Just saw this again for the second time.

Gandalfs showdown with Sauron in Dol Gurdur still my favorite part, great display of power on both sides.
More Legolas than needed.
Dwarves fight with Smaug in Erebor was very entertaining. Still like how enamoured he was with that giant gold statue. I thought Smaug was well done overall. The best dragon since Dragonslayer, for me.

Not exact but still enjoyable. Here's to the battle royal to come :duff

I really enjoyed the stuff in Lake town prior to the dwarves setting out for the lonely mountain.

I can't help but feel disappointed with the sequel. Serious pacing issues and it really lacked a movie's typical frame.

I get that making the Hobbit into 3 movies was a good financial decision for the studio; it seriously compromised it on the artistic end.

I thought the pacing was pretty good. It didn't feel slow at all, and I actually wanted them to slow down a little bit.

I'm wondering how a 2 part movie was going to work. Espescially the 2nd one with everything that happens in the latter pages.

I've been trying to figure out what was added after they decided to go to 3 films.

my best guess is

The spying subplot in Lake-town. Some extra stuff in Dol Goldur. if You look at the trailers Azog was originally at the Gate when they attack the dwarves trying to escape. Also, the infatuation between Kili and Taurial. If you look at the production blogs, the scene with Legolas ridding after Blog looked to have her riding with him. Also, since Azog was originally supposed to be at Mirkwood, it's safe to assume the Orc hunting was different originally.

It's well funny when Gandalf says "One of niiiiiinne"

While we are on that subject, I always smile when Gandalf does timed responses to himself and others.

" We will be safe here tonight.................I Hope."

"No................It is not"

"Turn around and do not come back......................It is undoubtedly a trap"

Yeah he loves having the last word to himself:lol

Yes....he does. lol

One of the many nuanced things Ian Mckellen brought to Gandalf.

To anyone-

Didn't Ian Mckellen base his Gandalf voice off an actual recording of Tolkien doing a reading where he did a certain voice for Gandalf?
