Re: The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight can't rise if he dies :dunno

If the title is a metaphor then he can

The Dark Knight could be a metaphor for 'the night is darkest just before the dawn'

So Rises could mean that evil is defeated and therefore the night rises like a fog lifts, leaving light behind

Also if Batman becomes a martyr he could 'rise' in the eyes of all the citizens

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

There is a special scale of rhetard reserved for anyone that entertains the idea that they'd allow Batman to be killed off.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I guess he's due for a nice bath in the Laz Pit.

Then again losing a cowl without a head inside may not be fatal.....

They probably just chose the dark knight rises so they wouldn't have to change the name for the porn parody.

Let's hope so. There's quite a few people that are hell bent on the idea.

"HE'S GOTTA DIE, HE'S GOTTA DIE!"

That is a pretty narrow minded view :cuckoo:

If WB can kill Batman in the comics (only to bring him back by rebooting the DCU), then Nolan can kill him on film too. :wave

And again I point out, I don't believe Batman will be killed off in TDKR, i'm just merely pointing out it IS possible.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Realistically he won't be killed off. Maybe batman finally does but not Bruce Wayne. I have a feeling this will borrow from a killing joke

Yeah which again as i've said, I don't think it will happen. I think it will borrow from a number of sources but looks like it'll be mainly Knightfall and The Dark Knight Returns.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Batman can die in this series. Know why? Cuz it ends after Nolan finishes. And then a new Bat series will come out.

That's exactly why Bruce Wayne won't die. Because they wanna reboot the series and the last thing WB and DC want is to start anew with that memory in people's minds. This movie will have a positive ending that will carry over positively with the reboot. Trust me.

I don't understand this.

:exactly:

I have never automatically labeled a movie "depressing" just because a main character dies.

Like I said, I don't believe he will die in this movie, but I think it could be done beautifully.

:lol Wow.

Gotta say, I haven't seen that sentiment. But I did bow out of this thread for quite a while. :dunno

Narrow minded, no. Logical, yes.

Comic market = niche market that understands how comics go. There is not a single person on this planet that actually thought Batman was really dead. Deaths are just a cheap trick in the comics industry to stimulate sales with a new print coming out every month before pulling a mulligan. You can't do that in film.

Movie market = mass audience with the majority not giving a ____ about or having even read a comic. Batman dies on film and the first thing they'll say with a reboot is I thought they killed Batman? I still remember standing in the line to buy tickets for Batman Begins and the people in front of me asking what number Batman is this and who's playing Batman this time? The confusion and awfulness of the last few films is why Begins had such ____ty box office and killing Batman would just add to that confusion in the future.

Now lets look at Nolan's approach to film where he has openly stated he wants each film to stand on it's own. He did it with Begins. He did it with TDK. Has he changed his mind for TDKR? Not to mention how do you kill Batman in this film and have that story line make sense as a stand alone film?

Let's branch out even further now, into comic book films in general. Someone give me one example of a major comic character ever dying on film. It has very literally never happened and if you think Nolan has so much power now that he's been given free range to kill off the most popular comic book movie character around you've really gone off the deep end.

Which brings me full circle back to comics. Has Batman ever REALLY died? Seriously, truly died? Last time I checked Bruce is still around and Batman is still kickin' ass. Why is that?

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I'm just sayin..this series ends. If WB is smart, the next film will be set in some crazy comic world with new crazy looking characters.

Batman could be anything by the end of the movie. Dead. Burned. Handicapped. Gay. A Goat. Ash Williams.

Point is. This series will end. It will never continue. And then a new Batman will arise.
