Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

They have a history but most of it was Modern Age inserted. Ras Al Ghul does not have ties directly with Batman or even Ducard originally that all came later. Hell originally Bruce tried to be a cop before becoming Batman. B:TAS did insert a lot of that but I would wager that the Animated series or the various ones that have come over the years are not being looked at in terms of fodder for the films. They usually are their own continuity so you can't apply that anyway but the animated series...

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

OH ok. Now see this is a good example of what I'm talking about when it comes to retooling a comic movie. the source material is endless in incarnations & storylines. But something like who, what, when, & where did Bruce learn to be Bats is something thats not a main focal point of the batman mythos.....thus it can be tweeked to a greater degree than something like what qualifies a person to bare a GL ring.

some things you can mess with

& some things you just can't.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Yes and No. There are sacreds in comic histories like Batman parents are killed when he is a boy, Superman is the last survivor of Krypton, Hal Jordan watches his father dies in a fiery crash, Barry Allen is hit by lightning while working in the crime lab, etc. That aren't usually changed but the circumstances before/after and sometimes even during (ala the Joker killing them in Burton's Batman) can be screwed with. Its depends on the focal point of the story. For example, the focal point of The Green Lantern will be Hal Jordan's story so that won't be screwed with too much to keep an anchor, everything else though is completely up for grabs as we saw with First Flight and as I would wager will be the case for the big screen movie.

well 1st I'll adress you 1st Flight comment over in the GL movie thread. But as for the general comic movie question of what is or is not sacred-sent. What you 1st spoke of is who our hero comes to find him or her a crime fighter. But the "sacred-sent" dose not end there!! The iconic image, as well as motive & purpose are all sacred-sent.

What DRIVES Batman to do the things he dose. What inner demons must he contend with in terms of enacting justice vs vengence. How far can he go before he loses him self to the "Darkness" that once served his agenda.

Monkey around with any of the above mentioned character arch's & you will find your self with a big steaming pile of pooh on your hands.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I would argue that it isn't sacred. Image certainly isn't preserved as each film incarnates their own look to the heroes. Motive and purpose isn't as well. In the comics Bruce Wayne was driven to become Batman because he felt the Police had their hands tied by red tape and could never fully protect its citizens, that is from Batman's creator Bob Kane. In the West series, Burton film even in the Nolanverse where Batman returns to be a symbol of justice in a city that needs it, that is overrun by corruption. So that isn't kept commonplace. Justice vs. Vengeance is even left vague in the Burton films where people still argue whether or not he actually caused the death of the Joker. Losing himself to the darkness is definitely a modern thing taken from the books where Bruce would rather be Batman 24/7 but needs the Wayne persona whilst in the films for the most part he had no problem with the duality.

The Character Arcs are monkey'd around with plenty from page to screen, always have been, always will be. Sometimes it works and the fans accept it (some even spewing it as if the films, cartoons or tv shows were canon) and sometimes they don't but then that is always the risk of trying to take something with so much history and compacting it into 2 hours.

Umm, sorry but what you just did what shift back & forth from motive to character. You spoke of Bruce coming back as a symbol. Well that of course is true & all. BUT...THATS NOT A MOTIVE. He come back as a symbol right??? WELL WHY???

Its not what he dose per say that sacred, but WHY! there is a big difference. & yes, Burton did indeed cover justice vs vengeance. Keaton did an incredible job of coveying the pain & sense of loss over his parents murder. Hell, even the freakin SUPERFRIENDS had Batman cry in that eps where the Scarecrow leads him in to crime ally.

How ever I will agree that Batman's look is much more customizable than Sups or WW. BUT then again that gose right back into who the man is. He's not interested in a flashy costume. He dose his thing in darkness & leave the scene for others to hog the glory. So for him his look directly reflect his work. If the day ever comes his cape is of no use......its history. Oh who am I kidding :lol no one would ever be that foolish. But you get my point

I hope.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

wow, if there selling 31 mins now I can't wait for the ultra deluxe dvd to hit stands. It must be loaded with hours of extras.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

What is "bonus content?" is that additional scenes or just some new documentary or tv interviews or something lame like that?

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Well,to hold us over,DC has included 31 minutes of never before seen footage on digital copies of TDK on itunes, amazon on demand, and on demand channels.

https://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/Poniverse/news/?a=19154

That's my chief complaint with TDK, very little bonus material on the DVD, I don't get why, I thought Begins was pretty good, though not the best, better than average still, but TDK was very lackluster, pretty much just the movie.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

No,I think it is ACTUAL footage that didn't make it into the film.I really hope that Warner does something like the Ultimate Collector's Edition's with Nolan's Batman,if not now, then maybe when B3 comes out. Some examples:

CAPITAL IDEA BATS!!! I would die for a TDK collector set like that. Jesus.....I'm so obsessed with this film & with Heath I just don't know what to do with myself at times.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

I own the Superman and Dirty Harry sets(which are AMAZING!),and I must say that I'd pretty much die also for Nolan's Batman in a UCE.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

A couple of tidbits probably already mentioned...

Christopher Nolan to Shoot Batman 3 Starting in March 2011?
Posted on Thursday, June 10th, 2010 by Russ Fischer

Briefly: Just as we’re talking about rumors of the casting for Christopher Nolan’s third Batman movie, there’s word on the start date for the film’s production. In a rather offhand comment in the LA Times Hero Complex blog (via The Film Stage), Geoff Boucher mentions that he’ll be interviewing Nolan this weekend, and plans to asking him about Batman 3, “which starts shooting in March.”

That’s the first we’ve heard of a start date for the film, which already has a planned release date of July 20, 2012. We don’t know if the LAT has hard and fast info about the schedule, if that is a projected start date, etc. We’ll update when possible.

Re: Batman/Dark Knight 3rd Film

Cher pffft! as if! Nolan said I was a shoe in for Cat Woman. But do me a favor & don't spread it around.
