Saw it. Enjoyed it. I can't say it's the movie of the summer (Iron Man was better) but I had a great time with it and I'll see it again.

That's my take in a brief nutshell (though I do have my problems with it and will see it for the 3rd time tomorrow or Saturday).

People, we knew there was an alien element to this movie for months (years, in fact). Why all the sudden shock and disdain over what was there from the very beginning?

Also, many people apparently ignored the Lucas/Spielberg/Frank Marshall interviews during the making of the movie where they explicitly compared this to a 1950's sci-fi B-movie.

It's not just that there was an alien artifact, it's the whole sequence after the skull is returned. They could've handled that in a more subdued, "realistic" way.

Saw the movie today and thought it was great.I sat smiling through this movie the whole time and really enjoyed it.Speilberg and Lucas imo really know how to entertain an audience.I am by no means a Raiders fanboy, just a fan of the series and movies in general.I really feel bad for those who had their hopes up so high and feel disappointed or let down.It seems as though nothing could have met some of your expectations.I love all of the Raiders movies and all of the Star Wars movies, that's right all of them.None of these movies are perfect, but imo they are all a blast to watch, even repeatedly. I can't wait to see this one again and to own it. I think, and again this is my "stinking" opinion is that a lot of us 20,30,and 40 somethings have been infested with the world wide attitude(especially in the internet age) of cynicism and sarcasm and the trend that it is somehow cool to pick everything apart as to proclaim "this sux, that sux,you suck" etc. The movies will never be the same as they were when you were in your youth watching them for the first time, that's why I let all of life's worries and problems fade for two hours and channel that inner child we all have. My 6 and 9 year old really enjoyed KOTCS and it was really cool seeing their reactions to all of the great moments in this movie.I personally felt that this movie did not drag at all. I did enjoy this more than Iron Man btw.
Peace

I saw it tonight, I REALLY enjoyed it..
I didn't care much for certain, em, tarzanesque references but I can live with them I suppose, eh there always was a bit of swinging in these films ;)

Just saw it. I enjoyed it. Don't know where it will end up in my ultimate hierarchy of Indy movies, but it definitely holds up to the rest of the series in my eyes. I think it's hard to make that sort of comparison (as it was with the Star Wars prequels) since I'm a VASTLY different human being than I was in 1989; I'm much more jaded now.

I'll see it in the theater again at least once.

Saw it tonight and have to say I REALLY enjoyed it.

Now you have to understand Raiders is one of may favorite movies of all time. That being said, I HATED Last Crusade when i first saw it but came to appreciate it for what it was. I have to say that this was very much in line with Last Crusade.

It doesn't take place in a world where physics exist and it's very cartoony but in the end, no one makes movies like Lucas and Spielberg. They are doing their own thing and not abiding by anyone elses tastes for better or worse.

I loved Iron Man but it was very much of our time. It really appeals that what we consider current and cool. KOTCS is very much of Lucas and Spielberg's tastes. It is steeped in 50s Sci Fi, Motercycles, and greasers.

In my mind Raiders is it's own film and the sequels sort of take place in their own reality. Raiders will always be untouchable and in a league of it's own.

Exactly... The movie is set in the year of Sputnik, 1957. Of course aliens are going to be central as well as the Red Menace and all wrapped up in a chewy B movie sci fi format.

They could have called this "Indiana Jones and The Ruskies and Aliens B-Movie" and some folks would still act surprised at what the movie is. :lol

Saw it and enjoyed it, wasnt the best of the series by far but was a solid movie. IMO

I'm with this guy...

...And I'm with both you guys. I think they reached 'the formula' with TLC, and this film was closest to that in feel IMO, with the silly lines and over-the-top goofiness, but that's about what I was expecting.

I actually wasn't as put-off by the gophers/tarzan/aliens etc. as some. Ultimately, this is a B-Movie with an A budget. The 50's was sci-fi while the 30's were adventure serials. I get that too, and the KOTCS is a marriage of both.

Some of it worked, some of it didn't. Ultimately though, we got INDIANA freakin' JONES back on the big-screen in a rollicking summer popcorn adventure, throwin' haymakers and swingin' the whip like it was going out of style. Honestly, could we ask for anything more than that? Maybe. But we'd never get another RAIDERS.

That was a B-movie style adventure serial that was so well written/made/acted that it became an OSCAR contender. We know the sequels are NOT of that calibre. And I like all the sequels in their own way with some bits and pieces I don't like, but they're all still quite enjoyable in their own ways. Just not as 'classic' and 'perfect' as RAIDERS.

And that's my .02¢

^^^ Wise words my friend :)

As I've stated elsewhere, I LOVED this film. Seriously. I expected Aliens and the like before going in. Was it as good as Raiders? No. But then what is? I'd put this second in my list, with TLC a close third (Temple's still a little... weird to me).

Right now I'd rank it third with TLC second to Raiders. It may end up moving up in the ranks to second tho, but I can't really say without seeing it at least twice. The others hold up so well to multiple viewings that I have to see this at least twice to know for sure.

I just really loved how he reconciled with his dad in 3, and then, over the years, turned into his dad.

Saw Indy 4 again for the second time last night, with a larger crowd and more friends, and we laughed and enjoyed it. I did a LOT more than the first time. My buddy Brian and I kept saying "We're seeing this!" and doing high fives and just plain enjoying it. I am not sure why, but I loved it second go round. I guess that once the new is worn off of it, the movie delivers on it's own merits. Do go see it, anyone that hasn't yet. DO NOT MISS AN INDY AT THE THEATRE! I mean, damn! Don't wait for this on DVD....
Indy's on the big screen...again....at last! GO! :rock

Indy movies age well.

As much as parts of Crystal Skull bug me, I ahve to remember I did NOT like Last Crusade when I first saw it. I didn't like waiting 15 minutes to see Harrison Ford, the whole Venice sequence felt like a Bond rip and the threat was never very palpable. 19 years later I love it. I'm sure the more I see Crystal Skull, the more I'll like it.
