story ready by April/May, you can start casting, aim for shooting September October, pickups in the spring, wrap post production May/June. I think there's plenty of time. Unless they went for 3D effects, many of the effects in Batman are real so you don't need as much CGI time in post as other movies.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Hmmm, reason I was skeptical was that filming for TDK was well underway by Summer 2007, and it needed a full year to get to theaters. But I suppose its certainly possible that they make Summer 2011, just need it to gather some serious pace and as you say, have a final scipt within a couple of months and then casting.

Also i'm sure WB will be keen to get it out there by Summer 2011, so TDK is still relatively fresh in audiences minds (not that its a movie anyone would/should ever forget) compared to the following summer.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I think it'll make 2011 and it'll essentially release like the Star Wars trilogies with a 3 year gap in between.

I would think the writing is off to a decent start, as all the rumor mills have said that there was a 3 part story arc pre planned out all along so presumably the foundation is already set for where this story will go and it's a matter of writing it. For all we know, a fair ammount of writing may have been tinkered with already with anticipation and now that Inception is coming out, it's time to focus and finish that work instead of just playing with ideas.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I can't help but fantasize about what Hot Toys will give us following Batman 3... just how much they have improved 2008-2009 is mind boggling, to think what we could see late 2011 / early 2012 is just too much for me! haha

Yes. Basic Script in Spring, Chris can revise in Pre if needed. Major new casting Spring. That gives him 5-6 Months lead time to build new sets (Batcave, Batmobile, etc.) Principal Photography this fall. Added Scenes thru Feb. 3-4 months for post. They already have the Imax Cams built, don't know if they can do 3D on set, prolly in Post, which is a layered 3D, but I'm guessing Chris will stay with Imax.

I have absolutely NO idea who the Villains will be, but I'm Guessing Selena (Zoe Zaldana?) a Master Villain (Black Mask? David likes him) and a Side Villain, Penguin or Riddler, although Chris said he'll never do Penguin, PSH could do an amazing Caricature. We'll see...

I'm with pjam, I think Saldana would make a great Catwoman, her tough and fiesty personality mixed with her seductive qualities would be perfect.

I'm sure they'll be back, but I really hope that Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard will be back to score, their work on Begins and TDK is just great and some of my favorite score work. If they're back, and the next film is about redemption, I can forsee some really cool new themes emerging.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Batman 3 won't come out in 2011. The Green Lantern is set to shoot in March with a June 17th target open. Batman 3 has no script, no real casting other than returning characters. It'd have to be fasttracked beyond belief with script approved, cast set and greenlit within 30 days? WB wants a Batman tentpole in the summer. I'd say a 2012 date is more believable and/or realistic. Although having Superman and Batman both showing in the summer of 2012 would definitely keep Marvel on their toes...

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

As long as Robyn never makes an appearance it should be good. Although no matter who is in it I don't think it will be as good as TDK to me just because I like the Joker character so much.

Well again, this is why i'm very skeptical about a Summer 2011 release. Although having GL and Batman 3 the same summer would be just awesome!

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Ok well we all know DC is going to say wat there plans are..and were getting some news.. is it starting to look lik its Summer of 2011-Green Lantern? SUmmer 2012-Batman3 then possibly Superman ? is that correct?

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Batman on Film said:
They did caution me not to expect an official announcement until this Summer. However, with this latest news regarding Nolan and the writing of the script becoming public, that may change things.

If this is true that wipes 2011. There is no way in hell they are going to greenlight the film in the summer to be ready by next summer especially since Nolan likes to take his time and get it right. I would imagine that if its greenlit in the summer with serious casting and characters announced that it wouldn't start shooting until 2011 at the earliest.

I have a feeling, a really strong one that Superman and Batman will both be the DC/WB Stronghold for 2012's summer. There are even rumors grumbling about that the Green Arrow film that has been in limbo for a while might get fasttracked for 2013 as well as the Flash film which were both previously Goyer projects...

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Or people could just let the Joker go :banghead

Heath gave a great performance, without question, he was very entertaining and all, but there's no need for any significant participation of the Joker in the next film.

I'd like to see him mentioned in some capacity, maybe a comment from Gordon, or I had an idea of closing the film out like Begins in a way, some incident at Arkham with him escpaing and some clue like a Joker card left behind to taunt Batman, but I don't want him to have any relevance to the story. Even if Ledger were alive, the Joker story has been told, a clue here or there to remind viewers that he's not dead, like most villains in a superhero movie, and still a threat in Gotham to Batman.

I really want to see the third film go back to focusing on the hero story with the villain being more a plot device driving his actions like Begins.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I find it difficult to believe that Nolan will even bother with the Joker again other than reference. There are so many Batvillains left undone and remember that throughout both films Batman's main villain was always the Mob. It was in the background all through the Ras storyline and Joker was an instrument of it. I see Nolan realistically keeping that alive moving the mob there as the big baddie with whatever Rogue coming in an instrument of redemption for Batman himself.
