Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I wonder if the IMAX is part of the delay, I'm sure the technology's been improved over the past few years, but it seems like the IMAX cams can be taxing for production, maybe they need a lot of time for some of the shots.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Really? This would be amazing! :google

From my post a few pages back...

Bits from DP Wally Phister and pending July Announcement.

The fact that there will be another Batman film in Christopher Nolan’s presumptive trilogy is assumed by just about everyone, despite the fact that there has been no formal announcement of the film. But in the runup to the release of Nolan’s Inception, which opens on July 16, there is already some talk about what the next Batman film might look like.

Wally Pfister is the cinematographer responsible for all of Christopher Nolan’s features from Memento on, and his photography was one of the things I liked best about The Dark Knight. He captured Chicago-as-Gotham with a simplicity and clarity that was very uncharacteristic of most superhero films. Now he’s talking about possibilities for the third film, including the option of 3D. Hint: don’t expect Batman 3D.
Cinematical spoke to Pfister when the Dallas Film Society presented him with the Star Award for accomplishments in cinematography. The site promises a full interview in which Pfister explains the “mutual disinterest” he and Christopher Nolan have for 3D. But they do quote him saying,

What Chris and I have talked about is doing something cool and something interesting…Brad Bird was [saying] ‘you’ve got to shoot the whole thing in IMAX!’ I was like, yeah, I’ve talked to Chris about that.

There’s also another comment, which seems to refer to shooting more of this upcoming film in IMAX:

But I think Chris is game for doing something interesting like that, Lord knows that the 3-D fad might pass by the time that summer comes around.

AICN, meanwhile, got a few more of Pfister’s comments from a tipster. Both the cinematographer and Nolan are disinterested in digital cinematography and very much prefer to shoot on film. That’s the root of their disinterest in 3D, which Pfister said is “great for like amusement park rides like the ‘Honey I Shrunk The Kids’ ride at Disneyland.” Pfister also called 3D a distraction and not realistic.

The appeal of IMAX and the disinterest in 3D both come from that love of shooting on film. While 3D lacks realism, shooting in IMAX has huge latitude, and captures incredible detail. The downside to IMAX is that the cameras are bulky and loud, and the format is expensive.

FYI, Batman on Film is saying that Warner Bros. will officially announce the third Batman film in July. Which isn’t that much of a deductive leap, as Nolan hasn’t been interested in talking about Batman while he finishes Inception, and that movie is released in July. Plus, there’s that little Comic Con gathering in San Diego. So expect more news in July.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

i'm so glad nolan will be directing the 3rd part. i'd hate for another burton -> schumacher style crossover of styles. although i doubt nolan would have let things get quite that far even if he weren't directly directing.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Yep, Nolan needs to complete this trilogy of complete bliss for a lifelong Bat-Freak like me! He took my favorite comic character of all time and showed him the respect his story deserves and in some cases, elevated it to a new level. Cant wait to see how he wraps this up.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

When Nolan's done, I'm sure the next Batman will go in directions that will let some people down, or who knows, someone could make movies that make us forget Nolan ever even made Batman films.

I'm just glad part 3 will be made by him, Burton's films didn't really feel like a tied storyline, but Nolan's movies have continuation and you really need the 3rd act, it's a larger, 3 part story and it would have been a shame if we only ever got 2 parts, or the 3rd was handled by someone else and not a proper close to Nolan's work.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

But anyway you look at it, it's a shame WB lost the 2011 Summer Window for either DK or Supes. They should have had at least one ready for 2011 and the other ready for 2012.

Yeah it sucks that we'll have to wait that long, but next year Marvel has some big names being released and maybe WB just doesn't want that kind of competition...especially with Superman trying to come out of a slump.

i don't know man. 2012 is probably going to be even bigger for marvel, with the avengers and the spiderman reboot. if anything, those are likely to be more hardhitting than thor or captain america. i doubt WB will be worried about any form of competition at all. i bet just based on the nolan batman track record, it will be one of the most anticipated films of ALL time.

i'm a massive fan of the burton movies, and they hold a special place for me. the nolan batman is a different batman. i love them both.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

True that!!! I just ordered the two Burton Batmans on Blu the other week. They rock...plain and simple. I know I'll be taking off of work so I can go see all of these movies at midnight!!!!

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Hey guys guess what just dawned on me? Between Hot Toys, Mattel, & DCD I must have dropped some where in the negiborhood of $5,000.00 on TDK.

If Nolan's 3rd installment is as kick ass as......well..... KICK ASS, then its gonna mean the new movie is gonna cost us collectors a FREAKING FORTUNE!!! & I got a feeling the 3rd movie is gonna center on "bat-tech" more so than the villian.

I weep at the loss of $$$$

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I just stick with Hot Toys. :D

oh man, the burton films really look amazing in HD don't they? the colours are so vibrant in the first, and the lighting so crisp in returns. i got the box set, although i'm not sure why. maybe i thought i'd want to see the schmuacher fiascos one day. i just managed to sit through forever in about 3 sittings. what a nightmare.

in fact, they should have used that in TDK. one of the joker's little stories. "wanna know how i got these scars? i watched the schumacher batman movies, and thought i'd never smile again. so i did this to myself."

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

They haven't arrived yet, but review's give the Picture Quality for Batman a solid 4/5 stars and Returns 4.5/5 stars. I skipped the set hoping to just get the first two eventually, and I'm glad it paid off. Batman Forever is OK and only worthwhile to watch to reminisce about my junior high school days, but Batman and Robin will never touch any of my DVD/ Blu Ray players.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Great news, and well worth the wait.

Gives me a couple years break before I buy any collectibles as well.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

The first two films have been quite good. Begins was a nice start followed by what I think is one of the better comic book movies around in TDK. Its a nice mix of a fun ride and very good story telling. So I have very high hopes for this 3rd film.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Good news that he's found a story that excites him and also that he won't replace Heath. Also about it wrapping up and not having a cliffhanger ending. Even if they go forward with a fourth movie and no Nolan, at least we'll be able to feel like we have a complete trilogy and some closure to this Batman.

Yep, hearing all of that makes me very happy.
