Ah, ok. I didn?t put two and two together. The sarlaac that the dragon killed was the one Fett was in. That works so much better than Fett just getting out on his own. I can buy into that.
I don't think the Krayt killed just one Sarlacc. It's lair was said to be an abandoned Sarlacc Pit but that cave obviously wasn't the one that Fett fell into. I think it was a different Sarlacc but it allowed us to indirectly learn how Fett escaped the one he was in without being digested for a thousand years. Unless I'm not connecting the dots properly.
Just watched it again. Man this may be my favorite episode yet and part of what's great about it is that even though it ends with a cliffhanger it really is an extremely satisfying self-contained episode. A few thoughts:
1. I didn't notice the first time around that Favreau himself directed this episode. Hell yeah give him a freaking movie or convince him to helm as many of these episodes as possible.
2. The Jeepers Creepers bartender shouting "They're monsters!" may be the new funniest moment in all of Star Wars, lol.
3. I can't believe that we have a weekly Star Wars show with better visuals than six of the nine Saga films.
4. Yep jye that Lawrence of Arabia music during the Bantha caravan was absolutely epic.
5. Cobb is just a tremendously likable character. Great charisma, off-beat swagger, and comedic timing. Watching him lose his temper over a *Tusken Raider refusing to sit down* was just another moment so awesomely bizarre I couldn't help but laugh out loud.
His "Unforgiven" moment in the bar with the mining goons was great and the fact that he grabbed his gun and helmet to take on the Krayt *by himself* with or without Mando makes him an instant top shelf badass no matter how dopey he sometimes looked in the suit. Plus he didn't scream like a girl when someone turned his jetpack on by surprise, lol. I definitely want him on his pod racer bike in 1:6 scale.
6. I really like that this episode re-established post-"Baby Yoda Mania" that this show is called "The Mandalorian."
7. I liked the seeming nods to 1981's Dragonslayer. Mando using himself as bait like the wizard but then remotely detonating the creature after the monster took the bait like the apprentice. Then leaving a gory rib cage corpse for everyone to celebrate over.
8. Mando flying out of the Krayt's mouth after being swallowed was a great stand-in for what so many of us probably pictured when we imagined how Fett might have escaped way back when the EU first declared that he survived. So it was awesome to see a version of that play out on screen. So epic.
9. The 4K picture was fantastic, even via streaming. Several scenes almost looked HFR as a result.
When this series has run it's course I won't be the least bit surprised if this episode is one of the ones I revisit the most.
