Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I don't think Black Mask would be the main villian. He would be the mob villian of this film, like Falcone and Maroni were in BB and TDK.

I could see that. I guess it would make sense to escalate the mob with a leader that has a shtick also. My guess would be that organized crime would be pretty terrified to get noticed either by joker or a batman that is murdering police officers.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

They can always go a differant secret society route instead just the straight up mafia to change it up. Think Eyes Wide Shut and the orgy/masked ball scene. A bunch of Gotham's elite given a chance to join and rule the city via theyre buisness empires now that the major crime figures have toppled.

Bruce refuses to join creating a dual problem for himself and Batman. You guys are really underestimating Sionis big time. He's easily one of Bat's most twisted villains and could definately cary the villain role on his own. And yea he's not as complex looking as Killer Croc or w/e could be, he's simple because hes a man in a mask, but so is Bruce which is why its perfect. Both rich moguls, with a secret identity, one chose good, the other evil.

If we're gonna go the gangster route... how about Solomon Grundy? :monkey3

Oh, alright, I'm kidding.
It should be Superman.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Don't know if it's been mentioned but I've just read this comment on youtube. I've never read a single batman comic so I have no idea what he's talking about but some of you might find it interesting. If he's not making it up that is. :lol

The third film is apparently set on the comic 'Prey' which follows up on the coming 'Year One' that Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were set on. In Prey Sgt Max Cort hunts down Batman who is on the run from the police, Cort is then hypnotized by a doctor and then turned into the Night Scourge. Hardy is too physical to play the Riddler.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Thhat would.... fail...

Probably just another guy with his own theory. Doesn't seem like there's much potential for an epic story there, which this has got to be.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I'm not familiar with the story arc, but it doesn't sound like great movie material. Nolan seems to like bad guys being bad without feeling the need for some reason for it, which is something I love. Spider-Man movies, I'm looking at you.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Wasn't Prey an arc of Legends of the Dark Knight? I never read it, but I never heard good things about it. Not like Shaman, or Venom, or any of the other early runs.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Yes it was a LOTDK story: Here is the synopsis (Thanks Wikipedia!)

Gotham City's new psychiatrist, Hugo Strange, is obsessed with Batman. He convinces the mayor to prepare a special task force to capture Batman with Commissioner Gordon as its head. Gordon deploys the seemingly not-too-bright, overzealous Sgt. Max Cort to lead the task force. Later, it is found that Strange hates the Batman because he loves what the Batman does, becoming a creature of the night but he can't do it. He deduces the Batman's identity and plays psychologically with him by placing life-like mannequins of his parents in Wayne Manor with audio tapes. He then hypnotizes Sgt. Cort into donning a costume & becoming another vigilante, who then kidnaps the mayor's daughter. Batman rescues the mayor's daughter, while Hugo Strange is shot several times before falling into Gotham Bay. His body is never recovered.

The rumor probably comes from the fact that Total film did a story about the 11 Batman Villains For Tom Hardy, I doubt anything official is there. Max Cort was #1 but anything is possible, I remember reading it and going off of Nolan's other films its definitely up his alley.

Sgt. Max Cort
Backstory: A violent, thuggish copper from Batman: Year One follow-up Prey, Cort is placed in charge of a special task force established to hunt down the Batman. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer to start with, Max becomes a pawn in the game of crazed police psychiatrist Hugo Strange, who hypnotises him into becoming a masked vigilante in an attempt to lure the Dark Knight out of hiding. Dr. Strange has his own agenda you see, and would far rather get his hands on the Bat himself than hand him over to the authorities…

If Hardy Plays Him: He’d be great as the crooked bruiser with a badge, the sort of officer whose “punch first, ask questions later” attitude would play right into the hands of a cannier villain…

Nolan’s Cup Of Tea? Most definitely, as is the sinister Dr. Strange, and a plot that picks up where the last film left off. We’re quietly confident about this…

Essential Scene: An interrogation scene in which Cort beats a suspect to a bloody pulp, much to the dismay of the new Commissioner…

For what it's worth, the criticisms I heard had to do with the delivery, and not the story itself. Bad writing or something. I don't know because the tpb is really expensive now.

I can see that plot going places. If he can fit Catwoman in, I'll take it.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

why is everybody hung up on catwoman being in this movie?
Was it hinted somewhere that she would be?
Do we really need her?
Where's the Mike's Pants?

I think Catwoman's involvement is assumed because (1) she's reasonably realistic as Batman villains go, (2) she's a "she", and the last "she" got blowed-up, and (3) if she wasn't going to be in it, it likely would've been announced along with the "no Riddler" announcement.

"it'll hold up against a cat"

I'm not sure if the movie needs her.

But like snakedoc said...she makes sense as an addition.

Heck, I'd like it if maybe she didnt show up until the last quarter of the movie. Let batman get his head on straight and be serious as hell being a professional spook/crimefighter...then have her throw a wrench in it.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I have a feeling that even though Nolan will be done after this one, he'll close it almost setting up the next one with an end like Begins.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I would like to see Nolan's version of Catwoman; however, I don't think the movie needs her. There are plenty of women they can put in the movie. Talia could make an interesting addition and tie in to the first movie.

yeah..but thats about it. Talia has always been incredibly boring to me as a character. The only good thing that ever really came out of that was damian as of recent. Its fun that bruce wayne has a weird estranged ____ you attitude and relationship with his ex wife and exfather in law...but it's sorta stupid at the same time.

I also think that bringing her in after having no evidence of ras having a daughter when he talks about his wife being killed is a really soap opera thing to do..

like the long lost convenient family member. the cousin that looks remarkably similar except with glasses. the woman with the eyepatch and the woman with the log. :thud:

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I loved Joker in the Dark Knight but don't need to see him again. There are plenty of other villains to see.

Source Deadline.com https://www.deadline.com/2010/11/chris-nolan-lines-up-actresses-for-batfilm/

Chris Nolan is lining up actresses he'll meet for two female lead roles in The Dark Knight Rises, the third installment of the Batfranchise which Warner Bros has dated release on July 20, 2012. I'm told one of the roles is a love interest for Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne, and the other is a villain. The actresses are: Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley. Nolan is keeping the roles under wraps, just the way that he did when he drafted his Inception star Tom Hardy to come aboard to likely play a villain. Deadline broke that story October 13. I'm still not sure what the role is and I believe Hardy took the job without knowing or reading a script that's still being tweaked.
