Guess I'm late.

I get that people don't like the movies and really I don't care what most here think. As for me I think they're pretty darn good. Are they as good as The Lord of the Rings? No, I don't think that at all. Never have. Then again I don't think The Hobbit book isn't nearly as good as The Lord of the Rings book. I went to all three extended editions in theaters. AUJ is still the best of the three and the one I feel the most attached too. I do think that they did a great job of making BOTFA just a bit better. DOS is a good movie but the weakest of the three films. I loved Sir Ian playing Gandalf once again through these films and the way Martin played Bilbo was simply fantastic. Smaug was as good as one could expect and I loved the sequence of his death in the final film. They have plenty of CGI but a lot of it is so well done that I have no issues with it. For me as a fan of Middle-earth and the subject material I walk away quite pleased with all six films. I wish more felt that way but that isn't the case and so it is what it is.

For me these films never felt like middle earth films.. Not the middle earth that PJ first showed us. Like I stated before

These films just never really delivered for me. I do think AUJ is pretty good. Flawed but fun.

DOS just lost it's way and was IMO more PT star Wars then LOTR. Fans kept saying you had to wait for the third film to make the 2nd one better, which to me is not a good excuse for a film being poorly written. I made fun of Beoron because he felt like a waste. A character that would have never made it to the original Films but I was told to wait until the third film and yet all that did was prove he was a waste of time. It was a clear example of a film that should have been two movies bloated into three.

Having said that.. I still find enjoyment out of the films because I do like the characters and the subject material. I don't think they will stand up to repeat viewing like the LOTR films but they will be fun to view every 3-5 years or so.

They are good fun- very entertaining but heavily flawed ..unlike the LOTR trilogy which I can't find any flaws- masterpieces. PJ couldn't possibly make these anywhere as good- the decision to stretch out to three films was the biggest mistake to me...

I've already put this one out of my mind along with the other two. I don't think I'll ever watch them again.

Agreed- too much else to watch..plus these were instantly forgetable to me- the next day after I saw each one it was outta my thoughts!

Glad you enjoyed them- I did but as I say time has not improved my opinion of them. You hit it on the head when you said the source material(the book) wasn't the best..i felt it was very light...

are the hobbit movies the worst movies ever, no
are they the worst movies Peter has made, yes. they just are, they are bloated and he added too much unnecessary things, and I think they are his most boring movies that he ever made. (besides being on the level of STAR WARS prequels with the crappy CGI) people give so much crap to Lucas for over CGI but now people give Peter a pass lol

i do think his heart wasnt in it, the fact that he tried to give the job away was the first sign of this. the acting is not as good, the fights are nowhere near as good, the CGI is terrible.
it has nothing to do with the Hobbit not being as great of a story as the LOTR, because even in the performances of the actors you can tell Peter didn't care as much.

Nicely said. I enjoyed all the films. I wish they made more! I still need to see the extended versions of the Hobbit films. The Hobbit for me was always a children's book, so I went in knowing it was going to be lighter. PJ did a great job bringing the Tolkien world to life. And I'm happy to be brought there by these films. Can't wait to do the 6 Film extended marathon!

The Hobbit for me was always a children's book, so I went in knowing it was going to be lighter. !

but the movies were not lighter, not in the slightest

the are the complete opposite

I wish they were light movies, i wish they were shorter for one, (if Peter knew the studio wanted 3 movies... why make each of them So Long, it is irrational)

they could have been the length of a regular movie, each theatrical movie needed to be shorter by at least 30 minutes (add the rest for the blu ray)

and they were not light in tone either because they decided to add all this crap that was never in the books. and they decided to make connections to LOTR that were never there. and they decided to add drama and romance that was never in the book.

if anything the movies are the complete opposite of Light and fun, they are long, bloaded and overly dramatic. like I said, the fact that the book is a light and fun kids book has nothing to do with why the movies were so terrible.

IF... Peter made movies that were silly then that would be another story. He decided to add the weight of the LOTR connection to this, that makes it as far from being a light kids movie as possible

.

I'm not going to keep beating this dead horse, but......really? :slap

Gotta admit that Hobbit was a money grab by forcing that story to fit into the LOTR trilogy style, and it worked, they made lots of money!

Whatever, I enjoyed them anyways.

Filthy little lawyers.

Fitting the Lott trilogy style? Not sure what that means. Jackson is on record as stating they went to three films because of the material that they had. He actually went to WB with the idea. Not the other way around. I do actually know this to be fact from behind the scene stuff. If you mean to fit the LOTR story well it was always going to be that way. As I've said before Tolkien himself started to do that and never did anything really with it. As far as his heart being in it or not. I also know his heart was very much in it.

Yeah, I quite enjoyed the ride. The Hobbit fills being a little lighter is something you've got to get used to. Just a different beast than LOTR and for lots that isn't something they like. To be truthful it's why while I love The Hobbit it comes second to LOTR. I have heard a rumor that WB wants to do more with Middle-earth. So we shall see. I know! I plan to do that this holiday season.

That's fine. Time hasn't killed my love for them. So it works out in the wash. I didn't as all three came out regret liking them as much as I do and don't after seeing all three EE in the theaters a couple weeks ago. It for me was a damn good ride.

Completely agree.

When you watch the extended edition extras, you get the sense that the actors thought they were going to make LOTR 2 and have all the same fun. Then it quickly becomes apparent that the effort and care going into these from Jackson just wasn't there.

Some of the dwarf costumes are just awful.

The frame rate is like a computer game.

The fighting was over the top and far too choreographed.

The humour was pathetic.

Some of the dwarves don't even look like dwarves. Just humans in oversized clothing.

Ian McKellan knew it was doomed from day one when they had to stop him crying and convince him to keep working.

PJ replaced everything with CGI.

Oh and...

Alfrid.

When someone has to cut these down into a fan edit which is then considered good, you know there's a problem. These films are the silly slapstick cousin of LOTR. They are mindless, dumb and made to grab money.

Oh and Richard Armitage was terrible.

you just reminded me of the fan edits out there. I still have not seen any (Not sure which one to choose since there are more than a few) but I agree with everything else.

Uh.........:lol

:lol

I guess what i'm trying to say is that I agree with him in that the Hobbit book is known as a different style and length than LOTR yet because of lawsuits going on behind the scenes they came up with this EE trilogy.

I'm sure it wasn't all lawsuit related though, they also wanted to benefit from the LOTR attachment, who can blame them I would've done the same thing!

I'm ok with the criticism against this movie because for me I accept some of them as being valid, but at the end of the day I still enjoyed them.

They were still thrilling and fun and yes my love for LOTR makes it easier giving the Hobbit trilogy a pass.
