Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Batman Begins- Adventure film

The Dark Knight- Crime Thriller

The Dark Knight Rises- War film

You think about things and categorize things much like I did when I was younger.

I have to disagree about the first one being the "Adventure" film though... it really didn't have much adventure beyond the opening. It was too slow to be 'adventure' or even 'action'. TDK is more of the 'action' film...although clearly TDKR will have even more action.

Perhaps the order is closer to:
Thriller
Action
War

My categories are slightly more different...

Action Drama
Crime Thriller
War Epic

I'm making these up :lol

I might be, I just though it was a kinda cool way to look at it. To me, BB is an adventrue film. His adventure to become batman and then finaly embracing it.

TDK always reminds me of movies like Heat but yes, it does have a lot of action in it. Very stylized realistic, not over the top action though.

TDKR is said to be a sort of war film. I can see that, just by the steps scene we've seen pics and some footage of.

It's gonna be hard for me to pick a favorite out of the three. That' not a bad thing though.

I do see them the same.

Adventure
Crime
War

all 3 wrapped up with human drama and bacon.

Mmmmm, bacon. :drool

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

*in other words any medium other than a full length Imax Feature Film is not worthy of being utilized for Nolan's created universe. :lecture

:lol

Naw...Gotham Knight set the precedent. Sure you can take it or leave it when watching BB and TDK, but nothing in it contradicts the Nolan-established continuity. I wouldn't be surprised if DC lets other creative teams get their hands on "Nolan's" Batman again.

Gotham Knight was a big disappointment for me.

I hated the different stylized animation types, if I remember correctly, I only liked one of the 'short stories'

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

If WB is gonna do animation, they should just stick to adapting comics and their traditional animation style, none of this anime crap. The Year One anitmated film was actually pretty cool. Accept for batman's horrible voice.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Just saw the trailer. Really couldn't pay too much attention to all the details. But for some reason when Bruce wakes up and you see a blurry/shaking Bane image and he seems to get scared reminds me of BB when Bruce inhales the flower hallucinogen and when he opens his eyes, he see that same type of blurry/shaking of what's around him. Also seeing these attacks all over Gotham seems to give me a feeling The Leagues of Shadows maybe behind it. Ofcourse it could just be just all be a coincidence, or my own personal hopes that Ra's is actually back other than in flashbacks.

:exactly: :exactly:

It sucked ass. :lol

Yeah, definitely wiped from Nolan continuity long ago :yess:

That's the nice thing about it. Just like the Arkham Asylum/City comics (which I think were well done), they are derivative works that are not necessary to enjoy or even understand the plot of main works. But when it's done well, this secondary stuff gives cool insight to the characters and adds to the "fleshing out" of the backstory. As long as they don't blatantly contradict the established universe it's ok (superficial stuff like "the wrong batsuit" or "the wrong batmobile" doesn't count). If you like them, great. If you don't like it, as we say in New York...fuggedaboutit.

It seems that the DC Universe Animated movie line has found its footing since the release of Gotham Knight. I'd personally prefer 2 or three feature length animated direct to video movies, each with ONE story and a consistent style rather than the anime shorts they crammed into one. For comics, I don't mind as much if the style changes with different creative teams, as long as one team works on each individual story arc from start to finish, no matter how many issues it takes to tell.
