The other day I was talking to a friend who has the extended edition of an unexpected journey and he said it was disappointing. Anyone have an opinion on whether or not there is enough of a difference between the theatrical versions and the extended to warrant the wait and price difference?

Both Hobbit EE's have been superior to the theatrical cuts.

My reason......"I feel a song coming on". Love "Down down down to Goblin town".

Only thing I didn't care for in AUJ EE is the young Bilbo scene. All the rest I enjoy. There is more with the other dwarfs that help them with their identities!! Which makes you say...."OK their characters"!

DOS EE - I found to be my least favourite of all LORT & Hobbit EE as far as pacing.

And it is different from all the other EE because it actually created another storyline that breaks away from the TC.

But if you are a fan of the Hobbit don't skip out on the EE they are fantastic!!

Made the steelbook purchase and watched it for the second time (first in threatres) last night. After second viewing I think I liked it much more. What I would like to see in the EE:

Slow things down

Start movie with Smaug flying over Laketown then cut into Lake Town
A few more minutes of Smaug
Radagast recruiting the …..including a scene with Beoron
More of Beoron in the battle
Conclude Dale (What happened to him)
Conclude Bard story
Conclude Elve Kings story….give the guy his necklace
Conclude the Arkenstone (Bury Thorin with Orcist and Arkenstone)
Conclude the distribution of the gold
Show more of the walk home with Elves, Beoron, etc
Funny how LOTR ending was so long and Hobbit was so quick!!
Overall I liked the coldness of the first half of the movie. Very different from the first two. Also liked how the coldness is echoed by the cold weather outside.

Dame looking forward to the EE!!

I don't know why I'm so annoyed that the Red Book journal wasn't available with the 3D version at Walmart. It's not that big a deal. :lol

And they don't have any online at all!
