You are over-thinking it. Leia may easily be the better, more important character and a better PF as well... but she doesn't have an ounce of the "coolness" that Maul does. Just a fact of life.

What would you have gone with? I see a lot of people talking about how bad this is but other than making a totally seperate figure (robed) version like Boba there isn't a great choice.

But the exclusive item even has a different base! It's not like it corresponds to the pose or scene that Maul is in.

This was the exact same reason that I wasn't super excited about the Obi-Wan exclusive.

I know. It makes it an odd fit in to the piece but there's not a lot go with him. I wouldn't call it lame though but it isn't like Lurtz either.
