I liked the movies just fine. I didn't care for the book much though to be honest. And of course they don't hold a candle to LotR and I won't rewatch them nearly as much.

I still love these Hobbit movies. They just add to the lore of Middle Earth and really set up the events of LOTR wonderfully.

Can't wait for the EE and that statue looks like it may be pretty cool.

I don't mind it. Yes, the story of The Hobbit wasn't as interesting as the LOTR, but it's all part of the Middle Earth tales. I don't treat The Hobbit as a competition to LOTR or as a replacement of LOTR. I actually wish there were more stories.

The only issue I have with the Hobbit movies is “Beorn” design. I just can’t warm up to it!! Guys has hair all over but still has time to shave the upper lip??

I wish he was just a big bearded man like Haggart from Harry Potter!!

My first viewing will be the extended cut when BR hits the stores. I only saw AUJ in the theater and decided BR would be good enough for the rest. I did think DOS was a bit better.

Did anyone truly expect these to be better than LOTR?

Nope... But I thought the same quality would be there... It's funny because PJ talked about how he used the original Star Wars films as inspiration for his original LOTR films with the "used world" look and feel.

He then seemed to use the Star Wars PT as inspiration for his Hobbit films with lots of CGI and green screen. While not as bad as the PT it reminds me of it in look and feel.

You go back and watch the original LOTR much like the original SW films and they feel real and organic, even with all the FX. PT and Hobbit films feel like lifeless.

Hobbit trilogy too much filler- too much CGI and not enough good story- the LOTR trilogy dense, packed, real, full of energy and amazing filmmaking. Not sure what happened but yes the new trilogy doesn't hold a candle to the original- which i think equals SW OT as a fantasy classic

This 100% :lecture
Weta talked crap to GL on the amount of CGI he used, and how proud they were of using more traditional effects for King Kong. Then they did a 180 for The Hobbit trilogy? Stupid PJ!
