It's the same box with the graphics band around it.

Yes I saw that. Unfortunate.
For whatever reason, Disney Lucasfilm is determined to homogenize Star Wars so that everything appears the same. No mention of The Mandalorian on the box or the stand nameplate. Bizarre and bland choice. Oh well.

The figure fares better in that video review. It actually looks pretty cool. Since it will be months before it gets anywhere close to shipping to me, I look forward more looks at it in here and elsewhere...

I think its unreasonable to expect the figures would have randomized or multiple variations of weathering. Has there ever been an example of them doing that? Typically when there is weathering (like on Iron Man), it has always been pretty identical placement.

These people are just looking to bash the figure so they are dishonest in pretenting hot toys somehow promised randomized weathering. I was never interested in this figure but I don't see any reason for the sudden bashing except herd mentality.

The idea of the weathering being the same for all of these as a complaint makes no sense to me at all. Talk about going out of your way to find something to complain about. I have owned multiples of a number of troopers like the Shoretrooper and Patrol Trooper (plus multiples of some of the die-cast Iron Man figures) and pretty much every single mark of weathering is identical with slight variations of being applied a little darker or lighter.

Exactly. The criticism is so dishonest and ridiculous those people should be embarrassed. Some sheeple have no shame and will follow the herd.

In the case of Shills vs. Sheeple, the judgement reached was that the Hot Toys figure in question never looked very good to begin with.

Case dismissed.

I feel embarrassed for you. Does that count?

People are voicing their criticism and/or praise for this figure, which they are more than welcome to do. It's how these forums like this work.

So although the focus was all over the place in the video, I really think the weathering look better in person than on photos.

Like someone mentioned if you have two (which is the only potential reason to complain about same weathering) just swap out the shoulder & forearm armour from left to right to mix them up. Problem solved.

Here's the video link, as no one seemed to be assed to copy it for others. :lol

While not a perfect solution, it should be easy to do and it would vary the weathering a bit at least.

Yep. It would be interesting to see how many people are actually ordering multiples of this where the weathering could potentially be annoying as the same.

In any case, for me the weathering from the initial prototype pics was always pretty average and blotchy. But as I mentioned before I think it should be able to be toned down with a lighter grey applied with a sponge here and there around the blotches.

That said, the video review shows it may not be as bad as the photos have made it look.

Another possible case of in hand experience different to bloggers pics.

You're far braver than I am. Looking forward to seeing pictures of additional weathering if you go that route though.

I didn't personally inspect all the troopers in the show frame by frame(And i expect there might be members here who did), but when i saw the announcement for this, the weathering seemed so severe based on the armour which was in the show(Which, granted, was heavily weathered), it doesn't seem like HT based this on one specific trooper but, instead, just made one heavily weathered example themselves.
That's not a criticism by me, only an observation. My own comments about it, are merely centred around those of us who might army build(I am not one of them, but there are those here who do).
And i will point out that the remarks i made in a previous post were also just observations.
I never intended to get this figure, so my opinions on this matter were merely opinions.
I did(And indeed, still do) think that opinions, even if they differ from my own are still valid. Many a time have i followed a Hot Toys figure thread here on the forum, enjoying seeing people receive a figure they have waited a year or more on, in absolute delight at how great their new figure is, regardless of whether i liked the source matter myself. And also, regardless of whether i was going to buy the figure or not.
To regard fellow forum members as "sheeple" does all of us an injustice, i feel.
It's true that many members here can afford to buy loads of HT figures, and at the other end of the scale, there are those of us who cannot right now. I used to be in the former category, but Covid19 has relegated me to the latter category right now. But that doesn't mean those of us who express a negative opinion are doing it *because* we can't afford every figure(There may be some, as has been noted before, who only rubbish a figure because they can't afford it, in an attempt to persuade themselves the figure was garbage anyway), or indeed, that we are jumping on a negativity bandwagon to belong to one camp or another.
I have often read comments on here where someone says: "If you aren't getting this figure, you have no right to foist your opinion on us", and that's just rubbish. We all have a right to express an opinion. The reverse is also true. Everyone on here has to the right to completely ignore the opinions of others. You may even find there are certain people you always ignore, because of a previous argument. And that's fair enough. But don't accuse everyone who criticises a figure as having an agenda. Some might. But not all of us.

I have seen this kind of comment often. People shouldn't have to worry that merely criticising something means they have to feel shame.
If you don't like someone's comments that's fine, but there is something a bit meta about someone taking offence at someone else's offence...
I'm not having a go at you, and please don't take this as criticism.
Just saying that you have your opinion, but please don't take criticism of a figure as an attack on you. It's only criticism of the figure. Regardless of whether you like the figure or not.

Indeed.

But we all know Malgus' modus operandi. He looks down his nose on most here, like some snooty headmaster desperately looking for somebody to cane.

He often shills so hard I wonder what he gets out of it. And when people dissent, as they have every right to do at these price points, it's a little ripe to claim they're just "sheeple" jumping on a hate wagon.

I didn't like the look of the figure when it was a prototype, so didn't have any intention of buying him either. The production figure hasn't changed my mind.

When a lot of people like a particular figure, does that made them "sheeple" as well, I wonder? The mind boggles. Well, not really, because after a decade here you get to know how some members play this game.

If the forum had a motto, it ought to be buy what you want, buy what makes you happy; give honest, unbiased opinions on a figure by figure basis.

I follow quite a few threads too for figures I'm not getting, just because they're of peripheral interest, or an indication what direction a particular company is heading.

One that comes to mind right now is the HT Kenner inspired Boba Fett. I decided not to get it early on because it doesn't fill my criteria - in that it's intentionally more toy like. Yet the figure looks so good it's really tempting. I can see why people are getting excited.

Side by side with the Holiday Special Boba in a video, the HT 'Kenner' looked more appealing. (However, whether by design or chance, the Holiday Special Boba will pair well with the Heavy Mandalorian. So I'm glad I went for that one when I did).

An interesting topic you brought up here. I never had any real attachment to the Holiday Special and I always thought Fett looked kinda silly so I pretty easily gave that figure a pass. I had multiple opportunities to buy it for less than retail too. But now after seeing it beside the new HT Kenner figure I kinda wish I had bought it to be honest. Like the Kenner figure the Holiday Special Fett is a cool reminder/easter egg of what the franchise once was decades ago.

He's an interesting, colourful figure to look at, but so far he hasn't had a proper home in the collection. A bit like TLJ hermit Luke - great looking figure, but an oddball.

I think he'll fit into The Mandalorian collection though as a clan member:

Yes, that?s a really good idea

Personally I'm only up for movie or Disney+ series figures. But each to their own.

I guess I'm in Filoni's camp and able to makes jokes at Faverau and buyers of the concept Hot Toys figures for their love of that god awful Holiday special :lol

This'll be my pairing you Holiday Special freaks :lol :nana:

:lol

I guess that'll work too. :wink1:

I'm not sure there's anyone on the planet that "loves" the Holiday Special. It's one of those absurd things you can't believe is actually real, like William Shatner singing...

It's only significant for the early appearance of Boba Fett, and its new claim to fame being referenced in The Mandalorian. I've been waiting for a time when the figure would fit into the collection, so I think Paz Vizsla will help him blend in. As William Shatner 'sang', it's been a long, long time! :lol
