Don't listen to evil - it's an excellent sci-fi book. There's no indication it's a 'tween' book, whatever the hell that is. There's no real romance, and it's more about the social and political structure of this dystopian future. The first book is the strongest of the three, but all of them were solid reads and well worth picking up.

They are young adults books, tweens.

No romance? What about Peeeetaaaaa and Gale? Yea, no hot and heavy stuff, but still it's there.

I agree on the first being the best and going downhill from there.

You know young adults and tweens aren't the same thing?

And yes, these got classified as young adult books, but I think that's largely because any book with a teenager as the lead ends up there these days. The writing isn't complex, but it isn't childish either.

As to romance - there's only the hint of potential through the entire first book, not even so much as a kiss. Compare that to the love triangle in Twilight, and you'll understand what I mean by 'no romance'. I don't want someone to expect the same level, and I certainly hope that rather minor angle doesn't get overplayed by the movie for the sake of the Twilight crowd.

Cool! Glad there's no Twilightesque-s__t in here. :yess:

Might pick this up when I have the chance. Thanks Michael! :1-1:

Nice story in EW this week... I am really looking forward to this. I want to see this more than Dark Knight Rises.

Just started reading the book. Had some very nice comments made about how good the story is so I jumped into getting the series.

Both People and Us magazines had full special issues on the movie this week. Can't wait personally, and I'll be reviewing the figures from NECA next week.

hold the phone ! the figures are out for this ? i thought they wernt due til april !

I was surprised to read that Lenny Kravitz is in the film! I thought that was pretty cool :D

Yep, figures have started hitting comic shops. Certainly hope they'd be out before the film!

I wish Sideshow or Hot Toys would've gotten the licence. I would've liked a nice high end collectible to add to my collection.

They need to do harry potter and lotr first but I wouldnt mind hunger games figers. I love the books so much. Just recently got the neca figures and I hope they make RUE.

I'm looking forward to the first film... I literally just finished the last book a few minutes ago. The trailer does look promising, but I could see the lovers angst getting overplayed in an attempt to bring in the viewers.

Hopefully they are able to keep the tone of the series.

According to the author herself they did a fantastic job maintaining the overall tone. I really hope this is true!

It has little to do with Battle Royale - people hear kids killing kids in a government function, they assume everything else is the same. Beyond that basic tenent, there's not a lot of similarities.

I did my review of the action figures last night - pleasantly surprised, especially with Katniss...

And if you haven't seen it, check out this dvd trailer for the Muppets that they released yesterday spoofing Hunger Games:

Aren't the Battle Royale people taking advantage of this and releasing the flims in the US on blu/dvd the same week? I was going to rent them...

Anyone going to see this in IMAX? They are running it for just one week around here on the IMAX screens, but I haven't decided if I'm going that route or not...

I was also surprised that there were no actors from the film on any of the late night talk shows this week - instead, Ferrell was on two for that goofy looking Mexican comedy. I'm assuming they'll be making the rounds next week.
