Exactly. Whether people like it or not the ST is now canon, so planting a few seeds in this show makes perfect sense. I mean seriously, why do people think Gideon and company are after Baby Yoda's blood? It's not for Dark Troopers - their development is separate and distinct.

/\THIS/\

Aside from actual good characters and decent character development the main things the ST needs are world building, explanations, LOGIC.

It went from ?Cool, Empire is done for, Sith are gone, Galaxy can finally at peace? to ?Sike, you really thought. Enjoy another space fascist regime that has come out of nowhere with seemingly infinite resources. Also Palpatine is still alive and Anakin did not destroy the Sith, enjoy Rey.?

Some things they?ll never be able to fix for those movies, but anything that adds some reasoning and backstory to them is fine by me.

Great post.

I guess the countless articles talking about Dark Troopers are all wrong.

OK, I went and read a few of those articles. I may have misunderstood the makeup of the DT's - I thought they were 100% droids that were beefed up and heavily armed. So you think they're adapting "Force-sensitive" Dark Troopers from video games? I can't profess to being familiar with them. So are they Storm Troopers or Clones that are juiced up with Jedi blood and then dropped in their shiny black armor? If so I shouldn't discount the possibility, although prior to seeing the suits lined up those sure looked like Snoke-In-A-Jar wannabes floating in those tanks. :lol

I could see them going this Dark Trooper route and leaving the audience to connect the dots to Snoke/Palpatine. That way they're still tying to the ST, but not in an overt way.

That would be best. Palps' return in TROS still counts as a twist and someone new to the series shouldn't have that spoiled when they watch the OT and then The Mandalorian. But seeing some semblance of an explanation as to why the FO rose from the ashes of the Empire *would* be a good thing since it was so woefully explained in the ST itself.

I'd absolutely love to hear someone make an off-hand reference to "Chancellor Organa" though. That would nicely pay lip service to both George's original intentions for Leia pre-ROTJ *and* his own recently planned ST. Then they can just say that she becomes a general in the Resistance long after her term of leadership is up.

Clone Wars wasnt killed by the Prequels, it enhanced those movies and made them better for many people. I dont see why the same cant be done for the Sequels.

We could drag all this out again but why? All the backlash is well documented by now. The ST is in short unsalvageable. If they try to use this show to legitimize the ST then shame on them, all the goodwill this show has built up will have been lost. I'll mentally create an endpoint and bail out once again. This time for good.

Who said anything about legitimizing it? The ST is in short canon but it's also what, at least a couple of decades after when Mando is set? No one is expecting them to fill in all of the ST's unanswered questions. But as Khev said, demonstrating how the First Order might have risen from the ashes of the Empire isn't unreasonable. Heck, Palpatine's death and the destruction of Death Star II didn't instantly eradicate the Empire's military infrastructure. There probably were still plenty of guys like Moff Gideon spread about the galaxy who were accustomed to wielding a great deal of power and weren't going to just happily relinquish it. Showing the lengths that they'd go to in order to retain/regain said power seems logical.

But this is quite clearly the early days of the First Order. The Imperial woman at the end even talks about the ?new era?.

Its obvious they are trying to either create a clones vessel for Palpatines essence or its early development of Snoke.

The pilot talks about things happening in the Outer Rim that the Core Worlds wont take seriously, exactly what cause the fall of the New Republic.

Exactly.. If not for TCW series the PT would be complete garbage.. The series helped fill in some much needed character moments.

If Mando helps flesh out some of the story elements of the ST then that will enhance my enjoyment of those films also.

I dont know if the show is going 100% prequel to the ST but it has planted the seeds of what is to come.

ST haters can cry in their pillows but it is what i is. ST is going nowhere.

Hell the Lucasfilm intro for the Mando show has nothing but OT and ST faces. If they were trying to run form that I think they would show nothing but OT or OT and PT faces.

I wish the season was 12 episodes long, it's going to be over too quick. But really looking forward to what remains. So now that we are halfway, let's rate the episodes thus far...

1) Episode one
2) Episode four
3) Episode three
4) Episode two

Almost my pick

1 and 4 tied
3
2

But all from good to great nothing bad whatsoever so far.

Episode 3 and 4 for me
Then 1

I hardly remember what happened in the 3rd one other then snow spiders.

Yep and they just released a brand new Holiday Special that spends most of its run time intertwining events and characters from all three trilogies. The 9 part "Skywalker Saga" is here to stay.

SW Theory guy thinks one of the clones experiments was Snoke. Claims you could hear Snokes theme... I would not know what that theme is personally lol...

He also brightens up the picture and compares the clone to Snoke.. Sure looks like Snoke and if they indeed play a Snoke theme... Well that about sums it all up. ST is for now a part of the Mando series. Snoke Stuff is at the 4:08 time mark.

He also thinks much of this is showing the roots of the First Order.. Points out another ST type Easter egg later in the video but that one is more of a stretch.

ST could still easily be retconned. But if they double down on it they will lose a high percentage of their paying customers. That much has been made clear to them. See the state of ST merchandise for reference. At a time where Disney needs money more than ever, pushing ST stuff into The Mandalorian would not be wise. I think Favreau knows better, we will see.

Dunno if I would bail out but a big attraction for me is the show being its own thing. Its background is SW but new characters, planets, focus. Something more like Rebels that way. Too much rehash and it will just feel tired to me. Like I would've preferred the introduction of a new remnant Jedi or even Ezra Bridger making a live action appearance than Ahsoka. Again. This is the third time around for this character in a series.

Personally hope since Giancarlo had said early on something about the audience not knowing whether he was good or bad, that ultimately he's maybe playing the Empire, not just another cog in that wheel. That he plans to grab power and end up on top. Which would make having the Darksaber pretty useful.

He is not alone who thinks that, my two cents https://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=187215&p=10394416&viewfull=1#post10394416

People said the same about the Prequels though, now people aren't as hard on them as they used to be, especially Revenge of the Sith. It's still like 25 years until The Force Awakens, so it's not going to just turn into That Sequel Show. They are just planting seeds.

I hate the ST just as much as the next person, by the way.
