Pixar/Disney 2D animated life support, wut?

What am I not understanding because their animated movies are making billions and have pretty much cornered the cinematic animated market!

Frozen (as will Frozen 2)
Zootopia
Finding Nemo
Finding Dory
Lion King
The Incredibles
Inside Out

so on and so forth.

Although Universal is probably freaking out with the break out success of The Secret Life of Pets.

Explain yourself.

I don't think they keep a 2d staff at all anymore. It's unfortunate. They gave it a shot with Princess & the Frog. It's beautiful, but just-okay story-wise.

I believe 2D animation will come back but they need the perfect storm of script/songs/art ala Little Mermaid. I honestly think Tangled could have got the ball rolling again but I think they were still smarting from Froggy. And now that Frozen is a phenomenon I don't think they'll be risking it anytime soon.

Yup - I think the day will come where it's not so one-sided in the US. But for now nobody's willing top take a chance. I figure when a 2D does big money they will go through a "retro-2D" stage and then realize if they make good stories and choose the format accordingly, either one will be successful.

And I predict that gamechanging movie will be......Land Before Time Part 108.

well the animation was great obviously. To tell you the truth I saw it TWICE and i cant really remember the whole plot. I remember the basic stuff but cant even remember what the bad guy wanted or what happens in between.
I remember the silly white girl and remember the gator, but that movie is not as memorable as the other ones.

There was a white girl? I don't remember any white characters. I think I remember the gator, but there have been other animated movies with gators I might be confusing it with. I remember the lightning bug(s) and the voodoo guy, and the girl had a family, and I think they had a restaurant? Well, got a couple years before my little princess wants to watch it non stop so I guess it's a good thing I don't remember much.

Princess & The Frog was the last of Disney 2D. It was marketed as such.

I think Ralph Bakshi just finished a long shelved 2D project. Last Days of Coney Island?
