[...]

In the latest episode I'm pretty sure I saw both styles -- the tweaked ANH 'stunt' which is now the Mandalorian 'hero' bucket, and the Disney re-design for RO and Solo which is apparently the Mandalorian 'stunt' bucket now.

I think the intention with the RO helmet was to make the helmet more "real" for close-ups - like for example replacing the blue-stripes "vent" stickers on the jawline tubes with actual sculpted vents and making the helmets symmetrical. They look fine and aren't hugely different at a distance but I think the RO-style redo on the eye/goggles made the whole look less threatening and a bit more "cute."

As soon as I saw the helmets in the first Mando teaser I thought I must have seen wrong due to the low lighting. It's so cool that they returned the helmets back to the OT look - it shows a serious real eye for detail - and so funny that they trashed the "Disney OT helmets" on the pikes and in the sand.:lol

The Hollywood development term is "p*ss on it to make it your own.":lecture

Well the first episode and third, seems to show stormtrooper helmets which had MODULAR construction.

The goggle and faceplate appear as two separate pieces creating that hollow cheek-nose-hollow cheek interweave of the face that?s been highlighted here on the figure by ?dirt.?

I was hoping they?d use a new mold for the helmet that does appear to be mor ANH which is likely what they used as a base vs this obviously rogue one figure in its entirety.

At first I thought it was just “dirt” detailing, but the goggles really appear to be a separate thinner piece

And interlock at the nose

It would make sense why Rey would’ve had goggles from a stormtrooper helmet made out of plastisteel that looks like it was a separately constructed piece. And it would make sense design-wise that would create that unique shape in the face that’s actually practical

What seems to have escaped many, including HT, is that for Mando they actually created a new stormtrooper helmet that is closer to the original ANH helmets than the "new Disney OT" stormtrooper helmet that was created for Rogue One.

It's hard to say given the limited screencaps available so far, but it possibly appears to be a rework of the RO helmet (as opposed to simply using an OT replica helmet) where details like the the goggle shape have been sharpened/reworked, wider/prominent "teeth" and the jawline "vent slots" redone into a more OT look.

I noticed it in the trailer but I still haven't seen Mando in full resolution (just one youtube reviewer screens) so wasn't 100% sure.

HT is basically reissuing their RO stormie (which isn't even all that accurate to how the helmets look in RO anyway) which is incorrect for the stormies in the Mando room shootout scene.

To add to confusion, the RO style helmet DOES actually appear in Mando - but they are the "junk" background helmets (like on the pikes and buried in the sand) - which I assume was a deliberate "FU" to the revised Disney version. There's no other reason why they wouldn't have just simply made a half dozen more of the unique/new Mando style helmets. It obviously could be budget/time/availability, but we're probably only talking a few hundred bucks each.

Here is OT, new Mando style, RO and background "RO style" Mando helmets:

Just askin' coz only ever been a mild SW fan - but way out on the outer rim w. the lawless frontier vibe, wouldn't there be a mash-up of helmets/gear anyway? Ships? It sounds like this "period of disarray" ended up with kind've of a Road Warrior thing. Just tattered remains of what was - even Mando's ship is pre-Empire.

And of course you cannot upgrade whole Army at once or in short period of time anyway so i'm perfectly ok with RO/ANH helmets/armors laying around in post-ROTJ era. I wouldn't be against clone wars equipment in Empire services either.

I was hoping for a two pack with a bit of a price break. Definitely getting one but I don?t know about the other and with the Beskar version of Mando leaking in, I?m waiting on ordering even this until that goes up.

Original suits are garbage. Not suitable for modern film making. Also - TOYS. New design = new toy = new interest = money.
How is this suit garbage? It's iconic. This is mine btw.

Not visuals. Suits. Low cost props glued together in any way it holds together.

The change doesn't really make sense in-universe anyway. RO takes place the same week as ANH, yet the RO style helmet is never seen in the entire OT. So trying to make sense of it in-universe is impossible.

They explain the death troopers as an elite unit that was ended with Krennic, but the stormie helmets are really supposed to be a "you're not supposed to notice the differences" type thing.

It was intended to subtly make the details on the stormie helmet appear more real/practical up-close with higher resolution cameras - I don't think it was intended as a design change of the stormie helmet, even though they ended up looking (at least to me) quite distinct from the ANH style.

Not that I don't like the RO style, though I'm not a fan of the changes they made to the stormie armor design (to make stunts more easily achieved.)

This talk reminds me...must have been 2011 before I really knew the differences between buckets, if at all.

Single price isn't bad, but I definitely would have loved a two pack for slightly less than $400 that included different weathering.

I think for me it was more like 2018. :lol

This is what I remember based on this phase of my collecting (relapse-? :lol) starting roughly then.

A distant memory...of a time when I was free...:rotfl

I'm only half-joking. Accurate character/costume representations is what makes this hobby fun, but it can be burdensome at times. There are things I just let go, others not so much.

You sure it?s not? It?s the same color now. I did notice that it seems to have damage to it. Maybe HT hasn?t gotten the full armor completed but showed this as a tease.
As of this figure. I like it. Just earlier I was wanting a beat up version like this. I?ll likely pick one up.

Yeah, currently in the show his armor is exactly like in that promotional photo.

Yeah I caught a way better glimpse of it tonight. I always wondered why it looked damaged from the start. Basically painted match. Mando must care about style lol
