Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I had no problem with Ra's being used in the first one, but more could've been done with him.

And no I wouldn't buy Black Mask based on the princible that I don't like the character.

And thankfully this is why Nolan does not listen to fans and does what he wants. Because he knows how many close minded people won't even give something a chance if its not theyre own perfect way. The best thing he can do is take a character/actor masses don't want, make it awesome, and throw it back in your faces.

We clammored for Riddler and JGL, he definately heard us, and he said no.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

And guess what folks, you same whiney little hos are gonna be spending all your money on Black Mask or w/e action figures from Hot TOys b4 you know what hit you. mark my words.

I won't.

I've already vowed that if it's Black Mask I won't buy a single piece of merchandise that features him even if he's great in the movie.

I didn't do that ____ with Ledger. I was more or less like everyone else, "him?!?!?!:rotfl, this might suck. I can't really see it working" BUT it was still the Joker and everyone was speculating and having fun regardless. Sure looking back people looked like idiots but who could blame them? This guy had just done Brokeback Mountain and wasn't known for roles like this. As soon as I heard the teaser I was opening up more to it and the first trailer blew me away.

But Black Mask is a completely different animal. It's a character I don't care about, don't like and not interested in seeing. I don't want to see him and if he is in it my focus is going to completely shift to Batman and the story, which I'd probably do anyway.

Are you REALLY that pissed off cause I stated I don't like Black Mask?:dunno

Yea guess what chief, I didn't care about Dave Bowman, or Alexander Delarge, or Rick Deckard, or Daniel Planeview either before I saw the movies, but I sure wasn't crazy enough to say it will be garbage I do not care about before I even knew what I was judging.

Not pissed off at all, Im sitting here looking out the window listening to music and smoking a bowl if you must know. Pretty content, just think its stupid for someone to not even give something a chance especially given the track record of Nolan.

Well, I'm assuming you didn't just discover them recently and that when they were first released, THEN you saw them.

I know about Black Mask and I don't like him. Those characters you mentioned are one shots and aren't featured in other media. When those first came out we didn't have the luxury of looking at the character of Deckard under a microscope. We had to go see the film to understand and like him.

I've seen Black Mask in comics, The Batman and other sources and I don't like him. He could be better in the film, but he'd have to be different. And if he is completely different from the ____ I've seen and read, why bother adapting him?

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I can see how people wouldn't like Black Mask, but he is just about the perfect villain for a third act Nolan Batman movie.

What have I not given a chance? You act like the movie is already out and I'm refusing to see it.

Thats my point, people are predisposed to hate this character already and admitting they no little or nothing about him, not just you. Its just a shame, you should wait and see how Nolan and Hardy make the character theyre own instead of saying I don't like his history.

Fab, I tell you buddy, I said exactly the same about Heath. "I don't care if he's good I can't have a Heath Ledger figure in my room, it'd be a bunch of brokeback jokes" etc, and after I saw the movie that thought didn't cross my mind once as I bought 2 HT figures.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Black mask will still never be the joker even if he's in the movie.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I don't think anyone is foolish enough to think that the villain will come anywhere close to Heath's Joker, I feel bad for anyone who does as they will surely be let down by this movie.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Well I guess we'll just have to see Deckard. It might not even be Black Mask which would make these pages of posts completely pointless and moot.

Time will tell. I'm sure it's Black Mask though, it just feels like it will be him.

:lol Yea but it wouldn't be the new Batman movie thread without thousands of pages of speculation.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

True.

I'm looking forward to the day when boards and sites crash when the first trailer pops up online.

Good times.

I have all the faith in the world it'll be great film despite the choice of villain whoever it/they winds up being. Even have high hopes that it'll break the 3rd act curse.

I see Gotham being an even scarier place now. Dent's dead, Batman's a cop killer, countless masses have packed up and fled after all the choas caused by the Joker, and now the Joker has his own "copycats" (similar to Bats in TDK but not neccessarily clown related) that were inspired by his reign of terror.

Would actually be really interesting if there were two villains that, rather than go in together as done countless times before, instead act against eachother with the city caught in the middle.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

And that's why Black Mask is ideal. He is a sadistic bastard looking only to augment his powerbase. I think he's the ultimate mobster.

Multiple villains has been my take since TDK ended. I don't think any one could serve adequately, and if it is to centralize around one of them, Black Mask would be the one capable of inspiring the necessary fear.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Yeah, I realised after I typed that that I pretty much surmised a very watered down version of War Games. :lol I could see Hush thrown in the mix there too as a masked character who winds up being someone close to Bruce in disguise. :dunno

Forgot to add its a shame about the Penguin but I kinda see why they wouldn't go with him.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

He'd make a good foil to Black Mask though. Cobblepot's ambition is driven by what power can bring him, and that makes him soft. Black Mask wants the power for its own sake, and that makes him an unstoppable monster.

It's too bad movies can't be 5 hours long. At this point, we'd already be 10 hours in and the story would be so huge that anyone could fit into it.
