Oh, OK... I guess reading people's posts and reviews all over the net gave me the wrong impression...
Thanks for clearing it up... :lol

Praising those troops who deal with the real life horrors of IED's is one thing; lauding William James' character is something entirely different, if a reviewer were to do that, they missed the entire film.

Funny thing is though, like it or not, it provides more talking points than a certain other front-runner. :monkey3

Why do you feel the urge to bring up Avatar over and over again? :dunno
Is that supposed to validate this movie?
And I liked Hurt Locker but wouldn't call it a cinematic masterpiece... I just thought it was obvious what it is, and what it's not...

I didn't mention Avatar, I was talking about The Blind Side. :banana

And Saving Private Ryan was an amazing film that should have won Best Movie....so that's actually a great compliment.

I've just ordered this from Play.com today so I should get it in a few days and will see what all the hype is about with this one. :rock :rock

No hype, this is just a fantastic film. I'm sure you will agree.

The comparison ends though just after a) they are both great films, b) both are "war" movies.

Yea your right , but the movie wasnt as good as saving private ryan in my opnion

They are both so different - it's hard for me to compare the two - even if they are both war movies.

For me, there were completely different emotions at play - SPR was a tear jerker whereas The Hurt Locker was something different - I can't quite explain it....raw and intense for sure. SPR left me in tears - The Hurt Locker left me speechless.

Both great films - but both so very different.

What is so strong about Hurt Locker is that we have the other characters to balance out Renner's character. It should be obvious that he's damaged, but the contrast with his more well-adjusted comrades sells it completely and is what makes it such a strong film.

The film doesn't glorify war at all - it could have been a film about a police bomb disposal tech - but the war makes it that much more extreme situation and thus better drama. But it didn't have to be set there.

Ok, so you have just about redeemed yourself for that slam of Edward Scissorhands and Big Fish. :lol
