Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

agreed. there are lots of potential for the next film to go even bigger than TDK.

in miller's DKR, gordon knows who batman is. that's how close the relationship has gotten between the two. batman being hunted down by the gotham police(as well as seen as national security risk) was also explored in that book. if you need to read just one bat book, that's the one to read. best bat book ever written. and that's not just me saying that.

DKR is also set after batman's retirement & yeah, that is one of the best fights ever

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Maybe Nolan can draw inspiration on the many Batman: Black and White short stories? There are a lot of realistic stories there which can be applied to Nolan's verse. :)

...what our friend is telling us is that there may be some BATMAN 3 location scouting going on in Chicago. Stay tuned, this is only the beginning!

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Makes sense, in working the story, I'm sure it would pay off to scout locations for ideas, to get a handle on what will or won't be possible to do for the movie instead of writing things that'll be to hard to achieve, if possible at all.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I finid this bit very promising for Batman 3 to be what I hope it to be.

The key thing that makes the third film an great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story. And in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story…I’m very excited about the end of the film, the conclusion, and what we’ve done with the characters. My brother has come up with some pretty exciting stuff. Unlike the comics, these thing don’t go on forever in film and viewing it as a story with an end is useful. Viewing it as an ending, that sets you very much on the right track about the appropriate conclusion and the essence of what tale we’re telling.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

A further quote suggests that we shouldn’t expect a team-up of Batman and Superman, at least from Nolan. The LAT describes Nolan’s Batman films as creating a world in which Batman is the only hero, and that is expected for Superman as well. “Each serves to the internal logic of the story,” says Nolan. “They have nothing to do with each other.”

so can we put that to rest then?

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I would think so, I can't imagine WB arguing with Nolan's stance, he's a cash cow for them, it wouldn't serve them well to piss him off forcing him to tie the two together if they think it should happen when he doesn't.

Agreed.
Nolan wrapping up his story in 3 installments keeps everything neat & tidy = same actors/filmmakers/production values and allows him a definitive end - no cliff hangers, no questions going forward regarding future sequels. This also opens the door for another director/cast for reboots or using Batman in other films in the future (Justice League, etc.).

Also - it should make a sweet box set. :D

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

What I like most is, my hopes were that part 3 would be a conclusion to the growth story of Bruce/Batman that has been going over the first 2, and it sounds like 3 should deliver on that.

I still say it's Nolan's greatest asset as a director in the genre, he approaches it like a non-comic film with a focus on a compelling story and then drops the comic designs within that.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Very interesting article and I'm very excited about this movie...ahhh...the possibilities... I honestly believe we could see the best trilogy in hollywood history. Perhaps only rivalled by LOTR. That is the extent of the challenge Nolan has - but I think he can live up to it.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I think when it's over, this will certainly be one of my all-time favorite movie series, Begins and TDK are already top movies for me. I'd love to see Nolan just keep making them, but I'll consider myself lucky that we got a completed trilogy out of him.

Just curious - what do you envision as a proper conclusion to his "growth story?" I guess I would say - a hero who is comfortable in his role and mission and redeemed in the eyes of the city he protects.

X2. His high standards for story, character design, and production definately seperate him from others in the genre. I love what he's brought to Batman.

Well for one, Batman's arc needs to come around that he's a hero to Gotham, not some semi-liked vigillante in the public eye, not a wanted criminal, but the savior of the city, where Gotham wants that Bat signal going up when trouble arises, not just Gordon.

I also think there's inner conflict with Bruce that needs wrapping up. First he lost all faith in justice, then he came to realize what true justice is and took it upon himself to deliver it, but then he realized that taking on that responsibility has a price on his life, like Rachel not being with him, and likely never being able to have a full time love life, or the fear of losing close ones like Alfred because of ties to him. TDK left of with the realization that Gotham needs a hero like Batman, that just because someone like Dent comes along, doesn't mean he can walk away, but, we haven't seen a story play out with him embracing and acting on that, it just got started so I'm eager to see where that goes.

I'm happy that we're at least getting three out of him. I mean for me its cause of how he's done these that my interest in Batman has gone up. Begins was a solid movie one I do enjoy watching but TDK was a great flick with very solid story telling. I'm excited to see how he will approach closing this out with a nice ribbon on top.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I hope we get more of Gotham's underbelly like Begins. The Narrows scenes and the Arkham stuff were really ineteresting visually. While TDK had explosive action and quality acting, the visuals weren't as interesting as Begins to me. The lighting in the more creepy locations in Begins and the gargoyle shots of Batman with the cape flowing set against some interesting backdrops was really beautiful to me visually. TDK set him against too many common settings. I'd also like to see more gargoyle type shots of him watching over the city, the one shot in TDK didn't have the same visual impact, it's cool, but I prefer the ones from Begins, especially when he hunts down the drugs in the Narrows and it starts with a shot of him, cape flapping in the wind. I really like the visual portrayal of Batman as a creature, which Begins did. Even though the suit is refined from TDK, you can still depict him in a creature way.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I hope they can blend the two. I dont know if I'd want it to sway more back to how begins was done just because I prefer the route taken with TDK.
