No doubts about that and I'm a huge Star Wars fan.

Yup SW has been in my blood since 1979 (I am 41). OT I love but the PT I am willing to trade!! And while Im at it take the REBELS **** too!!!! I hate seeing Alladin with the forced SW Luke Skywalker theme in the background.

Or The Return of the King.

Possibly - but at least it had a compelling storyline to help you overlook some of the horrific CGI.

And it was made 15 years ago.

And technology wasn't as advanced.

And it won every Oscar under the sun.

And it didn't have Alfrid.

And it was actually.... good.

LOL Madea goes to Laketown. Spot on review.

That Honest Trailer was hilarious! I watched this the other day for the first time and was falling asleep during the middle of it. Everything just seemed off--parts that needed more time were too short, parts that needed less time were too long, and parts that didn't need to be there were frustratingly there.

My wife has watched all of the Hobbit and LOTR films with me at some point, except BotFA. I had started watching this one without her because the first two Hobbit films made her lose interest in the third. She came in the room a couple times while it was on and at one point asked if I was playing a video game.

I'll probably make myself sit through the EE when it comes out, but I'm not really looking forward to it.

I love the Honest Trailers - so funny, sadly in this case most of it is true. :( ^ I agree with your points - especially the 'parts that didn't need to be there' one. I just hope the characters who were short-changed in the theatrical version, get more screen time in the extended edition.

I'll be honest, I'm not so much sad that there's no more Middle-Earth movies as I am the way they went out. The more time that I've had to think about it, the more disappointed I am with the Hobbit trilogy.
Let me start by saying that The Battle Of The Five Armies is the only Middle-Earth movie that I only bothered to see only once in the theaters. I really liked the way AUJ kicked the trilogy off but then things started going South for me. I guess the first red flag was when I wasn't rushing out to get these on DVD the way I did with LOTR. I was getting both the theatrical and EE the day they came out back then. I did pick up both releases of AUJ, but never even bothered with DOS until the EE and have no interest in watching TBOTFA again until the EE as well.
It's funny because one of the things that I was most excited about with The Hobbit was the addition of material from the LOTR Appendicies and that turned out to be some of my main issues with the films.

Some things that bothered me (in no particular order):

- The Seige of Dol Guldur. This was one of my most anticipated scenes and when we get there it played out like a video game IMO

- Alfrid. Nuff said.

- Smaug chasing the Dwarves around. (although I did love Smaug, and the destruction of Lake town was awesome!)

- The Wereworms

- Legolas running up the falling rubble

- Too much CGI

- While I liked the look of Azog, why wasn't he killed in The Battle of Azanulbizar (as he is in the History Of Middle-Earth) and leave Bolg as the main villain?

- Azog bursting through the ice during the fight with Thorin (I mean come on, I'd expect something like that in a Friday the 13th movie)

- I thought they made Radagast too goofy

To sum it up, I really wanted the magic to be there again and it really fell short for me. These just don't have the same re-watchabilty as LOTR. We watched FOTR about a month ago and there's no comparison IMO.

Sorry to be all over the place with this, but I'm at work and keep getting sidetracked.:lol

The question I think we must ask ourselves….If the Hobbit trilogy was the only three movies and LOTR movies did not exist. How would they have been received being compared only to the movie that proceeded it?

Next thought..

Now my opinion coming from the POV that there are six movies. I really enjoyed The Hobbit trilogy. I like that the Hobbit movies have provided us fans a lighter take to Middle earth if your not in the mood for heavier, darker and serious story lines in the LOTR trilogy. Character design of Beoron would be the only thing I did not like about The Hobbit. Everything else I am cool with.

I guess we all have to except that how fast Smaug gets killed in BOTFA is the only reason we have "Smaug chasing the Dwarves around” in DOS. They were fillers for more screen time.

Anyways I am a fan and I thank PJ for creating another trilogy I can love and watch over and over and over again!!!

I was greatly disappointed in the Hobbit trilogy. There were some good elements to it, namely the performances of the actors. The story was stretched so thin it was painful. The battle of Dol Guldur was the biggest letdown. There was an opportunity to show the true power of the wizards and the elves and we got Lava lamp Galadriel. One film would have sufficed.

it is impossible to wonder how this trilogy would have been received if the original trilogy didn't exist because of all the stuff Lucas Jackson added as far as nods to the LOTR goes.
If the original trilogy didn't exist, would they have made Legolas part so big? would they have shown stuff that connects to the other movies? would they have shown Gandalf and what he was doing?
I doubt it, the Hobbit exist as it is because of the LOTR and it wouldn't exist this way if those movies were not created. You would be seeing a completely, Completely different set of movies (Probably different actors as well)

The real question for me is this, What if Peter Jackson did the Hobbit back in 2001 instead of the LOTR, would it have been well received and would they be better movies. And I do think that YES they would have been much better than what we got now, If LOTR never existed and he just started with the hobbit, the movies would have been much better.
But then if he made LOTR now it would have sucked as bad as the hobbit, So i guess in a way we are blessed that LOTR was made when it was, even if that meant having 3 horrible hobbit movies
