Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Are either of those characters Batman or Spiderman? Were either of those films called Joker or Harry Osborne? Are either of those characters the hero? Do I need to go on?

But you said: "Someone give me one example of a major comic character ever dying on film"

All we're doing is answering your question, sheesh :lol

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Cyclops.

Have they killed off the main character? No. Because they can't make more money with sequels.

But...they're not making any more Nolan Verse sequels. So it can end any way it wants.

When their name is in the title and they are the focus of the film was just more to type than simply stating main character.

Like I said the vast majority of a film going audience has no idea who Nolan is. Batman will be alive when the credits role. Guaranteed.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

It's unlikely that Nolan will kill off Batman, but to call people retarded for saying it's a possibility is a little extreme, no?

Movie market = mass audience with the majority not giving a ____ about or having even read a comic. Batman dies on film and the first thing they'll say with a reboot is I thought they killed Batman? I still remember standing in the line to buy tickets for Batman Begins and the people in front of me asking what number Batman is this and who's playing Batman this time? The confusion and awfulness of the last few films is why Begins had such ____ty box office and killing Batman would just add to that confusion in the future.

I remember that two.

I think people are a little more savvy when it comes to "reboots" now though. Plus I would argue that killing Batman would make it pretty self-explanatory to people that any future Batman series are not related to Nolan's.

Now lets look at Nolan's approach to film where he has openly stated he wants each film to stand on it's own. He did it with Begins. He did it with TDK. Has he changed his mind for TDKR? Not to mention how do you kill Batman in this film and have that story line make sense as a stand alone film?

You just do. I guess I don't understand the question.

Let's branch out even further now, into comic book films in general. Someone give me one example of a major comic character ever dying on film. It has very literally never happened and if you think Nolan has so much power now that he's been given free range to kill off the most popular comic book movie character around you've really gone off the deep end.

Which brings me full circle back to comics. Has Batman ever REALLY died? Seriously, truly died? Last time I checked Bruce is still around and Batman is still kickin' ass. Why is that?

No one has ever made a real-world film version of a comic book character before, so old rules don't apply IMO.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I still like the idea he might die.

It adds suspense for the first time in a super hero flick. :D

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I think Batman is going to dress Bane up as him and blow his ass up sky high, hence why Bane had to be similar in size to Wayne.

No, because I'm not calling anyone a retard. I said there is a special scale of rhetard (quoting Alan from Hangover) for anyone entertaining the idea. In the most colloquial sense of the word there is a scale like your average Likert scale of naive stupidty reserved especially for such an illogical thought which of course slides depending on the degree in which your sense wanes.

I think we hang out and around a very small group of people in the loop with these things and often times don't remember how large a population we exist in that really have no clue and will continue to have no clue. They're just along for the ride.

You just do. I guess I don't understand the question.

Meaning to say that you can't have a stand alone film by killing Batman and have it make sense when his death would only quasi make sense in the context of the previous films and the journey that Batman has made to now.

The rules of money will always apply. How can we make the most? By not killing Batman for starters!

Thank you. The possibility is certainly there in my mind and I've definitely not gone off the deep end

With respect to your post wofford - pretty much agree with Mags response

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I can't wait until the movie ends with a shot of Batman over looking Gotham and everyone will be in here still saying he really died and it was Harvey Dent in the suit.
