Re: The Dark Knight Rises

i'm really really excited with the potential of tom hardy as a villain, i mean, this guy is a serious badass actor.

he is a chameleon.

Trus that. :goodpost:

No way would I see 'Eames' in that pic.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight could be looked at as (of coarse) about Batman, Harvey's fall from the White Knight, and considering what happens at the end of the movie... it was a dark night.

The title "The Dark Knight" is a play on the nickname of the character but also on Gordon's last few statements.

"Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight."

Its also a play against the White Knight scenario of Dent and how the hero doesn't always wear white. Also how Batman essentially hides from public viewing in the dark.

In TDKR, I look for Nolan to return to the status quo that exists before the Joker situation only with his freaks now a part of the story.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

now that i think about it, both nolan's bat films end with a scene with gordon, and the film's title that shows up at the end acts almost like an exclamation point to gordon's comment.

see the pattern?

in the 1st film, gordon said something to batman about how he has started something, then the last shot of batman jumping off the rooftop and flying towards the camera, then the title came up: batman begins.

in the 2nd film, gordon made the dark knight comment to his son, then the last shot of batman jumping into his bike and riding away, then the title came up: the dark knight.

so... i think a prediction can be made for the last scene in film 3. it will have gordon, he will say something to/about batman, batman will do some stunt for the last shot, then followed by the exclamation point: the dark knight rises.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

The title is going to show at the end of the movie whether you like it or not. ;)

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I just hope the words "the dark knight rises" never come out of Gordon's mouth... or anybody else's. :sick

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Well, none of the other titles have, thankfully, come out directly.

No one ever says Batman Begins, and Batman wasn't directly referred to as THE Dark Knight, just a Dark Knight.

Nolan and his team are good writers, they're not going to do the lame thing many movies do of trying to force the exact word for word of the title into the dialogue, because it's rarely, if ever done, without being cheesy and so blatant you facepalm over it.

I actually thought I was going to have that reaction to the "Why So Serious?" tagline ... but it actually worked pretty well when inserted into the movie.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Well, why so serious works fine because it's a pretty common thing to say. If a title is a common phrase or word you can work it into the dialogue without being cheesy.

One of the worst cases that I've seen was Deep Blue Sea, the line to work those words in was just awful, not that the whole movie didn't have issues, but I cringed when that part was said.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I have a feeling the quote from Gordon will have a Shakespearean feeling and tone to it, along the lines of "so the dark n/knight rises" before we see the title shot.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

My prediction is the only reference to rising will be the metaphorical rising of Batman from the hell he was left in at the end of TDK.

Any closing monologue will be more along the lines of Begins and allude to that rising without blatantly stating it.

The close of TDK has set a bar though, being the conclusion of a trilogy, I hope the close of this one is as powerful. Begins was good, I really like the commen about never having to thank him and the leap off the roof, but the music and the visuals from Gordon's speech at the end of TDK was just awesome, I still get chills when that part comes up in the movie or I hit that part of the score.

he is a chameleon.

Who could he play if he were cast as the role of the next villain? I would think it would be a very physical role. And obviously he's no penguin material.

He could play anyone from the Riddle to Bane.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

s
joker is a role, just like rachel is a role. and a role just need a good actor to make it come alive. i think nolan understands this. if there's a good subplot to pursue with the joker involved while in arkham, i dont think nolan will shut it down just because heath is no longer available. story comes first before everything else.

You need to read more interviews bud. Nolan has explicitly said he would never recast the Joker. He get's choked up every time someone even brings up Heath or the role.

That was how he looked in Bronson 2 years ago. He's dropped a lot of that weight and muscle since then (just look at him in Inception).

I think Hardy is almost as adept at altering his physical appearance as Christian Bale. It'll be interesting to see his role in TDKR.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

the more i think about it the more i like 'shadow of the bat' better for the title. think about the multiple meanings it carries: it could mean the bat has cast a long shadow over gotham(scaring off the criminals, changing the rules of the game, carving out his legacy in gotham), it could also mean the cops and the mobs are now gunning for him, chasing after his shadow, so to speak.

then for the last scene, you could have gordon do a monologue while the bat is looking over the city from up top, the sun is rising in the horizon(will be cool to end the 3rd one at sunrise since the last two ended in the dark of night), the shadow of his cape slowly grows larger behind him, the title comes up: shadow of the bat.

cool, no?

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Nah. I dunno...i'm fine with TDKR. Batman Begins is a terrible title. But the movie was amazing. So they can call it Two Knights One Cup and i'll still see it opening night.
