I leaned over and kissed Sam about halfway through the last film. ;)

:)

Jaws, how can you destroy this film then end with:

"These are good films". :lol

Hmmmm I didn't think I destroyed this film... I have an issue with the series as a whole... I think I am also saving my final criticism for after the release of the EE version... I was really down on DOS but found the EE to really help it... I am hoping the same here.

It could also be that I WANT to like this film(s)... I love the LOTR... FOTR is in my top 10 of all time and ROTK is in my top 20. So I want to like these films... So while I complain about the flaws, my love for Middle Earth prevents me from turning away from these films..

I was also very negative about the film and did not state the positives..

I Loved Smaug's attck on Lake Town.. Very Epic.. I hope we get more in the EE
Thorin was great again.
Azog was great.
Thranduil was good... I love hating him :)
The beginning part of the battle was wonderful
I liked the were worms... Wish they were in it more
I liked that the battle was not bigger then Pallanor Fields in ROTK... That showed some great restraint on PJ's part
Christopher Lee as Sauramon is always great

I did not like
Bard disappearing halfway through the battle
Super Legolas... He really should have been limited a cameo role
The Battle went on a little long... With that it started out with a roar and ended with a whimper... Which seemed strange. At the same time I liked it but I found the Legolas/Tauriel vs Bolg to be very boring and took away from Thorin vs Azog... Which is what I really wanted to see.
Alfrid - Just too much screen time.
The confrontation of Sauron... Just seemed goofy and thrown in... Not really thought out.. felt like an after thought...

I am sure I could add more to both lists and I could do up a good vs bad of the whole series... Like I said before... Get rid of all the fan fiction and appendices and make one long 3 1/2 hour movie with a 4 hour and 15 min EE or just split into two films would have been perfect...

As it is I would give the BOTFA a 3 out of 5 star rating. But that could and probably will go up after the EE version comes out.. Hell it could go up a whole point like DOS EE version did. That went from 2.5 to 3.5.

Yikes. I never, ever want to see another Middle Earth movie in PJ's universe again. Give me a BOTFA EE and we can all call it a wrap. I'm sure other films will be made at some point years down the line but for the love of God don't have them be a part of this series.

Then you'll be happy to know that a reboot of the LOTR trilogy has just been signed with Chris Nolan set to write and direct, taking Tolkien's world into a darker, grittier, more real place. Bale has already signed on as Aragorn. Nolan is looking to sex up the series with handsome leading men. He doesn't care what women are in it or what they do.

So the eagles come (again) and end the battle. Thorin dies. So what is made with all the treasures under the mountain? Did Thranduil get his diamond? What was the importance of the diamond? What happened to his burned face in DOS? Where did Bard go? It was all Bard at the beginning of the movie and the he diss appeared at the end.

Bo is on to something.

Tell me if I'm wrong hear as to what we see towards the end of this movie:
- Eagles come
- All armies run away
- Bilbo says his goodbyes to 10 dwarves who appear to be the only ones in the mountain

Where is the arkenstone, where is it!

:lol

"Where's the last light, where is it?"

"Where's the key hole???"

"So you killed all those orcs, all those spiders...because of a lie?"

"I'm not going to kill you Smaug, but I don't have to save you." (Bard stands by and watches as Smaug falls on the black arrow and kills himself)

I would as well. I don't expect that to happen as I don't think the Tolkien Estate will be selling anything else anytime soon.

I was just asking IF they could do anything with the characters in LotR and The Hobbit since those rights have been sold. Lucas sold Star Wars and they've done cartoons and are doing another movie. Is it possible for anyone, not necessarily PJ, to use the characters out of these books for new stories? Like was mentioned before about Strider and his life before LotRs. Same with Legolas since he doesn't return to the woods......the Dwarves that were left in the mountain. ?

Only if it falls within what was sold by Tolkien years ago. That includes The Hobbit, LOTR, and only parts of the Appendicies. I'd have to double check what parts as I'm not sure. If I understand it all correctly they're out of material to do anything else.

how about that video game recently released. does that count?

Somebody should do a Scott Pilgrim style edit of the final Legolas fight with little power up bars, extra lives appearing, etc. :lol

:lol :lol

I expect it will be pretty cool. A lack of Beorn and that stupid kiss are my main two issue with this movie.

Same - they were my main gripes with the film too (plus some of the Legolas stuff toward the end of the film :rolleyes2...) but other than that I really enjoyed the film.

You can't fully judge this cut of the film you have to wait for the EE.... I know it's a BS excuse... and I am not justifying it... But it seems to be true. Why can't Orcs just shoot the eagles??? Seems like we would see one or two dead eagles... Or is it because they are a registered Endangered Species?? So the Orcs know they will be in trouble with the LAW if they kill one?? :)

By the way... What good were the Bat's?? Did they do anything besides provide Legolas with a ride and become food for the eagles??

I know... I know... EE version.....

^^ I'm sure we will have to wait for the EE. And yeah it is a BS excuse if only for the casual viewers who don't see EE. Kind of like Frodo taking the ring and not showing the ring destroyed in the TC but rather in the EE. Overall I enjoyed the movie looking very forward to owning the TC and EE on Bluray. Going through all the special features and commentaries (like I have done with the other 5 movies).

Saw this last night. For an expansion of the one book it was a good movie. However, buy changing the final scene between Bilbo and Thrain you lose a lot of explanation as to what happened to the gold and the arkenstone. Like others have said, I hope everything is explained in the EE.
