Haha, this is almost like instant messaging. It's the nature of the medium. You want to invest in a loooong ongoing Batman series that doesn't have to reboot for decades? Find your local comic shop.
The wrath of void will soon be upon thee Nam!
And I want to be around when it cometh.
I don't think he hung up his cape for ALL of the eight year gap. Maybe at some point (even before Bane) he was injured and had to stop. Maybe the peacetime is enough that he can "retire" until the presence of Bane forces him out of retirement.
No matter how this film ends, this eight year gap provides a great opportunity for the WB/DC Comics to do "expanded universe" type stuff showing what has been happening during that gap. I'm thinking an animated mini-series or even an ongoing comic. Maybe we'll get to see this Batman (not Bale of course, but this version of the character) face our favorite rogues after all.
My TDKR prediction: Catwoman will start out as a villain, and then become an aid to Batman. Bruce Wayne/Batman will be damaged and beaten by Bane, but will be destroyed/killed by Talia Al Ghul. Lucius Fox will also be killed off. As for Alfred; not certain. Officer John Blake (JGL) will understand the importance of Batman as a symbol to Gotham. We are then left with Officer John Blake assuming the "new symbol" of Batman. Hence WB's decision to reboot the franchise after Nolan's era. Batman Beyond anyone????
Actually, he completely agrees with me there.
I think catwoman doublecrosses batman, she gives batman to Bane, and then regrets it.
Think of the potential of having the a brief glimpse of GL in a story in the Daily Planet and having Man of Steel end with either Bale's or JGL's Batman discovering Superman's secret identity at the end of the credits. Adding things like that in the movies would've garnered more interest in GL as well as had people anticipate the return of a Bale/JGL Batman as well as start to build up for a potential JLA movie where they could introduce other characters like Wonder Woman (if they didn't go a Cap route with her), Flash and Hawkman. Instead we just get wasted potential.
like they did with Batman Gotham Knight
Funny how it works for Marvel films, isn't it?
I don't want to start a Marvel/DC pissing contest, but Nolan's Batman franchise could've just as easily been DC's Iron Man in building to a JLA movie and an established DCU in film. Instead they're only proving they're completely incapable of linking anything by closing off Nolan's Batman franchise, treating the Green Lantern film as a one-shot, etc.
You just figure that out? Pretty obvious; maid at Wayner Manor, Batman/Wayne captured, we can hear her say something like you should fear him like she does... then later they're fighting side by side. Seems her story is pretty much revealed.
The real question here is: how does Bane eat or blow out candles?
It works for the Marvel films because from Iron Man 1, they intended to use it to launch a larger Avengers universe. That's why we have all of the Nick Fury cameos and Avengers/SHIELD characters popping up in each other's films.
From the beginning, Nolan intended to build a universe where Batman is the only costumed hero. He didn't want to tell a good Batman story that could also be a jump-off for a Justice League story. He intended to tell a good Batman story. Period.
To slap Superman or the Justice League onto his Batman universe as an afterthought would be forced, and probably wouldn't make much sense, where it made perfect sense for the Avengers characters because it was planned out that way from the start.
It's like the difference between slapping 3D effects on in post, and Avatar filming in 3D from the beginning. One looks great, and the other feels forced.
Thank God that didn't happen...
I think it would have ruined the Nolan Batrilogy for me.
Which was lame.
my post was a response to WurstCollector so i dont know why you didnt quote him as well,

You posted your opinion, don't get mad about it now. Just sayin'
Nolan laughs at your insecurities and control issues.
not all of it was lame, some of the shorts were cool, I liked the India one, and the scarecrow too
