Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I hope so but it's sounding like they're going to try and do away with Batman completely. Either in death, retirement or letting all of Gotham in on his identity.

Hopefully all the speculation about "the end" is just that, purely speculation. Though, even the interviews sort of lend themselves to the idea that Bruce Wayne will be cured in a sense and will wash his hands of Batman entirely.

I guarantee "The End" is just a marketing tool. They used the same theme with Harry Potter. If anything he will stop being Batman because Gotham no long needs him.

I don't believe that. Part of his problem is he can't just let it go. Hell he was going out doing Batman-like stuff as Bruce Wayne in TDK. He even used "Teh Voice" out of the suit.

From Rachel's letter to Bruce in TDK:

Yep, most people miss this entirely. If anything Bruce Wayne barely exists by the end of the TDK. The problem is that by setting Batman in a realistic world no one could or would want to be Batman forever. Everyone wants to be happy, even Bruce. Havey's line at the table proves this.

I almost feel like this film will actually be about the opposite, that Gotham may see good times, like the trailer says they're in peace time, it doesn't last, that Gotham will always need Batman.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

From Rachel's letter to Bruce in TDK:

1. He never read it. He doesn't even know that letter exists so the letter has absolutely no meaning to Bruce Wayne. As far as he's concerned, she's "still waiting for him".

2. Just because Rachel says something, doesn't mean it's true. In Begins, they use the same type of theme by making her state the "this is your mask" crap and then in most of The Dark Knight they completely abandon it. Bruce was looking to hang up the cape and cowl for some new kid on the block (I like how Dent just comes out of nowhere, not even a year later and he's automatically Gotham's hope) to take the reigns so he could be with the guy's girl. With TDKR, the 8 year gap and interviews, it appears he's going to be doing the same thing again.

It's alright I guess, it's something different but I think it would have been ten times better if they dropped the whole "remember that day you once told me about, when Gotham would no longer need Batman" nonsense and just had a full fledged obsessive Batman. A Batman so into his war on crime that he'd be weary of Harvey Dent from the get go. They hint at this when he's at the computer console "watching him closely", but they drop it as soon as Bruce meets him and looks at Dent all dreamy eyed. As soon as Batman saw Dent threatening an unarmed thug with a gun, that should have been a heads up (no pun intended) that the guy was trouble and needed to go.

Nearly every incarnation of the character is cynical of others, from the Animated series with people before they become raving psychotics to the Burton films (he immediately deducts that Penguin is a bad guy, not even giving someone that's pathetic a chance like the rest of Gotham).

Yes I agree, but by the end of the film I think that will change.

isnt TDK set 3 years after begins?

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Here's a question... how much time passed between the Rachel and Bruce at the burnt Wayne Manor scene and the scene where Batman and Gordon meet on the rooftop at the end of Batman Begins? :google

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

No - 6-12 months after Begins

'A year ago these cops and lawyers wouldn't dare cross any of you...'

and the funnier part is that little Babs Gordon is in a high chair being fed in BB but a year later in TDK is 8 years old. I can't wait until TDKR when she is 26 returning from college and Gordon's son is never mentioned at all.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Nolan better pull something spectacular out of the bag coz this has fallen down my list of must see blockbusters well behind Avengers.
